In the Thakur household there never seemed to be a quiet moment. Today the whole household was busy making preparations for tomorrow's Holi Utsav.

Vidya had been on her feet all day, helping in the kitchen with the food and sweets. She was making Kheer, when Saagar walked in. Vidya thought it was Chinu that had come back to help her.

"Arrey Chinu Bhaiyya, zara wahaan se cheeni de denge humein." She stretched her hand backwards pointing in the general direction of the sugar canister without looking back.

Saagar looked at Vidya in surprise. He didn't know whether to correct her misconception or just hand her the sugar. He looked in the direction she was pointing, picked up a clear bottle that held sugar and placed it in her outstretched hand.

"Dhanyavaad Bhaiyya bas yeh Kheer bakhi hai banana phir uske baad aajke khaana ka intezam karna shuroo kardoongi. Theeke. Mera zara ek aur kaam kardena. Woh jo sabzi wahaan rakhi hai use dho ke katlena, pilease Bhaiyya." Vidya requested without turning to look at Saagar.

"Mujhe woh..." Saagar stopped midsentence trying to remember why he had come to the kitchen in the first place.

Vidya hastily turned around surrprised on hearing Saagar's voice, and quickly murmured an apology before averting her gaze.

Saagar stared at Vidya as he took in her disheveled appearance. Her hair was tied in a loose plait with few strands sticking out, which she reached out nervously to tuck behind her ear. Her light pink sari was tucked at her waist, and she was fiddling with the end of the pallo. Her cheeks had turned pink, beneath the stain of the flour that she sported on her cheek.

"Ji Main to..."

Interrupted by Saagar's touch, as he reached out with his hand to dust the flour from her cheeks, brushing it off lightly with his fingers, Vidya looked up to meet his eyes surprised as his gesture.

On realizing what he'd just done, Saagar's fingers curled against her cheek and he pulled his hand away.

"Tumhare chehre pe woh flour laga tha." Saagar blamed his perfectionist nature and dismissed his action.

Vidya wiped her cheeks with the back of her had self-conciously, then looked at Saagar for approval. "Ab theek hai."

Saagar nodded, and opened his mouth to say something but was interrupted by Surili who walked into the kitchen.

"Saagar, Sweetie tum yahaan? What are you doing here? You forgot humein tumhaare doston se milne jaana tha. Kal ke liye."

Saagar had planned to invite his friends over for tomorrow, whom he hadn't seen in a while due to his health.

"Sorry. I'll just go and get ready, then we will go."

As soon as Saagar left, Surili turned her attention to Vidya taking in her appearance from head to toe.

"Yeh ghar ke kaam ka role tumhe zyaada suit hota, Saagar ki patni ka nahi. Bechaari Vidya, bahut dukh ho raha hoga na, ke tumhaare pati ko tum yaad hi nahi?"

Vidya's irritation for Surili showed on her face, but politely said, "Aapko yahaan kitchen main nahi hona chahiye. Aapke naye kapde par kuch lag gaya to aapko bahut dukh hoga."

Surili's smile disappeared as she checked her clothes to make sure there was nothing on them, then left the kitchen in a huff.

Vidya just sighed, and went back to her cooking.

Thanks guys. 😳. Here's another update. Just like to mention again that the blue is for flashback. So without much further ado:

"Come on Mr. Ocean, mazaa aayega." Bharat tried pulling Saagar into the rain. "Aap pe to rang bhi nahi hai."

The entire family and some of Saagar's friends had gathered outside drenching each other in an array of colors. Even Sindoora seemed to be to having fun, as Aniket splashed her with colors. In the mess of colors no one could tell who the other was.

Saagar had chosen to stay away and watch from a far, being the only one who was not dyed from top to bottom, with the other exception being Vidya. Vidya was still inside making preparations food preparations for later in the day.

As it began to rain, the elders moved to take cover, so only Chinu, Shalu, Bharat and a few other friends of Saagar's friends were left. Bharat and Chinu decided to pull Saagar in the crowd too.

Saagar resisted saying that he didn't enjoy playing in the rain. Saagar's friends also urged him but he refused to budge.

