The lion growling thing really irritated me yesterday. For one thing, that dadi is not intimidating in the least. She looks like a very annoying woman who likes to slap people, but she's not scary. I mean, she looks about two feet tall!

For another, what was with the instant animosity between the two grandmothers and the "clans"?? When did this turn into some fight? In most families, Punjabi or not, common courtesy dictates that you approach new people with politeness and respect, and try to keep an open enough mind not to HATE them in the very first sighting. Since the rishta is already done, why were they so haughty? It was like that scene in Kal Ho Na Ho just before the Mahi Ve song, except without any humour, class, dignity or lightness.

And I simply have to ask this question - is everyone blind?? How are these people looking at Priya and calling her ugly? She's not jaw-droppingly supermodel-ish, granted. But seriously, unattractive? 🤔 Even if I weren't a Sakshi/Priya fan I could see that she has a charming face. How shallow are these grandmothers anyway? One doesn't like Priya because she is average and too skinny; the other doesn't like Ram because he is "too fat"...but both like Karthik and Nuts. I thought the older generation was the propagator of 'inner beauty' etc but it seems they are the most discriminating. (Granted, there are people like this in real life).

And finally, this sobha rasam - THIS is why Naani wanted to do this rasam? So she could ask randomly obscure questions about food and cooking and business?!! THIS is supposed to determine how well their relationship will be? THIS was the point of a made-up rasam, Ekta? So you could get Ram to say "it's the thought that counts" and Priya could look at him with rapture and the tune which is becoming increasingly annoying could be played yet again? Really? Really?!!!!!
Sigh. I despair. What is the point of all this filler. I couldn't care less about who the hell Apeksha is and what the hell she wants. I couldn't care less about Sid and his random leering of Ayesha, setting up the obvious plot point of getting yet another set of siblings from the same family married (is this a form of inbreeding? Or the beginnings of it anyway?). I couldn't care less about daadi, naani, maama, lassi, chicken (unless I'm eating it!), and all the awful bg music. It's annoying to hear BALH bg played over and over again, everyone knows I hate the Kya Kehna track and as for Jo Bole So Nihaal...this is nothing new for EK, playing religious shloks and mantras as bg scores, but at least before it wasn't used as an accompaniment to some lame-ass dancing...really. All I want to see is the world that we were promised in the promos. I want to see Ram and Priya get married and learn to live and love. All other distractions can go take a hike, and soon, because otherwise I'll be forced to switch off completely. 9 August cannot come fast enough.

As a Punjabi, with equal respect for Hindu and Sikhs, all TV serials annoy me with Punjabi portrayals. What is shocking is that Jeetendra, Ekta's Dad, was born in Amritsar, according to Wikipedia. Anyways, here are my beefs:
- While it doesn't matter what religion one is, at least show the proper portrayal of how they would be. If they are Sikh, there wouldn't be all this Kundli stuff. If they are Hindu, then why would Daadi greet them with "Sat Sri Akal". Now, Hindu's and Sikhs greet each other with "Namaste and Sat Sri Akal" all the time, but hey show the proper traditions.
- Even in Kis Desh Hai Mera Dil, they always showed the Junejas saying "Wahe Guru", yet never once were they shown in a Gurudwara--they all did Havans. While Sikhs adn Hindus have mutual respect and adoration for each other, please show them following their traditions.
- Punjab is economically more diverse and most people there are over-fashionable, more so than Indore.
- Not everyone speaks with an accent.

All serials go OTT and generalize this way.
The way they show Gujjus talk..Dayaben OMG she is so irritating. Also Krishnaben Khakhrawala. how Gandhis are shown in RMJ
How Kande Pohe is the only thing Maharashtrians eat PR
I agree on OTT punjabi shown in BALH
Tooo much generalization is done on serials..
They need to do due research b4 making a show on particular region.

Every culture has their own stereotypes protrayed on tv. Not just Punajbi's. I'm Punjabi and Im fine with that, but Im also a sikh... And I feel that when you mesh religion into it... Thats what messes things up. As long its not disrepectful Im fine with it. But if you are portraying a religion/culture on tv then do the research. One thing that annoys me in particular is when a family is shown to be Punjabi Sikh and they show the wedding being done Hindu style.SOOO gets to me :/

Hey All,

After testing my patience for the non-sense shown in the name of Punjabi's, I was forced to write few words in an attempt to relieve some of the annoyance.

Can somebody tell Ekta'ji' that Punjabi's are loud but "not" rude. And for god sake Amritsar is not a village, most of the people in that city are well educated.

The way they talk, its not how people talk in Punjab/Amritsar.

And the most annoying is trying to force religious wording as background score for partying.
"Jo Bole So Nihaal" is not a song. Please have a check on what you use.

And Punjabi's dont go ask for Lassi wherever they go.

I know I might be getting bit personal here, maybe coz of my background.

But it just puts me off .

I can see your point but the thing is that the show is abruptly putting all the prejudged ideas we have on punjabis people so it's more obvious than normal. I don't see what is wrong with that.
And i didn't see anyone in the punjabis character being represented as rude, not even the daddi! If we pay attention she didn't say anything that one could call RUDE.
And the lassi thing is just comic to me, there is nothing seriously like conveying a BAD message about punjab people.

My opinion :)
