Ok here we go. And many-many thanks to Hema. Couldn't have done it without you. Sorry to have bothered you while working!!

If you want Fame-Money then have to work hard: Aasiya Kazi

11th std teenager Aasiya Kazi plays a role of Santo in Bandini serial where she is married to a man twice her age. Aasiya Kazi, portrying a lower caste village girl Santo on the small screen, is quite different in real life. Aasiya has passed one juncture by completing her dream to become an actress but her dream of graduating, a big juncture, is yet to be completed.

Family's princess and area's tom boy: I was born and brought up in Mumbai. My family, father an Engineer, mother a housewife and an elder brother. From the very young age I was very much into TV and Movies. Mum says, as a child no matter how much I used to cry, but as soon as the TV was turned on, I'd get quiet. In reality, I was interested in becoming an actress from a very early age. Was good in my studies at St. Louis (sp?) but also took part in plays. In 2nd std I set foot on the stage for the first time but was not nervous to perform. The part was small and I wanted to perform more so as soon as I got backstage, I started crying. From the very young age I was fearless and naughty/mischievous. I was labeled/known as Tomboy in my area and my school. I have really enjoyed my school life. I am pampered in my family. Along with love, affection and spoiling me a bit, they have also instilled in me the importance of discipline and good values.

We are together: I am 17yrs old but according to my belief, if you have your family's support then you can overcome any hurdle and find the solutions. Family members knew of my dream to become an actress and have always supported me. To fulfill this dream I started giving auditions while carrying on with my studies. Many a times I faced rejections and there were also instances where a role promised to me was given away to some other girl just because she had the experience of doing a couple of ads. One time, I passed the audition for a lead role and all was finalized. Being an outdoor shooting, bags packed and all, I arrived at the shooting only to find that someone else was already shooting for my role. I was very disappointed. It was my family's love and support that helped me overcome the shock. Even then, my dream and goal of becoming an actress did not diminish or weaken. When I went to Balaji house for an audition, I didn't even know of it being a lead role. Ekta Kapoor talked to me very warmly, helped remove my nervousness and explained the details of the role. In the end I auditioned and when I was told that I was selected, for a moment I just could not believe it. I live in Jogeshwari (sp?). One morning as I am leaving for my shoot I was shocked to see a Bandini billboard across the building. For me it was a moment of happiness and pride. At that moment I forgot all the past rejections.

Bandini's Santo: In the serial, I play a role of Santu, a girl from the lower caste. Circumstances have me marry a man twice my age and I go home not as a wife or a mother but as bandini where my character has different dimensions and is challenging at the same time. Being my first serial, have experienced a lot of firsts. Life's very first autograph is given on the sets of Bandini itself. Went to shoots despite fever and injuries, keeping in mind the show must go on. I will never forget the first shooting schedule in Udaypur. Had to shoot in the wet mud and the shot was not coming out ok. Because the mud would dry up, we had to shoot in 6-7 degrees Celsius while being covered up in mud all over again for each shoot. Shoots started at 9am and went till 7 in the evening. That day was forced fasting too.

Actress and Student: Today although I am popular as Bandini's Santo, in real life I am a student. This year I gave my exams for 11th std at Bhavan's College. Giving importance to education and degree, I arrived at the sets with my books. After being an actress my entire dream is to graduate in arts. At any juncture of life, education and degree are very helpful. It helps one become more wise and mature. During my exams, I used to give exams in the day and shoot at night. It's obvious if you want fame-money, you have to work hard and for that I am ready. Today in life I am playing a double role, actress and student.

Thanks Mombs and Hema. That was a long interview!

Aasiya seems like a sensible girl. I just can't imagine being 17, studying for exams and acting in a TV serial! Good for her that she is able to do that!😊

Amazing translation Mombs!!! Nice article on the Bandinin's girl.

Monbs you shld be very proud of yourself that u r able to read and write your mother tongue. I can only talk my mother tongue since though very much in India, I hve live out of ..where my roots are from. For me, this is one of the strongest strengths as only this will keep our culture alive in the future !

Grt for you and Hema and the likes, like you....Cheers n God bless!
