Chapter 6 - Changing times
"...I am your hope"
She halted her rocking chair. She was recollecting the last couple of hours gone by. That pair of piercing eyes, the welcoming smile, that one wrong dialogue! It did not form part of the script given to her by Bhairav. She lost herself for moment then, but gathered herself back soon enough and she was annoyed. First, that person standing in front of her was late, second he goofed up the dialogues and third he had almost instantly charmed everyone else around, except her.
The girls in the team were giggling and secretly eyeing him throughout the practice. Bhairav Sir feigned anger for a moment and then welcomed him with a thunderous applause, approving his improvised dialogue and asked them to continue with the practice. While everyone else was already mingling around with him, she did not exchange a single word and discreetly walked out, at the end of the rehearsals.
She got up and walked towards her balcony. She glanced outside. It was past six in the evening. The atmosphere was beautiful. While the skies were busy exchanging warm and cool colours and merging into a fast appraoching night, the sun and moon almost seem to be converging into themselves. What a bizzare sight, she wondered.
She looked down. A group of kids from the society were playing catch and cook in the compound. She smiled. She loved kids. They reminded her of her own carefree days, her fun loving days with her friends, her secret escapades with Jagdish to jump in the puddles, to make those paper boats.
"...Anandi didi...please come down..." one of the girls screamed...they loved her. She was their buddy, who would play with them, make them study in her free time...and advice them to play in the open, instead of surrounding themselves with computers and TV. She was their sister, friend, teacher rolled into one.
Beaming, Anandi joined them. There were peels of laughter and excitement in the air. She went back to being her eight year old self.

He was driving. But his thoughts were filled with her...Anandi...he thought to himself.
That Girl, Those Eyes, That questioned Look, The Pain. It wasnt the first time he had seen her.
He gulped. He had seen this girl, those eyes, the pain earlier too.
He had saved her earlier too.
He stopped the car, pressing the brakes instanteously. He looked out, clutching his steering wheels. It was a deserted road.
Suddenly, his cell phone buzzed.
Startled, he picked up his phone. The name was familiar.
"...Hello...please tell me there is some improvement...please..." He asked with a shaken voice.
"...Shiv, the condition has worsened...we will have to shift her on ventilator, I am sorry Shiv, your mother is very serious..."
A tear trickled down his eyes...
