Chapter 40
Neha came back to Rawte Mansion. She slowly climbed the steps n went to her room. She was feeling little dizzy due to whisky.. but she could still hold herself upright. She changed into Tee n capri, plaited her hair neatly. She opened her wardrobe to take another bottle of whisky. But her hands went to pick her diary which fell accidentally from her hands. A photo slipped out of the diary.
She hurriedly picked it up n put it inside the diary n threw the diary behind the book-case. She sat on floor, beside the bed, leaning onto it, started drinking. The moments she spent with Vivaan came back haunting her once again.
~ flashback ~
It was late night.. Vivaan n Neha were returning from club after a party. Vivaan dropped her at her "Week-end Villa", where she used to stay alone in London. She was slightly drunk in the party, as her friends had forced her to drink. As the car stopped outside her house, Vivaan came out of the car n opened the door for her to come out. Then he cupped her into his arms n started walkin inside. She smiled at his gesture n rested her head on his shoulder. He put her down after reaching her bedroom. She turned n was about to close the door but he kept his hand n stopped the door from closing.
Vivaan - one more dance??
Neha - why not!
She let him in n switched on the music system.
Neha - which one??
Vivaan - whatever you like!
She started the music n they did a Salsa' dance. After the song finished, Vivaan pinned her to the wall n was incredibly close to her.. She kept looking into his deep chocolate brown eyes.
He put his hand around her waist n pulled her towards him, eliminating the little distance between them. Her cheeks changing into deeper shades of red. His intent gaze sent chill down her spine. He entwined her fingers into his. Her heart skipped a bit.
Neha - Vivaan.. tum.. tumhe.. k..kya chahiye??
Vivaan - [whispered into her ears huskily] just one kiss!
Neha flinched, this was for the first time someone had dared to ask her for a kiss.
Neha - no Vivaan..
Vivaan - no?? but why darling??
Neha - I said no means no Vivaan..
Vivaan - oh.. now I understand why you are saying no.. because you haven't done it before so, right!
Neha - no.. Vivaan.. please leave me!
She desparately tried getting out of his hold but couldn't, Vivaan being a 3-Dan Black-belt in Taekwando, had easily over-powered her.
Vivaan - my darling, don't stress yourself, relax.. [she felt his hand moving around the strings of her top]
Neha - Vivaan..please stop! [she yelled]
Vivaan - ok..ok fine! but first tell me something..
Neha - what?
Vivaan - Do you love me??
Neha - what kind of question is that?? of-course I do love you!
Vivaan - You trust me??
Neha - yes!
Vivaan - then why do you have a problem when I ask you for a kiss??
Neha - Vivaan..it's not about problem..it's just that I don't like it!
Vivaan - have you tried it even once?? no, you haven't! then how can you say you don't like before having tried it! before tasting beer did you like it? no! but once you tasted it, you like it!
He tried to convince her n she was thinking about it, he smiled at his first victory, which she did not understand then. After thinking for a while, she lowered her gaze, permitting him. He again puller her closer than before n slammed his lips onto hers, n began kissing slowly, she closed her eyes n didn't respond at first but then slowly she too responded. After few seconds, they parted to breathe air.
Vivaan - so, you liked it?
Neha looked away, unable to look at him. He placed his finger on her chin n made her face him. He asked her in his usual husky voice.
Vivaan - tumne jawab nahi diya!
Neha hid her face in his chest n hugged him tightly.
Neha - kuch sawalo ke jawab nahi hote! but thank you!
Vivaan - thanks?? for what?
Neha - nothing! [she parted from the hug] good night!
Vivaan - good night darling, have sweet dreams about me..us! [he winked n left]
Neha calmed her thudding heart n took the remote from the drawer, locked the house by clicking on one button.
~ flashback ~
Neha finished half of the bottle, she felt sleepy n went off to sleep on the floor itself.

