Ahh lovely.. I'll read all parts and comment but for now this part was too cute. Even a small gesture can mean a lot and knowing that someone is waiting for you is comforting.❤️

8 — Choti Choti Baatein
Ram yawned and blinked, he was trying but failing to concentrate on his computer screen. He looked at his watch. The time was seven fifty five. He decided to head down to the Café. Maybe he could have a little chat with Sara. Priya’s sister was a very entertaining person to talk to. The sisters couldn’t be more different when it came to talking habits. Sara was fun, sweet and kind, unlike Hitler Priya. Ram now had an elder sister figure he always wanted.
Before logging out he quickly went through his calendar for tomorrow. He paused and blinked. The following day was Priya’s birthday! He had added that and the important dates of all of Priya’s family to his calendar just within a week of the wedding. He didn’t want to disappoint his in-laws in any way.
He quickly logged out and powered off his system. Wearing his coat he walked out of his office briskly. He had to meet Sara at all costs now.
Luckily, he met her just outside. She was all set to leave. Usually Priya wrapped up.
“Sara…” He called. She didn’t prefer him addressing her with a Di. She was only eight months elder to him.
“Hey, Ram" She stated with a
mischievous smile.
Ram chuckled at her greeting.
“Tomorrow is Priya’s birthday,”
“you know?” She asked surprised.
“Yeah. What should I gift her?”
Sara folded her arms. “I thought you said Priya was becoming easier to understand.” She said teasingly.
“I was… okay, my bad. Priya naa, is like a bhool-bhulaiyaan usse naa koi nahi samaj sakta. Andar kuch aur Bahar kuch… Matlab insaan ko confuse karke chod deti hai. Please bataao naa.”
Sara smiled. “Priya ko birthday celebrate karna pasand nahi hai. In fact iss liye hum ek din pehle hi celebration kar late hain. Bas paanch minute pehle hi mumma, Sandy, Akki aur Shivi ghar ke liye nikle hai.”
“Mujhe bhi bulaa lete. Issi bahaane cupcake toh mil jaata khaane ko.”
Sara smiled. “We were going to call you. Lekin Priya is Priya, ussne mana kar diya. Mr. Kapoor ko disturb karne ki koi zarurat nahi hai. Bahut kaam hota hai unko.” She mimicked Priya.
Ram smiled and then wore a frowned again. “Birthday kaise …nahi pasand? I mean… mein toh Pura saal apne birthday kaa wait karta hoon.”
“Priya toh aisi hi hai.” Sara smiled.
“Koi nahi. Gift bhi nahi pasand?”
“Try karke dekh lo..” Sara said with mischief in her smile.
“Haan, kyun nahi. Zyaada se zyaada mujhe pe hi barse gii.” Ram muttered.
Sara laughed. “acha, tum figure out kar Lena. Mujhe late ho raha hai.”
“Main driver ko bol deta hoon wo..”
“Not necessary Ram. Cab is here. Thank you!”
“Bye!”
“Bye!” She waved and walked away.
Ram took a deep breath. “Priya ko apna birthday celebrate karna pasand kyun nahi hai?” He murmured to himself.
---------
“Hi,” Ram said sitting on the stool while Priya was packing a set of cupcakes.
She looked up at him. “Aap?”
“Hmm, main. Kyun, koi aur aane waala thaa?” He raised an eyebrow with a smile.
She rolled her eyes and focused on packing the box. “last order hai, ten minutes mein the guy should come to pick this up.”
“Okay,” Ram said his gaze stuck on the chocolate cup cake that hadn’t been iced yet. He tapped his fingers on the counter. Would she know if he picked one?
He looked at her carefully. There were a lot of cupcakes to be packed. She was hurrying as well. His fingers moved across the counter to towards the cupcake.
“Sochna bhi mat!” She said without looking up. She had caught his gaze on the cupcake.
“Yaar, itna chota sa cup cake hai. Uss pe icing bhi nahi hai.” He muttered tapping his fingers on the counter impatiently.
Priya held back her smile. He would give completion to a cute five year old. She left the box she was packing, picked up the tray of cupcakes that he had his eyes on. Moved to the back counter. She plated one and poured chocolate sauce on it. Placing a small spoon on the side, she turned to the front counter and placed the plate before him.
“Insaano ki Tarah khaa sakte hain,” saying that she moved to the side to resume her work.
Ram had a bright smile on his face. He picked up the plate and shifted to the side stool so that he was across the counter from her.
“How was your day?” He asked feasting on the treat.
She looked up at him and then back down. “Same old.”
“You didn’t invite me to your pre birthday celebration.” He accused.
“How did you know?”
“I have my sources.” He gave her a toothed smile that had chocolate stains.
“I thought you’d be busy. Anyways I don’t like celebrating birthdays. Hum kya chotte bacche hain?”
“Itne buddhe bhi toh nahi hoye naa,” He countered.
She narrowed her eyes at him.
Ram swallowed. “cake?” He offered her a bite of his cupcake on the spoon.
“No, thanks! I have had enough sugar for the day.”
“You should increase you appetite for sugar. Usse naa sweetness aayegi. Look how sweet I am.”
Priya gave him a look and he looked away and kept his focus on the treat in his plate.
Minutes passed. Priya sat on a stool across from the counter. She had called the guy who had ordered one hundred and fifty cupcakes. He said he was stuck in traffic due to rain and would reach in some time.
“Aap ghar jaa sakte hain, main auto le lungi.” She said, seeing him restless.
“No, I will wait. Waise… tumhe apna birthday celebrate karna pasand kyun nahi hai?”
“Bas nahi pasand.” She muttered and looked down at the daily record book, doing her calculations.
“two thousand and thirty two,” He said looking at the book.
“Maths aati hai mujhe,” she said writing down the exact number.
“Thodi slow ho,” He commented, cautiously.
She gazed at him. Contemplating for a bit, she passed the book to him.
He took the pen from her and began adding up the figures. “I love math.” He said.
She watched him as he passionately kept adding the numbers. No doubt he was fast.
“Is it to do with your father?” He asked gathering some courage.
Priya stiffened.
He gazed up at her.
“I don’t want to talk about this.” She snapped and walked away to find some work to take care of.
Ram sat quietly and went about checking the older records after he completed the present day’s add up.
Nearly half an hour later they were in the car, on their way to home.
“I am sorry, I snapped.” She said softly. A strange silence had fallen between them. She realized that she didn’t like it when Ram was awfully quiet.
“It’s okay,” He said, wondering if he was crossing lines.
“He wanted a son but I was born. All I can remember about my childhood is Mr. Sood bad mouthing my mother.”
Ram looked at her, she refused to even give him one look as she spoke. There was pain behind those words.
“Har birthday par Maa ko sunna padta thaa… Mr. Sood se aur unki Maa se. Mujhe bahut gussa aata thaa…. Ab tak aata hai is baat par. Birthday issliye mujhe pasand nahi hai.”
“I am sorry,” He said. She just kept looking out of the window. He placed his hand on hers.
Priya’s eyes pricked with tears. She felt his hand on hers. But she didn’t have the courage to let him look at her like that.
He slowly held her hand.
She didn’t say anything or look at him but she appreciated his compassion.
