Indian TV's favourite on-screen jodi Sakshi Tanwar and Ram Kapoor are back with ALT Balaji's web series Karrle Tu Bhi Mohabbat. The show premiered on April 16 and the first five episodes are free (full episodes are available for Rs 60 per month).
The story of the web series revolves around two starkly opposite individuals who are brought together by fate. The guy is a Bollywood actor, who was once a superstar but now his career is going downhill, while the girl happens to be a de-addiction counsellor. The web series will give you a feel of watching Bade Achhe Lagte Hai, but sans their over-indulging families.
Here are few things that we liked about Karrle Tu Bhi Mohabbat:
The actress who has wowed us with her performance in Amir Khan starrer Dangal is amazing as Tripura Sundari Nagrajan. Yes, that's her full name. She has de-addicted 124 people till now and Karan Khanna (played by Ram Kapoor) is her 125th case. According to her cousin, her professional success rate might be 100 per cent but her personal life's success rate is zero. She leads not so happening and lonely life with a fixed routine that hasn't experienced any change over the years.
Ram Kapoor plays a larger than life character of Karan Khanna, whose films have been bombing in the box office for the last three years. Nowadays, all that he is offered are commercials of oil and underwear. Ram suffers from alcoholism and his constant failures has turned alcohol into his best friend and his friends into enemies. Ram's quite a natural as Karan Khanna, the Bollywood actor, who once was at the peak of his career and now can't fathom the fact that his career is going downhill.
3. Tripura and Karan's chemistry
In an interview Sakshi said that she is quite opposite Ram and that is what works in their favour. And we couldn't agree more. Both Tripura and Karan are poles apart but what makes them similar is their loneliness. Their first meeting is quite an event, as both of them share a mutual dislike for each other. But they reach truce and start with the de-addiction program. It's fun watching their banters. Let's see how Karan gives Tripura the wings to fly while Tripura provides him with the roots.
The series has been conceptualised by Ekta Kapoor and if the series reminds you of Bade Achhe Lagte Hai, then blame it on Muzammil Desai, director of the series; who was also the director of Bade Achhe Lagte Hai. The story is interesting, as it involves a commoner and a former superstar, and how they find solace in each other's company. If it would have been a daily soap, the story that progressed from first meeting to a Mahabaleshwar trip in three episode, would have taken at least three months.
Though the leads are quite lonely in their lives but still they have a shoulder to cry on. While Kavi Shahstri as Vishal plays a good friend to Karan, Tanvi Vyas is good as Sherry - Tripura's flatmate and cousin who keeps pushing her to enjoy life. None of them are over the top and is quite a relief than the usual loudmouth scheming relatives in daily soaps.
Ram Kapoor and Sakshi Tanwar set a benchmark for romance with Bade Achche Lagte Hai. The audience expected them to create the same magic with Karle Tu Bhi Mohabbat but the first episode was rather disappointing. While the show starts off really slow and bores you, it picks up pace from the second episode. And you would actually want to watch the second episode because there is this expectation from these two to create the spark. The first episode is extremely slow and basically just an introduction of the two characters. Ram Kapoor plays a actor, Karan Khanna, who used to be a superstar but has lost his stardom.
He is also an alcohol addict who drowns his sorrows, insecurities and failures in alcohol. Sakshi Tanwar plays the role of a de-addiction specialist who has a rather monotonous life that only involves only her work. She is also quite uptight and has OCD. It starts in a very Bade Achche Lagte Hai way. The two hate each other when they meet but eventually make peace with each other and even fall in love. While the plot and concept is kind of similar to their previous show, it will gradually get interesting. What it's about
Karrle Tu Bhi Mohabbat is a love story of two middle-aged people who eventually fall in love with each other and make each other better human beings. Though it starts off on a dry note, the show gets more interesting with Ram Kapoor's witty lines. You'll get nostalgic seeing these two back onscreen with each other and will definitely want to watch their love grow.
What's Hot
Ram and Sakshi's chemistry is worth a watch. I think their equation with each other in the series will surely teach you a thing or two about relationships and how imperfectly perfectly two people can be for each other.
What's Not
We wish there wasn't so many similarities between this and Bade Achche Lagte Hai. Poor girl and rich boy hate each other and eventually fall in love with each other despite their differences. We wish they a newer concept with such a brilliant cast.
Verdict
Watch it if you're a fan of Ram Kapoor and Sakshi Tanwar's pairing. But compared to the other web series that Ekta Kapoor launched recently, you can give this a skip.
