I believe in celebrating vote day as holiday: Pratyusha Banerjee

I believe in celebrating vote day as holiday: Pratyusha Banerjee
Pratyusha Bannerjee

Pratyusha Banerjee might have played a socially and politically aware woman in Balika Vadhu, but in real life, she is far removed from national politics.

During a recent conversation, when she was asked if she would go to hometown Jamshedpur on Thursday (April 17, 2014) to cast her vote, the 22-year-old said, "Though I got my Voter ID card four years back, I have never voted and won't do so this time too as I feel nothing happens whether you vote or don't. It just doesn't matter. The corruption doesn't cease, the crime rates don't come down, no matter which party comes to power. So I believe in celebrating vote day as a holiday.

I think timesofindia should not have published this article. People (including the celebrities) have their own opinion, but a celebrity saying he/she never voted or not intending to vote gives wrong message to the people. It is the responsibility of the media to publish only good message especially when the Election Commission is taking various efforts to spread the message of importance of one's vote.

It is just very sad to see such statements when all around efforts are being made by everyone concerned so that voting rights are exercised and not wasted...Personally I believe that each and every vote counts Let disillusionment/ cynicism not creep in for the sake of our vibrant democracy and hope for better governance

I agree with Puja TOI should not have published this interview.
It is very irresponsible on the part of Pratyusha to say this and TOI to publish this. But I guess it is her opinion.
There are people who take their voting rights seriously in the belief that they are contributing to the nation building in some way .
This views from Pratyusha are insulting to those people who value their voting rights.
If people elected do not do their job properly it is all the more reason to throw them out by using your voting right.
Sad to see people not utilising their voting rights.
I have been trying hard to get my voter ID card so that I can vote and have my say in the govt formation and here people despite having voter ID cards don't care to vote and what's more they are proud of it.
I hope all youngsters are not like this.

Disappointed with the statement.I am glad that majority of youngsters does not have similar views and participating enthusiastically in voting this time. This is the least they can do for building our nation a better place.
Media should have refrain from publishing statements which can have adverse effect on people..

This is very surprising to see TOI is publishing such article.
I guess , playing Anandi didnt have any effect on Prats. She considers it just a holiday.

Anyway its her personal opinion but sad to see when the youths should do their bit to change the society she is making such comments and I dont think she realizes what she is saying.

partying /drinking is fine but one should have some moral responsibility too.

Absolutely agreed puja...me too thin the same that TOI should not publish this article at least for this time...becoz every individual have there own choice and opinion...and not only pratsi many ppl of our country are thinking the same...but as she is a celebs so may be this opinion give a negative effect on viewers...media and govt should encourage ppl to keep voting more...
