NDTV's new channel Imagine kicked off its launch with this much talked about show. The four male and female TV actors are pathetic singers. While Sumeet Tandon is okay, Aman Varma, Apurva Agnihotri and Manish Goyal, should not be allowed to even sing in bathrooms, forget the small screen. As for the ladies, all their energies seemed to be so focused on their heavy make-up and garish outfits, they seem to be acting more and singing less. Of the lot, Narayani Shastri is not too bad but when Juhi Parmar, Divyanka Tripathi and Mouni Roy, you just have to watch the co-hosts face. While Simi tries hard to maintain a sugary faade, the expressions on Karan's face vary from amusement to boredom to a subtle smirk. And yet, both these seasoned pros say the most politically correct things — the huge pay packets they are getting are certainly responsible for that. Yet another new soap launched this week on Sony, Babul Ka Angan Chootey Na, which is replete with clichs. The family comprises three daughters and one son. The parents want their daughters to 'settle down' so that their son can look after them. And of course, the eldest daughter, who is the lead star, is a paragon of virtue while the others are portrayed as being selfish only because they want to pursue their interests. Aastha Choudhary, who plays Aastha has just one serial to her credit but stands out in this tear-jearker. Considering how expressionless the current crop of young actors are, this lady is a good find. It's a pity that her talent will be portrayed through a regressive role, where she will obviously suffer all kinds of humiliations to endear herself to the viewers. No matter how many soaps are launched on television, the plot pretty much remains the same. And this will continue to happen, till discerning viewers put their foot down and stop watching such regressive episodes that do more harm than good to womankind. www.deccan.com |