Chinu looked disappointed then thinking of something, quickly called Shalu to his side, and told her to go get Vidya. Shalu and Bharat both went in towards the kitchen.

"Vidya tum yahaan abhi tak kya kar rahi ho. Chalo bahaar bahut fun aa raha hain."

Vidya turned to look at Shalu and smiled to see her covered in color. "Mujhe yahaan kam hai. Aap log jao."

"Please Vidya mami. Aapke bina accha nahi lagta."

"Chalo Vidya, Agar tum nahin aaogi to main tumpe rang dal doongi."

"Shalu yahaan nahi. Khaane mein rang chala jayega."

Shalu grabbed the red color from the tray lying nearby, which Vidya had used to make rangoli.

"Tum aa rahi ho ke nahi?"

"Shalu, Abhi nahi…Bharat…"

Shalu and Bharat, who had also grabbed some color, both rubbed the color on Vidya's cheeks and her pale yellow sari, before running back outwards.

Vidya quickly regained from her surprise, then took a handful of color herself, and chased after them.

"Ruko abhi dikhaati hoon…"

Bharat laughed, teasing Vidya that she would never be able to catch them, then ran outside to avoid Vidya.

"Mr. Ocean, humein Vidya mami se bachao." Bharat ran towards Saagar, as Shalu moved towards Chinu.

Saagar turned to face Bharat at the commotion, and Bharat ran behind him to hide. Neither Saagar nor Vidya saw each other before she crashed into him, pushing him in the rain. The color in Vidya's hand spread all over Saagar's clean, white Kurta, as he grabbed her wrists in his palms to stop her falling into him completely.

Time stood still for Vidya as she gasped in horror at Saagar's clothes. Saagar himself looked at his Kurta, in what Vidya could only describe as shock. Not only was he drenched but his Kurta had now completely turned orange, the yellow and red colors mixing in the rain.

Saagar looked at Vidya, but as the rain fell, he couldn't quite make out her expression, but she shivered against him. He couldn't tell whether it was because of the rain or because she was afraid. Afraid of what? Him? As he stared at her curiously, he realized that he was responsible for the slight quiver in her. She was afraid of his reaction. He didn't have time to react as his friends took the opportunity to drench him with more colors. They pulled him away from Vidya who just stood there, looking at her wrists wrapped in his hands. He let go, and turned away towards his friends.

Behind their back Chinu hi-fived Bharat for leading Vidya straight to Saagar. Then they both shook Vidya out of her reverie as Shalu splashed her with more colors. Vidya smiled relieved then gave back to both Shalu and Bharat in full force.

Saagar found his attention straying towards Vidya often as he pondered her reaction to him, and why it bothered him. His gaze wandered towards her, and he caught her secretly enjoying the rain. Her hands were stretched beside her as she twirled lightly, her smile lighting up her whole face. He found himself mesmerized by the sight and turned to watch.

"Vidya baarish ho rahi hai. Chalo na. Tumne promise kiya tha na ke tum bhi mere saath bhigogi. Hum khoob masti karenge, saath mein bheegenge. Jaldi Chalo."

Saagar took Vidya's hand in his pulling her towards the terrace. He splashed into the water puddles beside her, and then grabbed her waist from behind, lifting her and twirling her with his arms wrapped around her.

Vidya laughter rang out, echoing through the night.

It echoed through his mind as he opened his eyes. His gaze met Vidya's who had stopped twirling and was now studying him. He looked at her confused, wondering what had just happened. Was he imagining things? Or had it really happened? Was it a memory? He tried to remember but nothing came to him, and he gave up frustrated.

Saagar realized that he and Vidya, both stood alone in the rain, everyone else having tired of the rain had moved inside.

Vidya hesitated then moved towards Saagar, who made no effort to move at all. She stopped a few feet away from him, not daring to go any closer.

"Aapko undar chalna chahiye varna thund lag jayegi. Chaliye." She almost reached out for his hand but stopped herself in time. Instead she turned away, and walked towards the house as Saagar joined her walking beside her, still lost in contemplation.
