~Part 28~
"Friends are those rare people
who ask how you are
and then wait to hear the answer..."
Sagar's P.O.V.
"Vidya, what's that on your neck? Is that a...love bite?"
My eyes fell straight to Vidya's neck, where there was a little brown spot on the side. I looked up at a flushed Vidya. her cheeks were turning a deep red. "No," she said, unconvincingly. Jiya and Vijay started bursting in laughter. I let out a dry chuckle, as I stared at Vidya's neck.
We were sitting at the Clarke Cafe. It was the first day of our 1 week break from college. It was just me, Riya, Vijay, and Vidya. Awan couldn't come because of an important client, and neither could Isha because she has classes in the morning. Isha was the girl I met at the store. We just hung out, though. We weren't a thing.When I snapped out of my thoughts, Vidya was fully recovered from her embarassing moment.
"Yeah, the beach sounds good!" Vidya said.
The beach? "What?" I wondered aloud.
They all looked at me. Riya laughed, "What world were you in, Sagar? We're planning to go the the beach during break."
"Yeah, it'd be me, Riya, Vidya, Awan, you, and Ishika, if you want." Vijay said.
"Oh, that'd be fun. Let's plan it for the day after tomorrow." I said, finally aware to what was happening.
They all agreed, then Vidya's phone rang. "Hello?...Hey, Awan..." Her eyes lit up as she heard what Awan was saying. "Yeah, I'll be there...No, I..."
I realized I was listening to their conversation, well half of it. But it still seemed rude. I turned my attention to Jiya and Vijay and we planned more of the beach day, while Vidya talked.
"What happened," Jiya inquired a moment after Vidya shut her phone.
"He's at my house. He forgot I was here, so he got his friend to drive him there. Now, he's waiting at my doorstep. No one's home."
"So you're leaving?" I asked, watching her get up and gather her belongings. She nodded.
"That's cool, we'll all leave. Have to get ready for beach day anyway." Jiya said.
"Okay, Manu, let's go!" I said.
"No, Sagar, it's okay. I'll walk. You're going the opposite way."
"Shut up, Manu. I brought you here and I'm going to take you back. Okay?"

"God, that was hilarious!"
"What was?" Vidya asked.
"The hickey thing. I mean you could have at least covered it up with some makeup, or something." I laughed.
She giggled, "Shut up!" I halted at the red light looking at Vidya.
"And to think you're going back for more!" My stomach started to hurt as I could not contain my laughter. VIdya gasped, a smile still playing faintly around her lips. She raised her fist to playfully punch me just as I caught it. "Oh, Ms. Vidya, I didn't know you were so violent. That Awan has made you a wild girl." I started to tickle her before she could even react. In mere seconds, we were both tickling each other, mercilessly and laughing hysterically. Suddenly, my eyes caught hers and abruptly, we stopped and my hands fell in her lap, my fingertips slightly touching her waist. Laughter fading. I looked at her and she returned the gesture, holding my gaze. I could see the specks in her deep brown eyes, every detail so clear...It was impossible to turn away...
HONK! HONK!
And with that, we blinked, falling out of our trance almost immediately. I cleared my throat, uncomfortably and slammed down on the acclerator, gripping the wheel with one hand, wiping the perspiration of another on my jeans. An awkward minute or so passed.
"Don't you think the beach is an amazing idea? i just can't wait!" Vidya said.
"Same here. I checked the weather. It's going to be awesome."
"Oh, crap, I have to go shopping for a new beach outfit."
"Since when do you care so much about shopping?"
"Well, I am a girl." She blushed, then, which made it clear that that wasn't the only reason.
The car screeched to a stop. "Well, here you go." I opened the lock, and looked past her to see Awan sitting on the steps, playing absentmindedly with a twig.
"Thanks for the ride. See you later. Call me, alright? We need to discuss the beach plan."
"Okay, bye." She smiled and left. I watched how she ran upto him. How he got up. How she wrapped her arms around him. How he kissed her on the cheek. And how she hugged him.
I felt a smile cross my face and I drove off...
