I don't like Ghena anymore. What is her problem anyways. I have been seeing this show from the start. so I have not missed anything. She was married with her concern. Her parents did take the money from Dadisa. So what is Ghena's problem.???? How can she think of killing a unborn child. She is so stubborn. You can win people only through love & patience & not ith wstubbornness !!!!

I don't think so! Gehna never said or thought that she wants to win anyone. She's doing the right thing by aborting the child.

With love and patience??? That's sort of an improbable thing since Basant and maa sa is always being stubborn too… Gehna's being stubborn for the right thing… for her life… for her decisions. Wouldnt you fight for your life and desicions too?

Just think about it… what would you do if you were in Gehna's place? You wouldn't abort the child even if that's a danger for you and the baby?...and try to just agree to everything maasa and basant says?! I dont think so... so overall Gehna's is NOT dumb... she's an intelligent women who knows what's right for her and what's not.

I agree, Gehna is a woman who knows what's best for her. If Basant is so desperate for a son then he should be ready to wait for Gehna to be strong enough to be able to carry the child. This is something that maasa and Basant should have taken into account when taking Gehna in as their beendhni/wife. She is literally the same age as Sugana and they are the ones who should be considerate to the fact that if Sugana was in Gehna's position would they not support her, or would they let their grandaughter/niece die. Currently I think it's maasa and Basant who are being ignorant and closing their eyes to the brutal reality/truth.
I am all for Pro-life but in a situation like this I would back Gehna 110% regardless of my viewpoint on abortion. It isn't wrong to want to live or save your life. In Gehna's case it is either save one life or risk losing two lives, I would save one so that there may be a possiblity of another sometime in the future.

I disagree with blr1000...Gehna is not stupid or dumb. She is smart and sensible. Who in the right mind would want a sixteen year old to die because she got married into a rich family and her dumb old mother-in-law and husband want her to have a baby to carry their khandaan's name at the cost of her life?

As long as people think narrowmindedly that a bahu's life is worthless unless she obeys the dumb and non-sensical laws and traditions in the house, things will remain backward in India.

Child marriages are wrong, having sex with a minor (Under 18) is considered statutory rape in most civilized countries. Firstly, Basanth raped the young girl and impregnated her, secondly the girl is too young and weak to carry the baby, thirdly, the mother-in-law should die for riling her son to behave like an animal. So leave poor Gehna alone. I find her gutsy and sane.

I see what you are saying! I feel bad for Gehna that she had to go through all that and get married to a WAY older man but what does she want now?? Does she want to go back to her parents? I mean Maasa told her she could!!
I mean now that she is pregnant...she did not take it very well and from the beginning she did not want this child😕 the scene at the hospital was shocking to me when the doctor told them that Gehna might die and she immediately said yes for the abortion without even thinking...I get the fact that her life is in danger and she should have the right to make her decision but i was kind of expecting her to feel a little sad at the news that her baby might not live She showed no emotion what so ever!! Even her Brother-in-law and his wife thought that she should give it a second thought and discuss it with her husband. But she was hell bent on getting the abortion!! Shouldn't she even once think about the life growing inside of her and feel a little sad that she is going to kill it At the end of the day its her life and her decision but she should feel a little attachment toward the baby in my opinion😕

why do you think a 16 year old should have the emotionsof a much older woman. Most 16 year olds are selfish. she already knows that one woman dies while giving birth. she doesn't want that to be her fate.
i am totally for gehna doing what is right by her. no one else is thinking about her. not her husband and certainly not the old woman.

if a 16 year old can think of future and discuss with her husband that she does not want her child to be a girl because she doesnt want her to face the same problems that she is facing then she should certainly be capable of feeling the emotion of being a mother😕 Gehna has been shown to be mature and understanding way beyond her age😳 So being a 16 year old should not be an excuse in my opinion😉 If she was selfish then she could have ran away from her wedding like that champa girl did but gehna thought of her parents at that time so She has not been shown as being a selfish 16 year old. As for her decision to kill the baby or keep it...It's her choice! But her attitude towards her whole pregnancy is what bothers me😕 She could have shown a frown or two before saying that she wants an abortion! She said it as if she was waiting to hear those words from the doctor and by saying those words the doctor came to her rescue and she immediately took the opportunity😕 Having a baby at the young age can cause problems and put the life at a risk but having and abortion at a very young age also creates somewhat similiar problems I guess I will just wait and watch what happens in the show...

