Well, you may be one of the rare women of that generation. Hats off. The world needs more women like you.

The women is expected to work, run the family, look after the kids and what not. During the pandemic, I have come across many women, you didn't even have time to breathe. They were challenged during the lockdown because they had to do everything with little or no support from the spouse. Why? Because they were taught that everything is their responsibility. Here the parents (read mother) and the in laws (read mother in law) have to be blamed. There is a saying that the woman's greatest enemy is woman itself.

Not really that rare anymore, but I concede conditioning is very deep seated for some. Interestingly, yesterday a cab driver was chatting with me about his family--4 girls, whom he's educating and then it's up to them. Marry, don't marry, it's fine, he said, because they can stand on their own feet. I found that so great.

Educating or supporting girls is only one part, because even if girls are strong and self sufficient, many guys are still to learn what equality is. In that sense, Ram seems not bad.

I think after a point, and certainly by age 32, you have to stop TELLING your children what to do.
