According to me ... The original sin was more to do with Disobedience than Temptation. I'm not saying that temptation didn't play major role there, but the disobedience to the command given, was the major reason to the whole sin. Each one of us face temptations but it depends on your 'will' to take the decision. WILL being the key word. It was considered sin as Adam & eve made their will against God's will. ( Just my view to it all... I'm sounding like some theologian now...😆😆 So I better stop ...😉)
Coming to your doubt: God indeed did forgive them. Yes he was angry, hurt & displeased with them but the punishment was to make them concious of their doing against his will ... Even after that God didn't leave them on their own but did provide them with everything, only he removed them from that Garden where he had chances of loosing them again. Similar to a parent, God loved them & corrected his own children never abandoned them. Would you feel punished if your mother/ father corrected you for your own good???
