I agree with you on slum dog movie, i was so angry with that movie in the first place and seeing it win oscar was really really irritating .

We need feel ashamed that some outsider portaryed india in such a bad way and won oscar and media in india do not stop praising them for getting the award.

it is a gr8 show n it is definately reality...television is a powerful medium in india very powerful and its a great way to get a message across cos in these villages where stuff lyk this happens ppl arent educated so they cnt read book or newspapers n stuff so tv is a good way to get a mssg across dat child marriage is rong. i think dats wat balika vadhu's team are trying to do. and if it stops even mayb a few child marriages den so be it dat in ur eyes this serial is sick.
i hope that the creatives continue wat they doing cos u neva no it myt be helping in change ppl behaviour and hopefuly sum customs.
p.s btw there's sumthing called a remote control if u dnt lyk it and this reality they show

We are not saying that we support this child marriage. We don't support it AT ALL!
And yes you are right about saying that child marriage should not be allowed by any law, and guess what?... it is not allowed anywhere. but everyone in the villages that support child marriage still force their child to marry in a young age and there is nothing a child can do about it. they are forced. and even though it is illegal they do it. And even if one person tries to stop them and tell them it is illegal they do not listen. if you have watched all the episodes of Balika Vadhu of july and august then you will know what i mean. Remember when the teacher ji tried to stop the wedding of Anandi... what the villagers did to her? do you remember?
well, anyways...
We are just saying that this show can not be called sick just because it shows some realities and is trying to inform people in and out of the village about all the cruel rules that are STILL followed in this century.
It is not about what one believes... it is about what is right and what is wrong.
And it is not about cultures... it is about life and reality.
And everyone knows that this [child marriage] CAN be stopped and i don't see why there should be a problem about showing the reality in national television. We the people of the world talk about making this world a better place to live and moving it ahead and making our future better but i think that if we ignore these BIG cruel things that happen in the SMALL villages around the world then we will never move ahead. And that is the truth!

P.S. I am just putting my opinions together for you so no offense.

I am not saying that forget your sanskar, all I am saying is that treating a widow woman and that to a child is a harsh thing to do. and dont forget all of you out there that today even the village girls study and work outside the house. This house is not shown as being in village, it is shown reach family.

also, if Masa was widow and raised her kids staying in that havali then why that poor child has to go outside the house?
when her own son asked the question how come Masa didn't have answers?
yes, I rather watch some romantic or someone who came from death type of serials then something like this where people who will learn fromt his and will go backword instead going forward in life.
child vivah should be banned and should be against the law.

.....Do you think if a lone person goes to a village and just say "Stop Doing This!!!"these practices will stop........unfortunately it wont.......its not so easy.......educated people like us understand that these practices are wrong and many NGO's have also tried to protest against it but still they have failed to stop this.....according to you the house is not in a village cause they are rich but it is not true.......they do live in a village and they are some sort of zamindars hence they would have a haveli.

As far as stopping these things are concerned the younger generation are against such practices but it is the older generation like "Maasa" who stands up for these practices and they form the ruling parties in the villages so it is really difficult to go against them.Until and unless the older people will come forward and join the younger people these practices will not end unfortunately....thats the harsh reality.

@ fly2me thanks for liking my comment.......actually i really do feel that if only some older generation people would come forward it would not be that hard to stop all these inhuman practices.

We were only trying to point out that media is a very strong medium n it can in some or the other way help in bringing changes in the society....u can also say that villages where these things happen don't have access to television and cable...but why r we focussing only on the rural India? Do you think in India anywhere widows r treated with respect? why can't we look at the bigger picture....in a family, the older generation tries to force their thinking on the younger generation..BV talks about that generation gap.......and a lot many issues which r an internal part of each of our families....
