I shall explain the difference between name, patronym/matronym, terranym and epithet here.

Name is a person's given name, given in namkaran samsakara.

For Pandu's second son it was Bhimasena

For Pandu's third son it was Arjuna

For their wife it was Krishnaa

Patronym means the title 'son of Mr'

Matronym means the title 'son of Mrs'

Epithet means a title given to a person on their unique ability/ something that they are famous for

For Pandu's all sons it was Pandava which means son of Pandu

For Pandu's 3 sons from his first wife Pritha, it was Partha.

So Yudhishtir Bhima and Arjun were Pandav as well as Parth. They were also called Kounteya because Pritha's father's name was Kuntibhoj so she was formally addressed as Kunti too. But her name was Pritha

While Nakul and Sahadev were Pandav and madreya. Epic does not Madri's given name

So Patronymn and Matronym are like surnames that we have today.

Arjun is the name Parth is surname. And Bhima also has the same surname because he has the same mother

Arjun is not the only Partha Bhimasena and Yudhishtir are also Partha. Please read the epic specially war Parva for examples

Arjun had many epithets or titles unique for him like Vijaya Phalguna Dhananjaya Jishnu etx

similarly Bhima had Vikrodara because he had a lean belly like a wolf. Vikr means wolf udara mean belly.

We still follow this naming system in Hinduism during wedding yagnopavita etc.

The marriage ritual for a bride and groom begins with their introduction just like in Mahabharata times.

Gita is one section of one chapter of Mahabharata. It is not the entire Mahabharata.

There are several other places where Bhima and Yudhishtir are also called Partha. I repeat it is not sole copyright of Arjun

And Partha is a derivative it has no meaning in itself. Just like Pandava as a word does not mean anything but the root word Pandu means pale

Similarly Partha does not mean anything not even archery but it's root word Pritha means Large. Male of the root word is Prithu that also means large.

I repeat Partha has nothing to do with archery or mace or any other weapon.

Sanskrit has several such words.

Karna had title vaikartana which is a derivative that does not mean anything on its own but is used for son of Vikartana . Vikartana means the one who cuts away darkness. It is the name of Sun

So Suryaputra is called Vaikartana. Son of Vikartana

Another is vAAsudeva which is a title used for Krishna this word is a derivative and has no meaning but the root word Vasudeva means lord of wealth

Interestingly, Krishna's given name was not Krishna. Arjuna's also not.

I'm not sure if Vyasa's was, or was it also an epithet added on because he was dark?

Parthas mean who are son of pritha

Second parth mean one who never miss target

Arjun was called as parth when we called Arjun as parth so here meaning of parth become totally different

Means if we called arjun as parth it not only mean Arjun as son of pritha but here calling Arjun, a,parth mean one who never miss target

And Arjun never miss focus that is why he is called as, parth

we see parents named their named son as parth but does not mean if any parent name their son as parth that son is son of pritha .or derived word of pritha Here parth mean one who remain focus

Here bheem may also be called as parth but I don't think it was, particular name of bheem. It was his common name

Nobody address bhim particular as parth

I

Particularly bheem refer as son of pritha, son of pandu vikoradara and bheem

Like ajatshatru is distinct name of yudhistar. In same way parth is also distinct name of arjun

But yes if any want to talk about only kunti three son at a time , not want to talk about maadri two son . Nakul sehdev Then three son yudhistar bheem arjun collectively called as parthas because it is not possible take separate name of yudhistar bheem arjun at a time . When any body talk about only yudhistar, arjun and bheem they are refer as parthas only not as pandavas because nakul and sehdev are also pandavas

And if anyone want to talk about only nakul and sehdev both are collectively called as maadraas

And if anyone talk about 5 brother then it is called as pandavas because it is not possible to call parthas and maadras every time

And in text most of time it is written all three yudhistar , bheem and arjun collectively as parthas is ( but no one call yudhistar, bheem seperately called as parth except arjun who was called parth seperately and collectively too)

In mahabharat text it is only arjun who was refer as parth most of time

MS. Surabhi. I don't know if you know Sanskrit or not

I do

For the final time. The word Parth has no connection with archery or target or focus etc.

I am not going to repeat it again

In no way whatsoever does Parth have any connection with Dhanurvidya or lakshya bhedan or ekagrata

Literally meaning of parth is one who never miss target

I think u should check meaning of parth and should read text properly

U should read virat parv where it arjun refer as parth

In dron parv it arjun most of time call as parth

Hardly anyone call yudhistar and bheem as parth

Yudhistar mostly refer as son of dharmraaaj,

And bheem mostly refer as vikoradara

You don't know Sanskrit. You will not listen to someone who knows Sanskrit. You will not open a freely available Sanskrit dictionary to see but see some random baby naming website.

I think I am stupid one here wasting my time to explain something to you.

But guess what I am stopping my stupidity right now
