I watched 11th and 12th episodes.
My take.

I am not saying it as a fan of second lead or anything, but from the portrayal of Jung's character in the show (I haven't read the webtoon and have no idea about his character) he comes across as a PSYCHOPATH. I wouldn't have minded his character much had he been the second lead but him being the male lead and him always being shown in the NEGATIVE LIGHT troubles me. It's not like I don't like dark characters. My favourite characters have been dark and psycho only (RK in Madhubala and Young Do in Heirs), but there was certain charm about them and the makers always tried to justify their acts.

In this show, however much I try, I cannot get myself to like Jung even a little bit. His character is too bland. I get that he has issues but they aren't exploring his character at all. The reason why I love InHo more is that I can relate to his character. Despite the fact that I hate what he said about Jung in the fbs, I get that he said because he did not want Jung to have another friend and that he was blunt with his words. Even though I hate InHo for that, I still can't get myself to hate him. While Jung's actions are totally creepy. He could have confronted InHo and sorted things out, but he chose a very dangerous and sickening way of dealing with him. He framed him, got him beaten up and then was absolutely unapologetic about it. The way he ignored those guys beating InHo up was actually sickening to the core. That is not how the hero should be. Moreover in his speech to Seol towards the end, he played a victim. Never confessed that what he did was wrong and Seol accepting him like that was even more frightening.

Sorry to say but the writers have failed to sell their male lead to the majority of viewers who haven't read the webtoon. All the neutral people I come across online are rooting for InHo. The writers should show Jung's side of the story more. They should make us root for him and not make us feel like he got the girl because he was the main lead -_-

This is one of the things that I love so much about CITT, the show actually wants us to feel uncomfortable about Jung's actions. Unlike most other A-hole chaebol heroes out there, he doesn't get a pass, he gets judged for his actions by the audience and disliked, which is the case for many.😆 Also, interestingly unlike heroines from those shows where they fall for the hero despite their horrid attitude towards them, Seol actually fell for Jung because how well he treats her. Their relationship is still problematic as eff though.😆

I agree about them not exploring Jung's character enough. Hopefully they are saving everything for the last 4 eps. Not only Jung even Inha needs development. After the last 2 eps she has become my fav Baek sibling, not sure how.😆

Yeah I know that is a different thing here and I truly appreciate it 😆 There have been times when I have shipped villains badly with the heroine or vice versa and trust me they were badass villains who were judged😆 Eg. In My Gf is a Gumiho, I liked that villain dude more and wanted Gumiho to end up with him😆😆 But here, I don't know what the problem is, but the makers have failed to sell Jung to me. I keep thinking that in future if he feels betrayed by Seol somehow, the same way he felt betrayed by InHo, he will end up hurting her badly, both physically and mentally

I hope so too. I badly want to like Jung but I just don't feel any connection. In other shows where I have had second lead syndrome (R88 and School 2015), I didn't mind heroine ending up with male leads also, but here I mind😆😆 inHa is amazing, agree😆😆

Did you guys hear about the controversy surrounding the show?

Fans were raging abut Yoo Jung's decreased screentime and how the show was differing so much from the webtoon and going downhill. So Soonkki the webtoon writer finally responded to all the complains. She said that she got the script for only upto ep 6 and then they cut off contact with her, unlike what they led us to believe that they were working closely with the original writer. No wonder the 2nd half of the show felt so different, it has been on a downward slide for me since ep 9.

And Park Hae-jin shot many important Jung scenes (which could have shed light on his character) but they were cut from the final broadcast and extra Inho scenes were added. I heard a theory that this was because TvN wants to promote Seo Kang-joon coz he is starring an upcoming show on the channel.

So it all finally makes sense, why the show lately felt like going nowhere, focusing less and less on Jung and Seol.

Korean and Chinese fans are h*lla pissed at the production, as they should be. I am glad all this came out. For once I'm happy about the netizens complaining so much. I feel so sorry for the actors and just hope that SKJ doesn't get any hate. It's not his fault that they focused so much on him, the 2nd lead rather than the male lead PHJ. Poor PHJ, all his hardwork is being wasted. Some fan actually counted the amount of screentime he had this week and it was a total of 18 or so minutes from combining both Ep 13 and 14.😭 18 minutes from a total of 2+ hours for the male lead? WTH show??

