Even though only a fraction of Bandini's character's have been introduced till now, must say that all the actors shown in the first four episodes are excellent!
Most of them look absolutely new to television and hence add to the novelty of the theme and serial!
I particularly liked the actor portraying Nanaji and DR's assistant Pinakin. They look perfect for their parts, hardly like actors, more like the characters themselves!
Even the three sisters, including Aasiya have been cast quite well! They just look the part and don't stick out like a sore thumb.
The actor playing Virat Sanghvi (Can't recollect his actual name, but he comes in a lot of serials) is also very good. I remember him playing the husband's role in an old soap called Hasratein on Zee.
More so, it still comes out as a surprise to me to see a popular actor like Ronit Roy playing such an atypical sort of character, with loads of grey shades. And in his rustic get-up, its hard to recognize that he is the same guy who played a sophsticated character such as Bajaj or a family man like Mihir! He looks completely different in Bandini, adding to the freshness of the show!
Despite an absence of known faces in the serial (I am discouting RR, ofcourse) and departing from everything that Balaji is actually known for (overtly lavish sets, heavy costumes, lots of drama and filmy songs galore) the story has managed to hold its own till now!
Just one question. If anyone apart from Ronit Roy (someone new or someone less popular) had been playing the role of Dharamraj, would any of you still have given a try to Bandini and watched it for a whole week?
Hope to get some interesting opinions here!
Soapie
PS: Once again, full marks to the detailing. Even DR's factory name was written in Gujrathi instead of English or Hindi!

Great discussion Soapie!

I don't know the guy's name who plays Virat but I do remember him playing Saavi's first husband who she abandons after her ex-marital affair with Harsh Chaya's character. Anyways, yea he is good like u said.

I love the actor playing Nanaji, he is brilliant. The whole cast is actually, even the HONKAY guy Jagmohan is good, even though he is annoying. Aasiya's scenes with her sisters and Naanu have been heart warming and also the ones with Shashank are funny in a cute way.

Now coming to Ronit da, well what can I say...he always plays all his characters so differently. I have watched all his shows whether it's Rishabh Bajaj, Mihir Virani, Kunal Veer Pratap Singh, Inder Shah, Aparajit Deb, Bhishm and now Dharam Raj Mahiyavanshi all can be easily differentiated. It's the life that he induces in all his characters. Even though Rish and Mihir were portrayed by him simulateneously, he never made me feel ke it's Mihir in Rish's character or Rish in Mihir's character. He is that brilliant of an actor. I am not surprised to see such evil shades in Dharam, as Rish had such too...but he changed when he fell in love. Ronit da in his interview has said that this character is far ahead of Rish in terms of grey shades. So I am really excited.

As far as giving Bandini a chance, had Ronit da not played the lead in it is concerned I would say a NO. I am just being honest. As it is there are time constraints, and to give something a shot that you are not interested in is a waste of time. I gave Bandini a shot only for Ronit Bose Roy. I gave other shows like KS a shot for RR only, when he left that show, I left it too.

I am really looking forward to see how the show progresses with a lot more characters to be introduced, it's surely looking GOOD.

I love Bandini.

Good topic Soapie.

I don't know any of the actors besides RR so can't really comment on any.

As for their performance so far, all seem to be doing justice to their characters. Yes, even Jagmohan the snake fits his role.

I read somewhere that some of the actors are stage actors. If that is Nana, explains his skill and experience. Good choice.

The setting is just fabulous. Not overly done yet detailed perfectly. The village life is shown so realistically. Nana's little cottage where Nana has a khatiya and girls are on the floor. The water matka on a stand, so aplty placed outside. And the cow right at the door step. Yes, the details are captured nicely. Authentic looking village life.

The sprinkling of Gujarati is perfect. Again, not overly done. Just a quick line here and there. Makes the whole thing seem so real and natural....

Now, the question of would I have given this show a chance had it not been for RR...seriously, No. Just as I am not watching Kitni Mohabbat either. I am sure that show is diff from the past serials and is most likely good too but it's a question of time and interest. Given the shortage of time, my interest only lies in RR and his talent hence his shows. He brings out the best in his characters. Absolutely love watching him.

Hi Soapie nice topic,

Almost all the characters introduced so far in Bandini have caught my eyes, especially, Pinakin, Nanaji and that sleezy/oily Jaggu. None of the characters look out of place to me. I am loving the village setting, the vivid colours, the music and attention to details so far.

I think RR has played somewhat atypical characters before. Wasn't Rishabh Bajaj kinda atypical? He was introduced as a grey character in KZK, a hero with peppery hair and a not so white heart in the begining. In Kasam Se he played a eccentric rogue...a kinda villainous character. I think RR has experimented with his roles and his looks quite a bit.

I would not have watched Bandini had Ronit Roy not been a part of it. He is the sole reason I watch this show. The only Asian showes I watch have Ronit Roy in them.

Hey there Soapie !!

What a lovely discussion and a very interesting question posed at the end..

I have a special soft corner for Nanaji and Pinakin .. I mean the actors playing these two roles - they are too good in their roles.. you can sense the loyalty and blind dedication of Pinakin towards DM when he calls him motabhai , even on the phone!

As for Nanaji, those wrinkles and those gestures are most beleivable.. so I am very happy with the casting ..

Somewhere down the line, I would love to see DM and Virat patch up..ofcourse that is a distant possibility because as of now, I dont feeel bad for either of them ! LOL

hehehhehe

NOW the answer to your question -

If not for Ronit, I would not have avidly watched Bandini like I am doing it now but I would have truly appreciated if it had turned out to be so good without Ronit as well - ofcourse that is improbable.. but that's just my opinion!

Thanks for all the comments guys, it was interesting to read them all! And as I suspected, most of you guys are watching it for RR😉😃
I was hooked on by the promo's and the storyline, plus I wanted to see Mr. Ronit Roy in action and settle once in for all, what the hype is about!
Must say, I am totally impressed in just four episodes! Don't know whether Bandini is his finest work till date or whether he is an excellent actor otherwise too, but for me, one of the reason's for watching Bandini is seeing RR play Dharamraj!
All the actors in Bandini are very good and most important look their parts! That might be the reason why the serial seems so real and unique.
