|| CHAPTER III ||
Few days have passed. Arjun and Veer never had that conversation, nor that Veer expected it to happen, but Arjun has decided this time. He promised himself that, he is going to let Veer live his life freely like a normal kid. He is not going to hold him back.
Soon the day came and all the ETF members flew to Goa. Veer got a very warm welcome from each and every member of his father's team. He was very happy and excited throughout the journey. He was talking with everybody, laughing out loud, grinning like a fool, planning their upcoming activities with Neel. He has never ever experienced this kind of holiday, with so many people. It was always either Arjun and him, or Arjun, him and Neel.
Arjun sighed watching, Veer was whispering something to Shree and Chotu excitedly. He was so happy. Anyone could figure that out. Arjun realized his mistake by keeping Veer away from the world. But he is not going to do that, not anymore.
After reaching, they were looking for Sakshi at the Airport, as she told Aisha, she would come to pick them up. But there was no sign of her. Just then Aisha's phone buzzed. Hearing the conversation, though from only one side, but it everyone understood Sakshi wouldn't be able to come as she's stuck with something. But she did send a car for them.
They came out from the Airport. A middle aged man, holding a 'Anand' written placard, was looking everywhere.
They went to him, and after making sure everything is settled, they settled themselves in the car.
It was not a long journey from Airport to Sakshi's house. Within 20 minutes, they reached the place. The mansion was undoubtedly very beautiful. It wasn't big nor it was small, it was the perfect size. There was a huge garden type area surrounding the mansion. An aura of peace was roaming around the place. If anyone wants to take a break and hide from the outer world, to rediscover him or her, this would be the perfect place.
They got out of the car, an aged lady was standing in front of the door of the mansion. Seeing them, she came towards them and greeted them.
"Hello. I'm Pooja. Aap logon ko aane main koyi problem toh nahi huya naah? Actually Sakshi couldn't come to the airport to pick you guys up. Uska ek bohot zarori ek kaam aagaya tha.",she said very sweetly.
''Nahii. Koyii problem nahii huya aane main.'', Aisha was the first one to respond.
''Chaliye andar chalteh hain. You guys must be tired from the journey'', she said showing the door.
They entered the house, and it was beautiful. It was very simple yet elegantly decorated. It had a vintage touch to it. Everyone was very much impressed.
They settled themselves in the couch, both Veer and Neel started roaming around the living area. Pooja went to the kitchen to bring them water.
''Kya Yaar. Kya mast ghar hain. Sakshi ne kabhi bataya nahii that, she's this much rich. I mean, I'm quite impressed, Dude",said Shree checking out the place.
''Shut up Specky! Pooja ne agar sun liya toh kya sochegi tumhare bare main", said Lisa hushing him.
"Quite guys",said Sameer glaring at them.
''Ye chota sa bachha kon hain?", Neel asked his mother, pointing towards a photo frame, which was hanging from wall. That caught everyone's attention. Everyone noticed, there were so many pictures of a kid of different age.
''Shayad Sakshi hogi", said Aisha adoring the pictures. They were beautiful.
Suddenly the door bell rang, as Pooja was in the kitchen already, Aisha went and opened the door.
Much to her shock, there was a little girl standing, of 4 or 5 years old. Seeing her Aisha was in complete 'awwe' situation. The little girl was much cute. And the little girl was gawking at Aisha, and seeing her bump, she immediately touched it. Aisha laughed.
''Apke Pet itna bada kyun hain? Aur aap ho kon BTW? Kitni bar Pooja ko kaha hain kih strangers se baat maat Kare, aur usne toh ghar pe invite bhi kar liya", said the little girl, now her hands were on her hips, and she was looking at everyone with her suspicious eyes.
''Arreh Kavya, Tu aagayii, itta jaldi? Mumma kaha hain?", asked Pooja from behind.
Everyone looked at her direction. They were confused. Who was this girl? As the little girl came into the house, she was shocked too, seeing so many stranger faces, gawking at her. Aisha came, sat where she was sitting before. Kavya after checking everyone out from top to bottom, turned towards Pooja & asked in an enquiring voice, "Pooja, how many times do I have to tell you that, you shouldn't talk with strangers. Aapne toh inhe ghar pe hi bula liya. Hain kon ye logh?"
