Recap: Sagar felt jealous and confused about Anand and Vidya's relationship and left Vidya at around nine at night without saying anything to her..
Part Five
Vidya sat at the edge of the bed totally confused. She was at a loss. What happened to him all of a sudden? All day he was fine. She remembered his pranks and his laughter - didn't leave her for one second! Specially in the morning when she was cooking lunch, he wanted to help. He went to the extent to giving a day off to the maid. He said most sweetly, banda hazeer hain app ke liye, queen of my heart, --- ajj app ke har kaam mein mai app ki madad karunga!!
They had so much fun. She blushed remembering what she did this morning. Saagar wanted to help her badly, but he was actually making a mess all over. So she asked him cut sabji and some onions. She was making dough for roti, her hands were white with flour. His eyes started tearing up when he started chopping the onions.
Seeing tears in his eyes, something happened to Vidya. She went close, stepped up on her toes and kissed his eyes to wipe the tears off as she couldn't use her flour coated hands! Saagar was so surprised that he started blushing. His dimpled smile took Vidya's breath away. The happiness in his eyes was truly priceless. He carried her, made her sit on the counter top and kissed her. He hugged her so tight that they could feel each other's heart beats.
Unfortunately they had to come out of the magical reverie as the chicken curry which was on the stove got half burnt. The strong smell actually brought them back to reality! Vidya hurried and turned the burner off. Seeing her disappointed face, Saagar said he loves half brunt stuff--they are crunchier and taste way better. She started laughing seeing Saagar as his face and hair are all white from the flour she had in her hands. It was such a good moment!
In her room, there was no noise, only the ticking sound of the clock gave her company. She gazed at her palms, they were clean but she searched for traces of flour! She smiled to herself. Where is he? Kaha chale gaye? Achanak kya hua? Her mind started drifting again--went back to memory lane.
Since the chicken got burnt, she took extra care to make chana. Asked Saagar to wash the dishes from breakfast. Saagar washed all the dishes talking non stop about his life in the US. He had to do everything by himself. Lautne ke baad he has become lazy because of Maa, Di and Vidya. He was proud of his cooking skills too. Main tumse kuch kum nahi Vidya, I can cook you know! He finished doing the dishes. The dal was almost done she was adding salt after tasting it, he came and hugged her from behind and kissed her neck and whispered into her ears, main ne kitna kaam kiya ajj, mera inaam dedo abhi..he made her turn around and softly kissed her. Both were smiling and hoping this moment would never end. But Vidya was worried about the chana. She turned around, poured a little salt in the curry, garnished with coriander leaves and green chili, and turned off the burner. She told Saagar to go have his bath and then they will have lunch together.
When they sat down to eat Vidya realized that she added salt twice to chana dal and it became soooo bitter. She could not eat it. Her eyes were tearing up. She is such a good cook and when she wanted to make things special for the most special person in her life, everything got ruined. But to her amaze, she found Saagar eating away the brunt chicken and bitter chana as if they were manna and salwa from heaven! He was full of praises, this is the best Vidya ever cooked and this only happened because he helped her. It was all his touch and so on! All Vidya wanted to do then cuddle him and hold him tight.
The clock strikes 12! The bells brought Vidya back from the memory lane. Its twelve, where is he? He didn't eat anything since lunch. She wanted to make up for lunch and was so busy with cooking dinner, didn't get to spend time with him. But itne baar geyi thi unki pass juice leke, harbar avoid karte rahi...She just noticed he didn't even drink the juice. Why? What did she do? She couldn't figure out anything. Only her instinct told her its probably something to do with Anand! He became quiet since their meeting. But why? Because Anand was joking about her being beautiful and not waiting for him and all? But Anand to hamesha ish tara ki majak karte rahte hein. May be he thought there was something between Anand and her!
But how could he? We were only 12 years old when we last saw each other! Even if he thought so, he could've asked me! Doesn't he trust me at all? Tears started to roll down her cheeks! Her heart was saying he is angry because he is obsessed with you, possessive about you because he loves you..But her brains continually kept on saying then why not ask me? Why his trust in my love is so fragile? Why? She felt so tired from anxiousness, from this constant tug of war between head and heart and the agony of not being able to justify his sudden rudeness. Her heart wanted to run and find him and say I am only yours, I never thought of anyone but you! Her head was saying this is such an insult to your love. He doesn't at all respect you! Leaving you like this and keeping everything bottled up inside means he doubts you, he doubts your love!
Some of the things she thought made sense to her and some didn't. Her heart longed for him but at the same time her atmasamman, her pride was badly hurt. She sat there with a heavy heart as if there was no life in her body.
Saagar walked out of the house and randomly took one street after another and he found himself in front of Ganga, in front of the mandir where Vidya found him, where he found the meaning of life! He felt a sudden urge to hold Vidya again, he remembered everything that happened yesterday*---the sufferings, the passion and peace of finding true love! He was oblivious about the surroundings. There was a steamer leaving and its whistle broke the agitation between his head and heart. He looked at his watch, it was almost quarter to twelve. He didn't realize he was walking for almost three hours. Suddenly Vidya's face took over his heart.
