In one of the first (Jan 2009 ) episodes..... Virat is shown talking to himeself that this "order 'Mheyavanshi Diamond Works' ko nahin, 'Sanghavi & Sons' ko milega".

I think Virat may not have children of his own. Sanghvi and Sons could be the name of his ancestral company where his father or grandfather could have given the name.

I dont think Virat is inconsistent in his behaviour. His enemity is with DM and not the children. So publishing the wedding photos were to humiliate DM whereas here it is his niece's life at stake. He did not want her to be taken advantage of. He admitted to AC that she was like a daughter to him.
