Post-IPL, soaps back on top of TRP charts
4 Jun 2008, 0246 hrs IST,Himanshi Dhawan,TNN

NEW DELHI: From reigning queens to poor country cousins and back again. This appears to be the fate of the saas-bahu soaps, thanks to IPL. With the cricket fever now coming down, the mainstay of television viewers is back in action.

Polls suggest that popular serials that attracted above average TRPs had to bite the dust for the past 44 days. But with the IPL over, viewer loyalty is back.

For instance, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi , that had a TRP of 4.4 during IPL, bounced back to 5.4 on Monday, a day after the cricket final.

Similarly, Bidaai , that had dropped to 4.6, has now become a frontrunner at 5.4. A look at the TRPs of the top 20 soaps in the entertainment category showed that soaps had taken a severe beating as night after night families tuned in to cricket. IPL enjoyed a TRP of 6 or 7 even as serials floundered between 3 and 4.

Figures provided by aMap show that TRPs took a dramatic turn, comparable to a twist in the tale of any of the family sagas, on Monday. Kyunki ...', Bidaai , Kasturi , Kis Desh Mein Hai Meraa Dil and Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki are now the top five serials as of Monday.

Incidentally, Shah Rukh Khan has lost in more ways than one this IPL season. Not only did the Kolkata Knight Riders have to face defeat in the preliminary rounds itself but the much hyped Kya Aap Panchvi Pass Se Tez Hain? , launched on April 25, has been a disaster.

While it mustered a TRP of 4 on the first day, thanks to the persistent advertising and star power, the show fell by the wayside with ratings dropping steadily. It had a TRP of 1.2 on April 30, according to aMap.

Hang on a sec! They used this:

http://audiencemap.com/yesterday.htm

For Monday, according to AMap....Dulhan was No.6! BUT I have no doubt that TAM will show Dulhan at No.3 next week.

If it was No.3 during IPL why would it go down after its over?! 😕

Its definately beating, Kis desh mein, KGGK and Kasturi 😊

Haha are u kidding me!! 😆 😆
Kasturi has the most horrible storyline rite now!! 😆 😆 I stopped watching it!! 😆
KGGK as we all know will hopefully end this August coz it has been getting the lowest TRPs for Star Plus in the past 2-5 weeks! That leaves Kish Desh Mein.. That show started off badly, but its picking up although the magic is still missing! The TRPs might most definitely remain high coz it replaced KZK which automatically gave it a huge audience, the loyal viewers of KZK stuck to the show, some new viewers also came in and some of Bidaai's viewers also crossed over to it! 😉 Star's brilliant strategy of building one block at a time and extending that block has got it where it is where it started from 8 years ago! Zee although had managed to gain high TRPs and come second to Star, with Kasamh Se and Saat Phere with BMTD! Although BMTD started off as an underdog today it is a forerunner of the latter 2 shows! And over time it will most definitely pick up pace with the viewers provided the production house doesnt dissapoint us by giving us useless scenes or thinking of replacing SD! Coz if they intend of doing so, I would say its pack up time for it! 😳
