It is so last century to present bangles to cowards. Does this not imply that girls and women wearing bangles are cowards? The incorrectness of the gesture has been so widely discussed and trashed that i thought even BV would have known of it. This demeans the women more than the baddie collector and takes away from the boldness of the ds-led confrontation.

That gesture is regressive . But at the same time it is still prevalent.
If Dsa who is a product of the system wit no benifit of exposure to the world outside and education makes this gesture it is not surprising.
But sometime back a president of a country used that phrase and that is infinte times more condemnible than Dsa.
It is not in support of Dsa but things should be looked at ina larger perspective before saying is regressive.
If Bhairon or Jagya or say Anandi or Shiv makes this gesture it will be absolutely unacceptable.

Dsa had she been educated like us Forum wasis I am sure she would not have used that gesture.

The purpose was to show that someone with the benefit of highest level of education is still regressive.

@aparna if ds was a real person i wouldn't have minded so much. She is cv's creation and by making her do this cvs are betraying their own lack of evolution. The way ds took on collectorsaab and left him with a warning and a foretaste of what she can do was more than enough. The message was loud enough without the bangles.

Dsa is a crude person. So her methods will be crude . I think the message reached the collector only after the bangles were thrown at him . We want realism in our fiction shows and that's how a woman like her make a point.

There is a way of showing realism without it seeming like an endorsement. This is not a harmful gesture so it is okay. But if you show wife- beating as it is, it becomes problematic.

Though the whole act seems regressive, feel, the reason DS gave for presenting the bad collector with bangles seemed apt to the situation.
Since, he is saying, there is hardly anything that he could do, or is willing to try, DS made a remark, that such tender hands can do nothing but be decorated with bangles.
In a way, this does not demean women, but only makes a point, that his hands are useless for anything else other than wearing bangles.
Women who work and strive, balance both home and career, do wear bangles 😃

I don't think it was shown like it was an endorsement.
More regressive than Dsa's gesture was that collector's reaction to that.If he had been truly an educated man he would not have felt insulted. He would have explained to DSa that by indulging in this kind of throwing bangles at men she is not insulting men but insulting women.
If Shiv had been in that collector's position and some irate harassed citizen came and threw bangles at him he would have certainly explaine it to her and he would have taken trouble to explain to her this.

A person like SRS IAS would not even had such a situation to encounter 😆
He would have explained the pro's and con's of his position, even before, the citizen had done something like that.