Arjun brought the kids back to Manushiion, they had already drifted off to sleep in the car while returning home. He carried them in his arms n made them sleep into their room. After checking that they have slept properly n would not get up till morning, he went back to his room. while going back he noticed that the lights in Neha's room were on.
Arjun [to himself] - Neha ke room ki lights on.. iss waqt koun ho sakta he? [he didn't know she was already at home]
he went to her room, he could smell alcohol from the door itself. He went in n searched for Neha. He looked at the scene in front of him.. he felt the land slipping beneath his feet.. shocked or surprized would be an understatement.. "Neha.." he whispered.. he couldn't say more.
He saw Neha sleeping on the floor, a big peice of glass pierced into her left wrist, blood oozing out of the wound. There was lot of blood on the floor. A bottle of whisky broken on the floor. He understood that it was not only blood but whisky was mixed in it, as there was little amount of alcohol still left in the broken bottle. He sat beside her n tried to wake her but 2 n half bottles of whisky would not let her wake up. The smell of alcohol was already taking a toll on him. He quickly brought the first-aid kit, n slowly removed the piece of glass. It was pierced quite deep inside. He did the dressing of her wound. Then he cupped her in his arms n put her on the bed, then carefully put her hand on the pillow so that the wound would not be touched. Then he looked at the mess on the floor, n decided to call a servant to clean it.
He went out of her room n found Ramu kaka n asked him to clean it.
Arjun - kaka, ek baat ka dhyaan rahe, ghar pe kisi ko iss bare me mat batana, bhau ko to bilkul bhi nahi.
Ramu - thik he beta, nahi bataunga, tum jakar so jao. Main safayi kar lunga.
Arjun noded n left.

Next Morning,
Neha got up holding her head which was paining like hell due to yesternight's drinks. She looked at the watch n was shocked.
Neha - 10 baj gaye! he deva!! main itni der tak so rahi thi.. aur kisine mujhe jagaya bhi nahi!
She slapped her forehead with her left hand n winced in pain.
Neha - aah! [looked at the bandage] ye chot?? kaise lagi?? mujhe to kuch yaad nahi!
She sat for a while n composed herself n then got ready quickly n went down-stairs. She saw Shaina sitting on the couch, reading the newspaper n drinking coffee.
Neha - good morning bhabhi!
Shaina - good morning! uth gayi aap?? aur wo bhi itni jaldi? mujhe to laga ki aaj dopahar tak sone ka irada he aapka!
Neha - aisa kuch nahi he bhabhi.. wo bas thoda jyada exertion ho gaya tha to..
Shaina - it's ok Neha, ho jata he. ab batao kya logi? tea or coffee?
Neha - kuch nahi bhabhi, ab seedha office jati hu au wahi kuch kha lungi..
Shaina - nahi, Arjun ki taraf se strict orders he ke tumhe aaj kahin nahi jane dena he, pura aaram karo.
Neha - bhaiya se keh dena ki main unke orders nahi maan-ne wali! ab me chati hu, mujhe der ho rahi he.
Shaina - ruko Neha! pehle nashta kar lo uske baad chali jana, thik he!
Neha couldn't deny her n so she sat down n had her breakfast n black coffee n then left for office. Shaina did notice the bandage on her wrist but didn't say anything.
~
ESS conference room,
11 a.m.
Team was sitting n completing their paperworks. When suddenly Neha barged in.
Neha - I'm really sorry for getting late chief. Wo me actually..
Aryan - [looked up from his file n replied calmly] kisine tumse kuch pucha??
Neha - nahi lekin..
Aryan - jao, aaj tumhari chutti he!
Neha - what?? Don't tell me you're following ACP Arjun's orders! And if you are, I'd better tell you I'm not going anywhere. [she sat on her chair] Aur agar aap mujhe iss chot ki wajah se ghar pe rehne ke liye keh rahe he tab bhi main nahi jaungi!
Aryan - are haan.. main to ye puchna hi bhul gaya.. ye chot kaise lagi?