Everyone was having a hard time to control their laugh. Even our rough and tough ACP Arjun was smiling too.
"Ye sab apke Mumma ke saath ek hi office main kaam karteh hain. Unke dost hain.", sighed Pooja.
Now everyone went to the shock zone. Mumma, same office? So the little girl was Sakshi's daughter? But how can it be possible? Aisha's mouth was wide open in shock.
Kavya digested everything, and looked apologetically to everyone.
"Waise where's your mother?", asked Pooja.
"Unka kaam khatam nahi huya hain toh wo she asked Raman Uncle to drop me home.", said Kavya.
"Okay. Waise Kavya aapke manners kaha gaye? Say hello to everyone.", Pooja said glaring at the poor little soul.
"Hello", said Kavya still not believing the whole situation.
Everyone nodded their head. But everyone was in dilemma, how can the little girl be Sakshi's daughter? Sakshi never told them about her daughter. Aisha and Liza were very disappointed. As the three of them shared literally everything with each other.
Kavya all of a sudden again went towards Aisha, asked her, "Aapne bataya nahii, apka pet itna bada kyun hain?"
Neel and Veer started laughing, as they knew about the whole baby thing, so they thought she was such a stupid girl that she didn't even know the simple fact that Aisha was carrying a baby in her tummy. Arjun glared at them. Kavya glared at them too. Both of them stopped their laughing almost immediately.
Aisha smiled at her curiosity, said, "There is a baby in it."
Now Kavya was in shock zone. Her jaw almost dropped to the floor. She asked, "Why is the baby in there? Did you eat it? How can you eat your own baby?"
Everyone controlled their laughter, as it would be very inappropriate.
Pooja interrupted suddenly, "Kavya go to your room and change your clothes. I'm preparing lunch. And let them take rest too. Tu badh main apna ye KBC khelna."
Kavya looking dejectedly at her, started going towards the stairs.
There was a pause for few moments. But Aisha couldn't hold back her curiosity anymore, and finally asked to Pooja, "Kavya Sakshi ki beti hain? I mean how? She never told us about her."
Everyone was looking at Pooja's face expecting an explanation to all of these. She just smiled at them and said, "I think it is not my secret to tell. Let Sakshi come, wo hi ye situation aap logon ko samjha paayegi."
|| CHAPTER IV ||
Aisha's pov
Saying I'm shocked, mad would be an understatement right now. Moreover, I'm hurt, really really hurt. I've always considered Sakshi as my bestest friend, no scratch that, Sakshi is my family, she is my soul sister. How could she not tell me that she has a daughter? Itna bada sach chupaya usne? Kaise? Khun? She might own a justified reason, but still. I really want to believe that she has a proper reason, lekin phir bhi mujhe aur Liza ko to bata sakti thi. Kyun kya tumne aisa Sakshi?
The door of the washroom clicked open, and Sameer came out looking for me. He took one glance at me and I knew he understood my inner turmoil. He came forward and kneeled before me, took my hands and gave a light squeeze.
"I'm sure she has a reason behind it. Sakshi aisi nahi hain. And you know it better than anyone else.", he said assuring me.
"I thought I knew her, Sameer. But I don't know now.", I said.
"Don't stress yourself too much. We'll ask her when she gets back. Now go and freshen up. Neel must be hungry.", he said instantly smiling a bit at the mention of their son.
I nodded, got up and thought to myself, Sakshi Anand you better have a proper reason otherwise I'm going to kill you.
Sakshi's pov
God, why do you hate me so much? I mean seriously just tell me. Aaj baat kar hi lete hai. I thought I'll go there, and introduce Kavya to everyone calmly, and they will understand. I mean they are smart, sensitive people after all. Abhi bekar main iss Tia ke chakkar main phas gayi, aur Kavya ko akele bhejna padha mujhe. Pata nahi, usse dekhkar what they all are thinking, especially Aisha and Liza. They might kill me.
I finally reached there, and went inside hurriedly. No-one was there in the living area, and there was this pin drop silence. Good, the silence before the storm that is going to happen. Where is Kavya? I went upstairs to check up on her, I don't know why but I hate not seeing her as the first thing every time I get back home.
