A memory to treasure for a life time..." For the very first time, when Anandi & Jagya as grownup adults were about to taste the conjugal bliss...Dadisas' sudden intervention...on the pretext of - inauspicious time... and her insistence that the two cannot be allowed together till an auspicious time is found...disappoint and devastate them...
The same night ---Jagya insists to meet her on terrace...Anandi with a new found attraction ..inquisitive and excited,- sets on her way to meet him late in the night.. but taken aback with the entry of Dadisa, Anandi fumbles and tries to save herself from her glare...like a chick hides from the wicked gaze of a hyena ...clings to the wall...holds her veil close to her face with one hand ----clutching her ghagra tightly with the other...gently biting her lips with closed eyes..."shivering ...trembling with fear; standing there in anticipation of a certain death; but also hoping & praying that she should not be noticed. Responding to Dadisa's call , Sumitra walks past her, as if she didn't notice anything; though she may have...may be to protect her LADO!! To the relief of all viewers, Anandi is saved of awkwardness and embarrassment !!!
This plight of Anandi, ---I am sure would have brought some sweet & not so sweet reminiscences to many married/yet to be married women !!!!!What an anticipated romantic moment!!!What an unwanted interruption !!!
Anandi and Jagdish's ---childhood attachment... companionship ...adolescent passionate love----matured friendship... his was extravagant ... passionate ...-- hers was tender... sensitive...delicate feelings; filled with captivating smiles ... she entharalled him ... with heavenly beauty ...rustic innocence...!
A teenage love saga ended abruptly!!
Jagdish shifted to Mumbai for medical education...encouraged and arranged by Anandi--
She never anticipated that the city life will strike him at the speed of light !!!Eyes wide shut... he went on hurting Anandi --her unsophisticated behaviour---rustic appearance...he treated her as an uneducated villager! Both coexist uneasily ; side by side... with immeasurable mental stress ___ After the incident of her Mumbai visit ----Deeply hurt by his remarks...she improved and empowered herself...
A small interlude"
In one of Jaggya' s visits to Jaitsar... Anandi tried to move out of the room ; to avoid discomfort to Jaggya by sleeping in the same room .. ...--- sudden entry of Jaggya in to the room...his asking her to stay back in the room by saying --"-this is not only mine ...it is your room too...it is our room... you must stay back here"!!--
These words rekindle her hope of re-establishing their love-bond that existed since their childhood .
They shared the same bed, lying on their sides -,away from each other...That ray of hope of reconciliation brings in a streak of glow into her eyes for a while, turns around to face Jaggiya and--- hesitantly advances her hand... towards him...may be to have a delicate touch..."to have a passionate hug ..---- if he reciprocates in the same measure...and thereby get reassured that their relationship is as stable as before!!But the fear of negative reaction sets in --- and her self- pride makes her withdraw her hand gently...with tears in her eyes !!!---What a heart- wrenching scene it was!! Here also the writer bring back our past feelings ...a heldup tear in every married person's eye!!!
Her hope of reconciliation vanished by next day itself! He was not able to digest that Anandi got state first in her board exams "unable to accept her success ... he was jealous of her achievements...questioned her fundamental right to educate herself...then he got the answer ----for all his wrong deeds---meanness!"She expressed her severe displeasure on his authoritative nature---for the first time in her life...she was so assertive to declare her war on submissiveness ...and stand straight...declared her decision to continue her education!! He felt insulted again--- walked off from the house ...far away from Anandi too!!!---the rift wide open. The meetings were more formal than the relationship they had earlier.
Lenient...towards the attachment with Jagdish --though hazy...vague feeling of love was still there in her heart! It was hard to look back for her ---her state of being alone --- destitution of company - then seclusion!!
She started seeking solace in solitude!! Women need real moments of solitude and self"reflection to balance out how much of herself to give away to others...may be to her own people or to the society!! She kept three separate corners in her heart..."one for solitude--- one for her friends and well wishers and one for the society!!!
Jagdish's life games' : -- He started playing with clouded intelligence--- reflected his life's aims!!"a complex character ..so to say.
