Not genes but the environment shaping him up.

Both. Not one only.

There are instances when children of ideal parents turn out to be bad apples.

Children of ideal parents or children of ideal human beings?
Ideal parent is some one no matter what he or she is as a human being wants his/her child to turn out to be a good human being and does everything within her/his means to see that his/her child becomes an ideal human being. So the children of ideal parents will not turn out to be bad apples.

Ideal people's children may turn out to be bad apples though😛😆

@Leaves, I haven't read the entire thread, but want to put my 2 cents as well 😊. Pardon me if this sounds repetitive.

Did Ratan do a favor to Mannu by saving his life?

Ratan died peacefully after talking to his son. I think Ganga did more than enough for Ratan.
Ratan was no saint and he had no role to play in Mannu's life.

I am surprised that Mannu, who is shown to be so mature to handle his younger brother and his little fights, to comfort his mother, to fight with the street boys for his girl friend, one who takes independent decisions with out consulting his parents at the age of 16, is comfortable fooling his mother time and again, is meting out such close-minded treatment to his own parents, especially his father. Why he needs to know entire truth, can't he simply trust his parents like a son who has been loved and protected through out? Why can't he understand that there might have been a very strong reason for whatever happened?
I agree Ganga did delay this whole thing, but she had her own fears and concerns from bad experiences and I won't blame her. Mothers are like that in real life.

Demeaning one's parents who have dedicated their life for you is an extremely bad cause.

Mannu is at fault totally.

Was she running away with the child? Didn't she inform the police? Was she running away from law?
Who is running away from law Ratan or Anandi?
Who is being hindrance to law taking it's course? Ratan or Anandi?

You are ignoring the circumstances and mannu's reaction. He is still young. His goody goody behaviour was when he was comfortable.

Ganga was alerted by Jagya not once but more than twice. Yet she went on and withheld the information. Even when Ratan was dying, she did not want to tell the truth to the questioning mannu and let him have some small talk with him. And Jagya suddenly started supporting his wife.He snatched a pretty toy from another and went on playing with that toy. That toy happened to be mannu. He might have kept it in a nice showcase but ultimately that toy belonged to someone else.

While anandi gracefully gave up her toy Amol to the rightful owners.

Ratan maybe bad but even bad parents have their rights.

Jagya has been very balanced in his approach towards Ratan and Ganga's past life.
Where did he suddenly start supporting his wife? He was always supportive, expressed his opinions and gave her complete freedom on Ratan. He never treated Mannu as a toy but was very protective of him.
Today whatever Ganga and Mannu are because of Jagya. Entire BH family almost lost their lives for the mother-son duo.

Why so much sympathy for Ratan suddenly? And he has not been denied any parental rights. He wishfully gave them up and his last desire was met.

Amol's situation is not at all comparable to Mannu..

It was such a farcial drama. Gehna emerged hale and hearty with her child intact after the ordeal!

Certain things cannot be washed away just because something good was done. They are 2 separate issues.

What is the issue here? That Mannu was not told the entire truth ? Big deal !
Well, Ganga should have shown Mannu's pictures and videos to Ratan.
That would have been good enough.
There was no need to reveal Ratan's true identity to Mannu.

That is called double standards and hypocrisy.