This is why I am always afraid to watch an ongoing show. They keep finding new ways to screw over a perfectly good show. Fingers crossed the finale manages to satisfy those of us who have loved this show so far.

Totally agree with you.Jung is the main lead but with the amount of screen time seems like In Ho is the lead. I understand that SKJ is the trend now but still they should know that PHJ has worked hard for this character and he is the lead. I wouldn't have mind if In Ho had more scenes but the problem is he is getting more scenes than Jung.I hope the last 2 episodes will be better and PHJ doesn't work with this PD again.

I found out about this today after reading Park Hae Jin's interview.I thought this was one show that wouldn't get messed up in any way because the shooting was completed over a month ago. Who would have imagined something like this would happen. I am glad that both the webtoon writer and PHJ spoke up, otherwise we would have never known what really happened.

I feel so sad for PHJ. To be cast and promoted as the male lead of a show and then have your scenes edited out must feel so awful. Even if Jung's character goes missing from the webtoon for a long time, you have to do things differently in a 16 epi drama adaptation. They edited out relevant scenes that would make Jung's POV clear to the audience. For a male lead to have just 18 minutes of screen time in total for two episodes combined is just shocking.😲 They basically relegated him to a supporting character in the show. It's not like it was in the original script to give him less screen time. They shot many scenes with him and never aired them...so we never got to see Jung's side of story. So it's not just PHJ, the fans were cheated as well.

And I also read that they sold the show at a record price in China because PHJ is the lead and he's super popular there. So basically they just used him. It was so saddening to read him say that he can't trust anyone anymore.

And look at the scenes they gave to Inho. So much filler...like making puppy eyes at Seol, throwing the trash, doing push ups, walking aimlessly in the streets, when they could have used the time to develop his relationship with his sister! And have reduced Seol, the central character to the object of Inho's manpain and crush. She no longer feels like the central 'point of view' character.

The showrunners have done a huge disservice to all three of their main characters.

From what I'm hearing, they didn't just edit his important scenes, but they also had SKJ reshoot some of PHJ's scenes..as in scenes which had Jung were re-filmed, to have Inho instead. Like the scenes in which Inho put ointment on Seol's face after her fight with Minsoo, and the recent scene where Inho came to Seol's rescue when Sangchul raised his hand on her. In the webtoon these 2 scenes belonged to Jung but the show had Inho, but now I hear PHJ actually shot those scenes, but they broadcast the Inho versions.

None of this makes any sense.😕

Some good news...Chinese streaming site Youku is asking for the deleted scenes of PHJ.😃 Makes sense coz the Chinese netizens are very angry at the turn the show has taken and part of the reason the show was sold to China for such a high price was PHJ's popularity there. I am not optimistic about the ending but I am a little about getting to see all the deleted footage eventually. Yay for Chinese money!!😆

Also check this guys. Parody of Cheese in the Trap - Gogi (meat) in the Trap on SNL Korea.🤣

Edit: They're gonna air an extended special with all the deleted scenes after the finale airs.

This is like them throwing a consolation prize at us after screwing us, the story and the actors.

I hated the ending. For a drama that is supposed to be on how Jung/Seol heal each other & work through the relationship together, he just left?!? And we end with a freaking flashback? W*F. If they wanted Jung/Seol to break up at the end, they should have at least given better closure to them, rather than giving us closure with the hope that Jung may be reformed & that these 2 may have a future together. The whole process of Jung reforming was crucial & they just left it to our imagination. WHAT WAS THE POINT OF THIS DRAMA then?
How could this drama go from being so fantastic & revolutionary in the first half to being so bad in the second half. Its like I was watching 2 different dramas.
Seriously DISAPPOINTED.

The drama's title is so apt. Cheese in the Trap indeed. We went in for the cheese, but instead got trapped till the horrible/bitter end.