He is a conflict- creater and Anandi is a solution provider!! --- She was not bogged down by her troubles---instead dedicated herself to be associated with some social cause or the other.
He decides to continue his studies and he makes it clear to settle there-- he does n't intend to ever come back ---In Mumbai he gets completely immersed in that affair with Gowri. Suffering from prolonged illness...Anandi gets the news that Jagdish was living with Gowri and intends to marry her!"
Without You : -
The devastated Anandi goes on to the terrace ... with broken heart ...under the scorching sun---burdened with choked emotions...Anandi's SQUEAL... to vent out her drowning frustration ... ...a long high pitched cry...echoed in the silent atmosphere of Jaitser. The entire world comes to a halt ...as she fell to the ground -- bringing the clothesline down. The family rallied around her at that crucial moment---gave unconditional love & support . She pulled herself out of that trauma...decided to dedicate her life to social cause----Along with her family ,the entire village stood by her .
Then enters the prince charming ... Shiv , a handsome , no nonsense trouble-shooter.. as a collector of Jaitser... who starts appreciating the sarpanch... a simple village girl -- with strong moral values. For him Anandi becomes the embodiment of all virtues... committed ...fair minded, truthful and an Ideal type of person to share life with!
Though deceived and rejected by her husband (dejected), she handled that heart - wrenching devastating situation with dignity... !. She safeguards her self- pride throughout and emerges as a strong person ! ... All her lovable traits in place!
He appreciated her work...adored her grit and determination--- waited for her to come out of that trauma...and finally succeeded in convincing her to marry him...--
A visual treat to watch the tender love-locks of two people full of dignity----her emotional dependence ...for which she was longing for long---his firm belief in her love...perseverance...admiration...made them a splendid match to each other...
In spite of you :
Though Jagdish deceived and rejected and divorced Anandi...---that childhood attachment...dependence... and bonding was still there! His infatuation for Gowri made him run far away from his roots .. and Anandi-- The ego clashes between Gowri and Jagdish leaves him disillusioned and make him loose his self-identity...and suddenly a strong feeling of self pity engulfs him. He starts longing for his family...realising the importance of Anandi... her absence in his life. Suddenly he finds nowhere to go and that renders him a negative character!! A story of indecisiveness---a saga of everlasting love for Anandi---but an irrevocable revelation---that they are forever APART!!!!
Yet, Jagdish tries to interfere in the blossoming love life of Shiv and Anandi. Aadamant ... hell"bent to get back Anandi ...Jagdish pleads , persuades and convinces Shiv to cancel his marriage with Anandi---
A prelude----After hearing the decision of Shiv... with her self - pride hurt,"She questions the rights of Jagdish and Shiv to decide her fate... her future--- She reveals her real love for Shiv---confirms moving away from Jagdish... She declares that, so far she followed others' decisions ...but not any more...enough is enough..."With stern voice she declares that she intended to take her own decisions---she will decide what to do in her future life...--! This assertive disclosure of Anandi cleared all the doubts ---Shiv realised her love for him--- ...Jagdish realised that...it is an irrevocable rift... YES...some are unpardonable sins!
Jagdish realised that he lost his wife Anandi forever---but treasures her friendship .She has forgiven him...but would n't have taken him back as her husband even in her wildest dreams! She moved on in her life with Shiv as her life partner!!
Shiv chose his love...and he loved his choice forever!!"there were passionate moments ...their eye locks...trying to spend as much time as possible in each others' company...small gifts ..sweet nothings ...silent conversations"it was a lovely love...it was a mutual admiration...their love has taken its own time to bloom...unlike infatuation... a carefully woven beautiful relationship. Anandi found a soul mate in Shiv. Shiv reconciled, understood and accepted Jagdish's posturing at various stages of their interaction and renders support, assurance and confidence in his own way like a true friend!!
While the characters of Anandi and Shiv are well defined and modulated, Jagdish's character so far has been complex because of his inherent weaknesses as well as assertive audacity. An intelligent writer can use his character in any way he wants to fortify the story line. Let us wait and see what is going to unfold in the weeks to come!
