Rohini, the act sure was very regressive. But I feel here it was used as an exaggerated threatπŸ˜›
I guess there is a difference in how one perceives things too.
We women wear bangles for decorating our hands. It adds to the beauty of the hands that takes care and not that are helpless or weak. If I can use hands to put the bangles I sure can use it to remove them also when I desire and can go ahead & wring few necks😈
But I personally feel that it showed that courage is not the prerogative of the physically strong πŸ˜ƒ Hands wearing bangles can multitask if need arises we can remove/throw away the decoration and go ahead for destruction...Jai HO!!

It is a state of mind whether we wear or remove pants for saris or bangles for guns.
And it further showed that 8 to 80 can take on the baddie collector head on. πŸ‘πŸΌ

Basically it was over dramatized to drive a message home that women from Aji's Jaitser are not weak and meek. They are all are decedents of Jhansi ki rani. πŸ˜ƒ

Some reality bites from Sanchi's maddern India ...After India's world cup defeat there was a pic in TOI of Sachin with lots of bangles next to him πŸ˜›

AWWW Uma πŸ€— I knew you'll get my POV πŸ˜ƒ

Seeing one side of things (duality) always hurts it is wounding, seeing all sides of things (unity) is healing!

Bang on post Rohini !
On the face of it, it seems just like an old hindi proverb so commonly used but we all know that it is very derogatory and demeaning to today's women, infact there are quite a few hindi proverbs that demean a women's pride and other living souls as well. These are outdated and with changing times, we should get rid of these proverbs and take strong offence to whoever uses them. These should not be brushed off as insignificant.

The director should have been more careful as TV is a strong medium either for clearing or encouraging false age old perceptions.. Why compare to a woman to bring a man down ? The girls could have handed him his car keys or offered help to assist him to his home, some thing else for dramatic effects.
On a lighter side, I wished this new collector had mustaches, so the girls could have offered a razor to shave it off 😊.
I wanted to add that my concern is with respect to the hindi proverbs and not with Dadisa.

Uma & Appy i just read your post & yes never did it look like an endorsement... it was a spur of the moment decision not a planned act . I wouldn't loose my sleep on this rather if I had my way ...I would have told the girls to use the bangle as a arm-ammunition & attack . It did nothing to destroy our image. Women are physically weaker and man are stronger & on the other side men are emotionally weaker where we are stronger.

Rather I felt bad when Aji agreed to marry Shiv coz of pressure from her family members. We have had so many discussions here on that. But Aji is shown being happy and content in following her man πŸ˜‰ I'm sure most of us here will not be happy with this πŸ˜›
where is Aji walking together with her hubby today? Though she has the capabilities. If Shiv would have encouraged her to prepare for civil services exams & all that would have been a different story.

BV is following the beaten path where things are changing but not drastically. THey still feel women's true happiness lies with her pati hence they just follow their man rather than walking together. its too hard for me to figure out why? Oh! Ya Pati parmeshwar πŸ˜‰

I don't understand why everybody is behind DS these days. Bechari accha karthi hai toh bhi usme galtiyan nikaalthe hai.
DS though changed for better, still she is a uneducated woman from a village set-up. Chudiyaan pehenle kind of remarks are very common. In Jab we met, Kareena's character geet who is modern and educated said the same thing to some guard at railway station. Whats is the fuss over everything!!!

Tina,
Agree on all this,
But they still show Shiv as "Patnivrata Pati" πŸ˜‰πŸ˜†
So, its kind of balanced in case of Anandi - Shiv πŸ˜ƒ

Some of you have said the bangle scene was not an endorsement. It is certainly a point of view but had the cvs meant not to endorse they would have shown it in someway. Like one of the girls saying : "let's not demean ourselves by giving our bangles." Not Ds but one Anandi-type spunky girl. And DS rounding her eyes and saying in enlightened response : " chori tu sahi kahve." This way a regressive practice can be shown and debunked. And believe me the same forum would have gone ga-ga over the anandi effect on the jaitser girls.

Some others have said women who wear bangles are not weak and can also be aggressive when required. True. But then that would mean that the collector too can be strong. So i didn't quite get the logic.

I personally see the bangle as a handcuff -- strictly my view and am not judging others at all -- and have never worn them. Maybe the girls could have said : "wait till these bangles become handcuffs."
this where creative story- telling comes in.

Hats off to the way the cvs have shown DS in the same sequence. Her talking of environmental pollution was a class act. Shows her modern thinking. Which is why the bangle scene is jarring.

Rohini, if you think that bangles are handcuff 😲 I think it is your angry 21st century approach. I see a angst ridden modern woman, with its burden of individualism here in the post. JMO

For me it was fiction that was impressive in its skill ( talking abt the chemical hazard part) and heartrending in its honest head on approach( the bangles).

It is your choice that you don't wear bangle and it is my choice that I wear bangle as a symbol of my marriage like my ring...nothing wrong right ? For me bangles are symbol of my suhag not a sign of weakness and vulnerability if I wear them. Dressing has nothing to do with being modern and progressive. It sure does not make any of us weak . Bangles, bindi sindoor, payal, 6 mt sari cannot change me or bind me. I'll not take out a morcha & fight for feminism if I'm asked to wear a sari or put sindoor & bangle for a puja or a certain occasion. It sure will not make me doormat or a floor-matπŸ˜ƒ I don't like this the forced demand for change. My dad spends more time in the kitchen than my mom; but that's because he loves cooking. She didn't demand it - he didn't request it. This is how it shd be. I like it ...I'll do it & I don't so I won't ...keeping feminism and socialism away. OH! ya I'll keep wearing bangles & I'll expect men to be chivalrous by opening doors for me, offering me my 'rightful' seat in a crowded bus πŸ˜³πŸ˜†

What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us. πŸ˜ƒ these old ideologies are so ingrained in these girls that is hard for them to come out of it. Like sasural is your true home, Pati is parameshwar. If after marriage Collector would have shifted to BH would he not been called a gharjamai? It is a derogatory term . I still remember when Shiv brought her back to her maika without informing or late informing Ira he was called joru ka gulam πŸ˜› with a negative connotation. I use it on Shiv all the time but I like him doing Aji's gulaami πŸ˜†

Chemical pollution ...farmers and land owners are quite aware and knowable abt it as it harms their crops... time to time they are being educated on this and sometimes they have seminars in Delhi Krishi Bhawan and where many top farmers and sarpanpch from villages come and take part. So their chemical understanding is adept but social ideologies so ingrained in their system that it will take time to come out.

Similarly for DS taking out bangles and putting it in front of CS was just an aggressive angry stance 😊 nothing more. WE are all entitled to our own stance... some are aggressive & some can be termed regressive. On the other side we have maddern Sanchi who says that she is entitled for her own stance, "I can do whatever I want!" to the perpetually angry approach of "leave me alone!".
