I just wanted to paste something worth reading here which really helped me change my thinking. It's called 90/10 principle by Stephen Covey (Management Guru)

He says :

10% of life is made up of what happens to you. 90% of life is decided by how you react. What does this mean?

We really have no control over 10% of what happens to us. We cannot stop the car from breaking down. The plane will be late arriving, which throws our whole schedule off. A driver may cut us off in traffic. We have no control over this 10%. The other 90% is different. You determine the other 90%.

How? By your reaction. You cannot control a red light, but you can control your reaction. Don't let people fool you; YOU can control how you react.

Let's use an example.

You are eating breakfast with your family. Your daughter knocks over a cup of coffee onto your business shirt. You have no control over what just what happened. What happens when the next will be determined by how you react. You curse. You harshly scold your daughter for knocking the cup over.

She breaks down in tears. After scolding her, you turn to your spouse and criticize her for placing the cup too close to the edge of the table. A short verbal battle follows. You storm upstairs and change your shirt. Back downstairs, you find your daughter has been too busy crying to finish breakfast and get ready for school. She misses the bus. Your spouse must leave immediately for work.

You rush to the car and drive your daughter to school. Because you are late, you drive 40 miles an hour in a 30 mph speed limit. After a 15-minute delay and throwing Rs. 200/- traffic fine away, you arrive at school. Your daughter runs into the building without saying goodbye. After arriving at the office 20 minutes late, you find you forgot your briefcase. Your day has started terrible. As it continues, it seems to get worse and worse. You look forward to coming home, When you arrive home, you find small wedge in your relationship with your spouse and daughter.

Why? Because of how you reacted in the morning. Why did you have a bad day?

A) Did the coffee cause it?

B) Did your daughter cause it?

C) Did the policeman cause it?

D) Did you cause it?

The answer is "D".

You had no control over what happened with the coffee.

How you reacted in those 5 seconds is what caused your bad day. Here is what could have and should have happened.

Coffee splashes over you. Your daughter is about to cry. You gently say, "It's ok honey, you just need, to be more careful next time". Grabbing a towel you rush upstairs. After grabbing a new shirt and your briefcase, you come back down in time to look through the window and see your child getting on the bus. She turns and waves. You arrive 5 minutes early and cheerfully greet the staff. Your boss comments on how good the day you are having.

Notice the difference?

Two different scenarios. Both started the same. Both ended different.

Why? Because of how you REACTED.

You really do not have any control over 10% of what happens. The other 90% was determined by your reaction.

Here are some ways to apply the 90/10 principle.

If someone says something negative about you, don't be a sponge. Let the attack roll off like water on glass. You don't have to let the negative comment affect you! React properly and it will not ruin your day. A wrong reaction could result in losing a friend, being fired, getting stressed out etc.

Yo! Kiranmayi 😉

I like thw e way you are answering... 👏

What was it about astitva that attracted you to it?

Do you identify with any of the characters in it? If so, then who and why...

Are there any topics you are passionate about? That you would like to discuss?

The Stephen Covey quote above was very nice...it makes so much sense, and yet to actually do this sort of stuff would mean so much happier lives for so many of us.....do u have any more such anecdaotes? 😊

If you do come to London, and need any info about the place, then do drop me a line and I will try and assist...it's such a BIG place, prob wont bump into u, but do let me know if i can do anything... 😛

cheers

Hi Kiran, Good to be able to know you better! So, do you thoroughly enjoy work? I know you said work gives you satisfaction - but what I mean is when you wake up in the morning, do you look forward to going to work?? Thats is something I look forward to and was hence curious to know what your feelings are on that..

Are you closer to your mom or dad? Whom do you share things with more freely?

Do you get time to read? What are your favourite books (Sorry if anything was repeated, I may just have missed out on reading something)?

Kiran,
Thanks for telling me that Chukka means star.. I only knew nakshatram. I have not been to Jayanagar in 11 years 😭 .. there was no chat joint there. There was Dosa camp, right outside of NIIT.
It has been wonderful to know you. Please keep in touch via PMs. We used to live in Domlur, close to Indira Nagar..used to walk down to Indira Nagar 2nd phase, since that was were the bus 131 would start 😊
How do you trave to your office.. 28 kms is really far.
But Indira Nagar has always been a nice area and the defence colony had huge houses...

What was it about astitva that attracted you to it? The storyline, Dr.simran and the timings 😆

Do you identify with any of the characters in it? If so, then who and why... Not 100% but I also think stupid some times like Dr.Simran, i.e, my worries for unnecessary things, waiting for the other person to take initiative in anything, not to be open in discussion for any misunderstanding😕. (Simran fans might not agree😒). On the positive side...able to forgive everyone but not forget. 😎

Are there any topics you are passionate about? That you would like to discuss? I will think and let you know before my thread ends.

The Stephen Covey quote above was very nice...it makes so much sense, and yet to actually do this sort of stuff would mean so much happier lives for so many of us.....do u have any more such anecdaotes? 😊 Yes, I do agree. Cannot apply this everywhere. But we can try to apply where ever possible. 😉

If you do come to London, and need any info about the place, then do drop me a line and I will try and assist...it's such a BIG place, prob wont bump into u, but do let me know if i can do anything... 😛 Sure. I will. Thanks a lot, in advance!!!

Thats is something I look forward to and was hence curious to know what your feelings are on that.. hmm...sometimes I look forward to when ever I have a demo or some thing challenging. As I work in a support environment, I cannot expect challenges all the time. I get bored very easily. Some times I get so bored and get weird thoughts like I should go to some place where I don't know anyone 😆. I will be forced to wake up early in the morning😭. I don't look forward to go to work at that time at all. Especially on Mondays. But the other corner, on Fridays..I will be enthusias to get up and go to work....just that it's weekend. 😆

Are you closer to your mom or dad? Whom do you share things with more freely? I'm very very close to my mom. She is like a friend to me. I call her everyday. I'm close to my dad also..but more comfortbale with mom.

Do you get time to read? What are your favourite books (Sorry if anything was repeated, I may just have missed out on reading something)? I read everything from Mills&Boon to Women's era. I read two books by Nicholas Sparks recently. Again..I read only when I finish my house cleaning work at home. Used to read a lot before marriage but just got busy now.
