PART 2

Ram Kapoor's office

Ram Kapoor pacing up and down like a caged tiger.. he is very annoyed and to stop his anger getting the better of him, he fingers a well worn paper that he carries like a talisman with him. It is an action that he is not even aware of performing and the minute he realises that he is touching that paper again he jerks his hand back and starts pacing all over again.

It was getting late and the people who were supposed to meet him for lunch had not yet arrived. What did they think by making him wait… he who waited for none but his…

Now why was he thinking about her? The sunlight striking the photograph came back to his memory and he shook his head in dismay. Only Priya could do this to him. It was a whole 7 months since she had left him – after having broken his heart and insisting that she wanted half of his property – she had left him without so much as a goodbye!!

To this day he kept wondering what had happened to change his life so much.

He still remembered seeing his real mom Krishna Kapoor when he went to find out who Jayesh Karekar was and coming home and confronting Priya about it. He remembered his step mother Niharika coming into the room when he and Priya were arguing and telling him that Priya and Krishna Kapoor were playing with him with the hope of taking away half his property and they were using this Jayesh as a tool to blackmail her because he was someone who had known her prior to her marriage to his father. Even before he could make any sense out of what Priya was telling and Niharika's screaming, Priya asked him who he would believe- her or his step mom. Before he could reply, niharika had stepped in and said "Of course ME!!!". He remembered telling "Haan Maa, lekin" and she had said "See Priya, Ram is my son. He will believe only me."

After those words his life seemed to move in ultra motion. Priya turned to see him – her eyes full of tears and he stood open mouthed as his step mom told her – "I think you have your answer. Why don't you leave now and stop all this tamasha." Priya kept looking at him and waiting for him to say something but all he could do was stare as nothing seemed to cross his mind but the fact that Priya had met with his real mother despite his having warned her not to and she having promised him that she would not. He asked her "WHY?" He till date remembered and felt guilty about the look of shock and grief that filled her tear laden eyes even as she stepped back and turned around to leave the room and his life.

That was the last he had seen of her. Within 3 weeks she had mailed him the divorce papers and requested him to sign them without any delay. She had made it very clear that all she had required was his signature and she did not want any alimony – in any form. She had also mailed a hand written letter to him to Neha and Vikram's home and told him her version of whatever had transpired. From the moment that letter had arrived, his entire outlook towards life had altered and today he was left with nothing- no love, no family, no happiness and no future – until he took a hard look at his life and so called family and drew the right conclusions – at least this time.

"Sir, the representatives of the Pharmaceutical company have arrived and want to meet you to apologize for their late coming." " Huh" said Ram and asked her to send them after a few minutes – to give himself some time to collect his thoughts and feelings together. Once he got involved in the business of making this company even better, he was able to push the memories of Priya to the back of his mind and proceed as if nothing was wrong in his life. These meetings and conferences were the only panacea he had left as he worked and tried to set right all the wrongs that had been committed by him in the name of misplaced love.

As teh door opened to let the reps in, he once again felt for the paper in his suit pocket and got down to laying the new foundation to a life that he hoped would one day be filled with hope, laughter and happiness.