"Kavya, go and change your clothes beta. Kabse baithi ho yaha. Mumma will get angry.", I heard Pooja speaking.
"No. First I need Mumma to come and explain.", she said and I could literally see her scrunching her eyebrows together, nostrils flaring up.
I smiled to myself, and went inside. She was sitting on the bed, Pooja was kneeling in front of her, her back was towards the door, so she didn't see me yet. Pooja saw me and shrugged.
"I'll take it from here. Pooja you go and check up on food. Everyone must be hungry", I said. She nodded and went outside of the room. I slowly walked towards the bed and sat beside her.
"Why haven't you changed, Kavya?", I asked.
"First you tell me, why these people are here? It was supposed to be our holiday, Mumma.", she said turning towards me.
I scooped her up, and settled her on my lap and said, "It is our holiday, Baby. They are Mumma's work buddies. They've come here to spend the holiday with us. We're going to have so much fun."
"I know you still are going to work on our holiday. This is so you.", she said dejectedly looking away.
"No Baby. Hum thoda sa kaam karenge, aur bohot bohot zyada maaze karenge.", I said.
"Pakka? If I see you working too much rather than having fun, I'll just pack my bags, and go back to Mumbai." She said crossing her arms as if challenging me.
"Accha? How will you go back to Mumbai if Mumma doesn't take you?", I laughed.
"I'll take Pooja with me. Usse zaroor Goa se Mumbai ka rasta maloom hoga.", she smirked.
God, I so want to wipe that smirk off of her face. She is becoming more and more like me day by day. I don't like it even a bit.
"Can I come in?", it was Aisha's voice.
Okay. Finally. The moment of truth. Sakshi, calm down. You can get through this. I looked at her. She slowly came towards us maintaining the eye contact with me. I gulped.
"Hi, I'm Aisha. Apki Mumma ki friend.", she said, and I didn't help but notice the taunt in her voice.
"Hi, I'm Kavya. Kavya Anand. Meri Mumma ki ek hi lauti beti. Nice to meet you.", Kavya said stretching her hand forward.
Aisha was kinda shocked, she didn't expect this kind of sass from a 4 year old. She took her hands, shook it for few seconds and then smiled as if she remembered something funny from past.
"Very nice to meet you too, Kavya. I must say you're a very smart young lady.", she said.
"Thank you", Kavya blushed.
Then she asked again, "Apne bataya nahi, how can you eat your own baby?"
Okay. Wait, what? Forgetting everything me and Aisha started laughing.
"Kavya baby, aisa kuch nahii hain. You're misunderstanding.", I was searching for words.
How do I explain this whole baby thing to a 4 year old? Aisha understanding my situation, sat beside me, took Kavya, and settled her on her lap and said, "I didn't eat my baby, Kavya. See whenever God sends babies to their mothers, the babies get to stay in their mothers tummies for few days. Once the baby is ready to come out, the doctors take out the babies from our tummies."
Kavya thought for few seconds, oh God what is she thinking? Phirse koyi weird question karegi. I usually appreciate her curious nature, but not right now.
"I was also in my Mumma's tummy, when I was a little baby?", she asked pointing towards my stomach.
"Yes you were, and you still are my little baby. Now go and change your clothes. You've to eat as well. Go go." I said.
Kavya got up from Aisha's lap and went towards the washroom. Once she was in there I said looking towards Aisha,
"We need to talk.", I said.
"The hell you do.", she said sternly.
"But not here. Let's go to the terrace, I'll call Liza.", I said getting up from the bed, and took out my phone.
|| CHAPTER V ||
Sakshi's pov
I took few deep breaths before walking to the terrace, where Aisha and Liza were waiting for me, waiting for an answer. I really have no idea how I'm going to explain all of these to them. I knew they were hurt, hell I would be hurt too if I were in their shoe.
I finally went there, they were standing by the railing both looking at me. Taking one look at their eyes I realized I've crossed a line. How could I not tell them about Kavya? God, I've messed things up real bad this time.
But no, I was not going to let them misunderstand or mistrust me, not this easily. I'm not gonna lose them too. I will make things right by hook or by crook. When relationships are broken, you don't just throw them away, you try to fix them. Right?
By each passing second the tension between us was becoming more and more heavy to bear. I walked over to them. I looked at Aisha, her facial features were hard, emotionless. I cringed at that. I'm the cause of all this.
