This could be a topic starter but it qualifies somewhat in this thread too :
GAURI : A case of Psychosis or Base Emotions (revenge/ambition)
I'm divided about the whole psychological twist because I think it's a bailout to redeem Gauri in the viewers eyes should it be required. Another poster, I think it was Ankit111 who touched on 'Ashirwaad to Adhikar' and that also reaffirmed my train of thought that the CV's are slowly sneaking upon us more and more of the negative Gauri by her choice of words and deeds. Perhaps they are testing the waters to see our reaction before changing her into a full on villainess or perhaps they are slowly shaping our mindsets against her so that she is gradually accepted as a negative character. I read so many posts that state 'I liked Gauri in the beginning but what she is doing to A, I no longer like her'.
Generally, children are very resilient and can rise above very traumatic situations. I find it really hard to digest that the one event in Gsuri's childhood has left her so scarred that years later she cannot function like a bright, intelligent woman. If her parents behavior or Singh family is cited as contributing factors then my counter is this :
* Her parents are shown as very loving and intuitive with her now. She never takes a decision without their or bade papa's input. It does not seem like she has been tortured by her parents for being rejected by Singh family. In fact, it seems like she has been protected and coddled since that incident.
I think she just want pure revenge for the humiliation her father had to bear when begging the Singh family to accept her as the beendhni. Remember the look of hatred in her eyes when she was led out of the haveli as a child.
Her need for revenge and perhaps ambition, seeing the affluence of the Singh Parivaar just sweetens the deal. The CV's are showing us her shades of grey that will soon turn black.
So to sum up, I think Gauri the character is consciously choosing to dig her own grave.
