Guess I'm late to this debate as well...but just felt like adding my two cents. First off, I'm not Indian nor am I Hindu...but I am aware of Indian culture and values. I don't know if we're losing our culture with such an open portrayal of consummation (after all, it is shown in Hindi movies all the time!!!) ...But I do feel that it makes the show extremely awkward to watch with the whole family! Television is meant for entertainment...so such scenes do upset me, especially if this is a show that I've been watching with my family for so long.
That's about it...the culture thing I don't wanna comment on...but I do feel that such scenes often take away from the essence of the show :s