Dear Ladoo,

I think a fair lot of Indian women who are illiterate, poor and child brides lack self-esteem. They are told what to do, how to behave and they value very little about themselves and their bodies.

Men and older women take advantage of this. Firstly, Gehna had no choice in her marriage, she was forced into the marriage and she was forcibly raped by her husband who is in his late thirties. His mother was brutal to the girl, abused her verbally, would have abused her physically if she was allowed.

I find Gehna refreshingly gutsy and knowing her mind. She does want to give the marriage a shot and tries to talk to Basanth with reason and logic. In a few years, when she is stronger and her body is mature, she can have a child if she wants to.

Now, tell me why should Basanth and his mother force her wishes on Gehna but they can't abide by her wishes on either of them? You guys talk as though she had a choice in marrying Basanth, she didn't! She was pretty much bought and treated as a slave, a vessel to carry a 'Male child' for Basanth.

If her doctor says that she can not carry a child, she is grasping at it like you said, because she doesn't want the child, she doesn't want Basanth's baby. If really Basanth wants to change her mind, then treat her with respect, treat her with love and tenderness, eventually make her love him and in a few years they can have a baby that's born out of love!!

THe other thing is she says she doesn't want a girl child because she knows how the girl will fare in Dadi-sa's family. She will always be a nobody, she will not be given any education, she will be given substandard food etc. So it's not because she doesn't like girls, she doesn't want the girl to be in similar state as her, Suguna, Sumitra or Anandi.

lol dear ladoo sounds so cute😆

i find your post very interesting and i get what you are trying to say but it seems you have missed the point of my post😕 I understand that gehna is being mistreated and i feel for her and she has every right to stand up to maasa and basanth but like i said before, my peoblem is not with her decision, it is the way she is letting that out. I guess being a woman and a mother it is very hard for me to understand how she could easily make the descion of abortion without even thinking once😕 Her life is important I KNOW!! But shouldn't she feel tiny bit sad about losing the baby?

And your point about her not wanting the girl...I never said that gehna did not want a girl because she didnt like them. I was simply giving an example that if she can understand the fact of her daughter being mistreated then she should be able to feel the maternal instincts which would allow her to feel an attachment to her unborn child. Which would prove my point that she is not a selfish teenager who can not experience such emotions😉

dear blr1000, i have to disagree with you...I personally think that Gehna is pretty gutsy to take that decision on her own...abortion is a serious ethical issue here and everywhere im sure...but if the pregnancy is due to cause physical harm and danger it is a womans right to abort the kid...I am pro-life too...but I back Gehna up with all I have...I agree with what most of you have to say..if Basant really wanted a kid he would wait until Gehna was of right age and health to bare a child...I say that Gehna has the right to abort the kid but you could alwayssss tell me why you think Gehna is wrong...its all a matter of what one thinks is right over the other...But i did wish that Gehna felt a little more before she decided to abort the kid....I stand by her decision though and dear laddo di (i hope i can call you di) = i think that Gehna might really feel bad about loosing the baby..we might have just not gotten to see that part of it.. or maybe as an actress, she hasnt been able to convey that emotion well enough..and like you said..she isnt really selfish.. but then.. its life and death.. and she is only 16 *or so i think* and she has SO much more to live..and after watching todays episode, ill have to agree with Gehna..Basant and Dadisa are willing to let someone sacrifice her life for an unborn child.. for someone they dont even know yet..but the fact that she is a "jeeta-jaagtha insaan" makes no apparent difference to them...in that case, one really cant help but be a little selfish... and writing this i cant help but go back to a "diversity" course i took..and the topic was rape.. Basant forced himself on Gehna and i cant imagine how she would be emotionally attached to the baby...i mean..you wake up every morning and look at your child and think , he/she looks like the man who raped me..and no matter he was her husband..it was still forcefull..why risk the life of two when there are better chances when Gehna is in a better state to bare a child? on a personal front, i LOVEE how Gehna is the only one who speaks up in that house...

*edited*
01/27/09's episode
would dadisa and basant really have reacted the same way if it was their own daughter? that is something to think about ...sadly...we still have some verryyy orthodox people in india :(