Poor Vidya I didn't even tell her where I was going. She must be really worried. I was acting like a total jerk all afternoon. Didn't even talk to her properly. Avoided her each time she came near me. All over nothing. If there was ever something between Anand and Vidya, that's in the past and now she loves only me.. And I am definite there was nothing between them, she was only 12 when she last saw him. What a complete fool I am. I misbehaved with my sweet wife for no reason at all. How can I even think of such stupid things! The night's dark peace actually made him agitated about his sheer stupidity, he hated himself and he longed to hug Vidya immediately and started walking back home as fast as he could.
He hears the clock striking twelve when he reached Vidya's room. An arrow of pain pierced his heart seeing Vidya sitting exactly in the same position where he left her. Her eyes were red and traces of tears were still gleaming in her cheeks. She was looking down- looked like a poignant statue without any life. It hurt so much that he couldn't bear it anymore. He went straight to her, sat on his knees and put his head on Vidya lap and embraced her waist. He constantly kept on saying I am sorry Vidya, please mujhe maaf kaar do. I am so sorry, please, please...
All the anger and pain from injured pride that was fuming inside her just vanished at his touch. She didn't even know she automatically started caressing his hair. Saagar kept going on Vidya I have no shame admitting that I was jealous about your friendship with Anand. He was a part of your childhood which I never was. He got to play with you, walk to school with you. All these thoughts made me jealous. I was even stupid to think that he loved you and may be, may be you also had feelings for him. I never knew that I was this possessive. I was hurting inside and my logic wasn't working at all. When I went out I walked around randomly and ended up near the mandir where you found me. I found myself there again. I found your love again. I realized how stupid I was. You were only 12 when you last saw him. Please forgive me. I was blinded by jealousy and love. I know I am not worthy of you, I never will be. I love you so much Vidya. Please Vidya mujhe maaf kaar do. I was rude, selfish-- I only thought about my feelings. I didn't even talk with you properly all afternoon. Would you believe me I just wanted to be near you, wanted you in my arms. Please Vidya I am sorry. Forgive your unworthy husband. I really don't deserve you, you deserve a much better man.
Vidya was smiling really listening to him, caressing his hair, his shoulder and fondling his ears. She felt happy and content, he never spoke about his love in this way…But when he uttered the last sentence, she just embraced him and said chup ho jaiye. I know you love me. I know how you felt because I had the same feeling trapped inside for a long time when Surelli lived in our house. I couldn't even tolerate your being in the same room with her. Love makes us do strange things, makes us blind. Promise me you'll never say you are not worthy of me. Never ever. I only live because of you. I love you more than myself. A relieved Saagar looked up and said sach main tum meri pari ho Vidya-my angel. I want to live every second of my life with you and with you only. He hid his face in her lap again. Both became silent after this. They kept searching for words to express their love but felt silence sometimes speaks volumes!
Vidya finally gave in. Chaliye uthiye, I haven't seen my husband's eyes for a longgggggg time! Sagaar looked up, saw Vidya smiling at him. He touched her face, and whispered I love you. Vidya kissed his forehead---wiped his tears with her palms. Sagaar got up sat beside her on the bed, hugged her tight, put this chin on her shoulder and said you were more innovative in the morning! I can cry forever if you wipe it off like that. Vidya tried to free herself. App na..chaliye khana toh thanda ho geya, wohi khana parega. Saagar was also hungry. Vidya says to him app haat much dho liziye, main khana le kar aati hu.
Vidya brings food—Saagar's favorite: kheer puri. They each feed each other. Make fun of each other. Saagar got his naughty self back, tum to kuch kha nehi rahi ho, come on, he takes a spoon heaped with kheer and takes it near Vidya's face and at the last minute drops it on her saree. Oh I am so sorry—oho—sorry Vidya, let me wipe it. Saagar took a napkin and smudged the whole kheer in Vidya's saree before Vidya could even move. Saagar made a guilty face, sorry Vidya I even made a bigger mess. Idiot kahika!
Vidya smiled, koi baat nehi. I will change soon. App khana toh khatam kariye. They again feed each other like a happy couple madly in love, smiling away. Finally when done, Saagar takes a glass of water, takes a sip and asks Vidya "Panee?" Vidya brings her face closer. Saagar became unmindful all of a sudden and pours the water in her lap. Vidya got startled and ran into the bath room. After two minutes, she calls him, suniye, please get a saree from the almari. Saagar opens the almari and said in an alarming voice, Vidya!! There is nothing in the almari. Its all empty. Did you move everything? Where is all the stuff!! Vidya standing behind the bathroom door, No, what are you saying, how can it be? Saagar said, chor to nehi aya..there is-- there is --nothing Vidya, even my wallet is gone…all your sarees, my shirts, all gone..Vidya couldn't stay there anymore, she wrapped herself in a towel and hurried out and found Saagar standing near the Almari.
She anxiously goes near him and sees everything is in its right place, she looks at him with bewilderment only to find his naughty smile brightening his face. He comes closer and carries her, she struggles with him, struggles to cover herself with the towel…he lays her down on the bed, smells and kisses her hair, and says sorry thoda sa natak kiya..Vidya tries to show fake fury with her eyes and tries to get up grabbing the towel at her chest but at the same time Saagar pulled her towards him..so she landed off balance in his arms…
The clock strikes ONE! With the constant ticking of the clock, the night deepens and so does the love of our couples for each other........
