This is an appreciation post for Bade Ache Lagte Hain season 2.
I remember the first time I got interested to watch this show was when I saw the promos and a popular jodi being back on screen again! For some reason, in that promo Nakuul-Disha both of them got me nostalgic as I recall bit of Bade Ache Lagte Hain S1 and also bit of Pankhuri-Aditya. Both shows I didn’t watch regularly but used to be fav shows of my family that time so I saw some episodes with my family.
For the last 4-5 years I did not watch much ITV shows and even the ones I watched I lost interest pretty fast or got frustrated with the show. So that’s why I did not want to watch another one and hence didnt follow any ITV weekdays show(m a reality show fan) for last 2 years till BALH2 hit the screens. I actually watched the show with pretty low expectations but I really loved it!
From the first episode it hit the right notes. They showed Ram a super successful and cheerful businessman but has hidden his pain infront of the world, the pain of one-sided love and being taken for granted by his step-family whom he doesnt even consider step. And then they showed Priya on other hand, a middle-class lady who is a professor in a university and is shown to be rough at the same time the wonder-woman of her family, however due to broken trust she finds it difficult to trust people especially men. So basically how these two get married(arranged marriage) and fall in love after marriage(shaadi ke baath pyaar hote hote hojata hai)
And then rain(baarish) being the theme for few episodes, (baarish still does make a cameo at times). The acting and direction have been quite good, especially the way Nakuul and Disha played Ram and Priya.
Even though now probably the show might not be the same as it used to be at the start, at the same time it is not at all easy to maintain standards of a show after 100 episodes, honestly I feel this show is still enjoyable mainly because of the acting and some really well written scenes.
The show may have some loopholes like sloppy editing and inconsistency in writing at times, and overdose of irritating characters sometimes, despite all these drawbacks the show manages to stand out among the current itv shows.
One thing that makes this show different from other shows, probably mentioned it before is that they showed that a male can cry. Very rarely in ITV they showed cheerful male characters and clumsy(in a funny way) even if they did they showed most of them as highly oversmart. Ram is smart but fragile when it comes to emotion and he always respected women. He never objectified anyone. Then they also showed a lady can be the one doing all the speaking, she can be the one guiding the male lead not the other way round like they have always shown. This role reversal worked out really well!
Not to forget this show had a huge pressure of being a sequel show with a completely different cast it was not easy for this show to be successful. Yeah they might not be getting very high trps but they maintained one thing from s1 and that is being the highest trp getter among fiction shows in sony. Actually I m quite glad the show is getting the appreciation it deserves. Nakuul/Ram won 2 awards as best actor this month, Ram-Priya won best jodi award and also BALH2 won best new show award! It is also always top 10 in online trps, infact sometimes top 5. And in IF it is the no.1 non-star plus show according to IF chaska meter rating! Its even doing well internationally too.
I hope the show will continue to impress us and show more good tracks, and also maintain Priya and Ram’s characterization. Also its high time they should show Ram and Priya’s love confession!
