I don't know if limited is the right word to use in a general sense. Many women find their purpose and strength within their familial roles/relationships. But in Anandi's case, she has always been shown as strengthening her family and community by and through her roles in each.
As a bahu she transformed into a daughter and changed the lives of the Singhs through her character and her achievements both inside and outside the home.
As a balika vadhu she challenged village society's norms to become a sarpanch with the support of the same family who questioned her need/right to further education.
As a sarpanch she changed village society's expectations regarding what young girls should be doing, that is, getting an education not a husband.
As a bride she encouraged inclusion and acceptance of rituals and traditions normally denied to widows and divorcees
As a wife she built a close and trusting relationship with her husband founded on honesty and friendship. Love happened but friendship happened first.
And now as a mother is welcoming her child via unconventional means, not because she was unable to get pregnant or because she had no other choice but because she and her husband made the choice to do so.
Hence with a character like this...how can we not expect more?