"Do you guys remember the very first time we spent together as friends, as family?", I finally asked but none replied so I decided to continue.
"It was my second case with you guys. Liza was going through a tough break-up at that time. We all were physically and mentally exhausted. So we decided to take a break. We went out for a drink. It was raining heavily that night. We drank straight up vodka on the rocks in huge glasses. After a few drinks Liza started crying while throwing up. God that was a hilarious scene to watch, me and Aisha, we could hardly control our laugh. We were by her side, I was rubbing her back, Aisha was holding her hair. I offered some more drinks just to stay with you guys a little bit longer. Then finally we were walking back home, drenched and drunk af, singing highway to hell at the top of our lungs and getting yelled by people. But it didn't matter. What mattered was the three girls, who probably didn't even know each others last name before this evening, were there for each, letting everything out, forgetting every worries, heartbreaks just for one single night and having fun.", I said smiling remembering the night.
I still didn't get any reply. Liza was looking at me narrowing her eyes trying to get my point.
I sighed and continued, "You know guys that night I not even for once asked myself, what were their last names for starters? What kind of persons were Liza and Aisha? Where did they grow up? Why did they join ETF? The past, these small details didn't matter to me. I only saw three girls who were tired of fighting their own battles, were trying to forget everything for few moments. That's when I realized how special you guys were. I don't even remember that when that going for a drink turned into a friendship that I was never aware of. But I welcomed the experience anyway. I'm always going to be grateful that I did. I was so happy that you guys became my friend.", I said smiling softly at them. God that night is so special to me. I found these two precious people.
"Not telling you about Kavya is the worst thing I've ever done, believe me. And I regret it deeply. I never once tried to think about how I would've felt if any of you guys ever did the same thing to me. I only considered my side of the story and my reasons, never bothered about how you guys will feel when you'll get to know about Kavya. I'm sorry, I truly am. I know..",
"What reasons?", interrupted Aisha.
"Kavya isn't my biological daughter. But she doesn't know that. Her biological mother, Akansha was my roommate. We were friends since kindergarten, you know chaddi-baddi type friendship. She was pregnant, single and moreover scared to death about raising a child alone. I assured her numerous times that it was perfectly okay to be a single mother, that I was gonna be there for her at every step. She was freaked out throughout the pregnancy, but she somewhat seemed okay once Kavya was born. I was relieved thinking that everything was unicorns and rainbows again. But one night Akansha went out saying that she has a date, and never came back. I always knew that she didn't want Kavya since the beginning. When she realized she was pregnant, it was already too late for an abortion, so she couldn't do it. After Kavya was born I thought she has changed. She proved me wrong by leaving her 4 months old daughter behind. I tried contacting her a few times but it all went it vain. I knew even if she comes back this time, she is going to do this again in future. How could I let that happen to Kavya? It wasn't her fault. She didn't deserve this. I've experienced similar things in my life too, so I know exactly how it feels be to be abandoned, to be left behind. How could I knowingly put another human being in that same situation? So I adopted Kavya legally as my own. And she is my own daughter, nothing can ever change this truth. I love that little girl to death.", my vision was getting blurry. No, I can't cry, not right now.
"Nobody knows about Kavya being my daughter. See I don't have the most wonderful relationship with my father. If he ever gets to know about her, he might try to snatch her from me. I know you guys must be thinking that, no matter how distant a parent is from his child, no matter what happened between them, a parent can never do such thing. But trust me, it has happened before and it'll happen again in the future as well if he gets the information. He won't even think twice before doing it. Also I've successfully made quite a number of enemies due to my profession. So I always try to lay low as much as possible. But still this doesn't justify for my action. Families don't keep secrets from each other, right?", I finally let it all out. I never knew that I had it in me for saying these things out loud to somebody else.
"Come here", Aisha said pulling me towards her. I clutched her tightly. I couldn't control my tears anymore. I hate crying in front of people. But they aren't any ordinary people, at least not for me. So for the first time in my life, I gave myself the liberty to cry in front of my people. Liza too joined us. We were just standing there, hugging each other, letting it all out, just like that rainy night. Yeah, I really do love these two people from the bottom of my heart.