Neha - pata nahi!
Aryan - pata nahi?? kyu? chot lagi tab so rahi thi kya?
Neha looked away, wondering what to answer!
Aryan got a call n he excused himself.
Everyone resumed their paper-works.
Manushi - Neha, tumne bataya nahi..tumhe ye chot kaise lagi?
Neha - maan.. maine kaha na.. ki mujhe nahi yaad ki ye chot kab aur kaise lagi..I don't even remember ki ye bandage kisne lagayi!
Manushi gave her "are-you -serious" look.
Neha - now get back to work everyone! the break is over.
She opened the file n picked up pen but kept it back as her head was still paining. She ordered a strong black coffee n then tried to focus on the file. Soon the coffee arrived n she was relieved. They chatted n also completed the paperworks.
~
Evening,
Neha was checking her mails, Manushi busy reading some new developments in the forensic science, Abhinav was cleaning his gun, Rehan was busy donloading the latest software. Aryan came into the conference room, with a new case.
Aryan - guys we have a new case. Aur uske liye hume kal subah hi Mahabaleshwar ke liye nikalna hoga.
He briefs the case to the team n assigns task to everyone.
At about 7 o'clock he calls the day off as they had to leave early morning the next day.

Next day,
5:30 a.m.
ESS office,
The team was ready to go to Mahabaleshwar. They had a highly confedential assignment to deal with. All of them settled in the SUV, Aryan at the driver's seat, Neha at the co-driver's n rest three behind.
After about 5 hours they reached Mahabaleshwar. They were going to stay at a cottage. As soon as they reached there, they got to work.
After a tiring day, all were back at cottage around 8 in the evening. They discussed the case n details n had dinner. After dinner they decided to relax. There was a shade outside the cottage where campfire could be lit up. So team seated around the camp-fire. Enjoying the cold breeze n the warmth of the fire.
Rehan - kyu na hum sab kuch khele!
Abhinav - good idea! par khelenge kya?
Manushi - truth and dare kehlte he! bahot maza ayega! tum kya kehti ho Neha?
Neha - ok!
Abhinav - chief, aap khelenge na?
Aryan - haan, kyu nahi!
Rehan - lekin bottle kahan se layenge?
Neha - main laati hu..
she went inside n asked the servant to show her the bar, he led her to a small bar setup in the cottage itself. She took one beer bottle n opened it, emptied the contents into a glass n brought the empty bottle back. They started the game. Manushi turned the bottle n it stopped in front of Neha n Rehan.
Manushi - Rehan, Neha ko sawal pucho!
Rehan - Neha, truth or dare??
Aryan - truth!
Neha - sawal aapko nahi mujhe pucha he!
Aryan - pata he mujhe.. lekin kya he, tum hamesha dare leti ho.. we all know you are very daring to iss baar truth.. this is a challenge for you!
Neha - Neha kabhi kisi challenge ko mana nahi karti.. so, challenge accepted! truth.. Rey ask whatever you want to!
Rehan - ok.. the question is.. tell us about your first n last boyfriends!
Neha first smiled n then chuckled!
Neha - my boyfriend??!! hehe! [looking at Aryan] do you really think I would have one?? Wo kya he.. hamare jo bhaisahab he wo jitne dikhte he, asal me wo utne acche he nahi! aur waise bhi koi khud apna pair kulhadi par kyu marega?
Aryan - what do you mean??
Neha - meaning is simple.. lekin abhi samjhane ka mood nahi he!
Manushi - Neha.. baat ko ghumana band karo aur seedhe-seedhe batao na!
Neha - tu to college tak mere saath thi..tujhe to pata hi hoga.. koi tha hi nahi!
Aryan - college tak nahi tha..lekin university me to tha! ab naam bhi main hi batau ya tum khud bataogi!
Neha - koun?? aap kya keh rahe he??
Aryan - to tum aise nahi maanogi.. thik he.. to batao.. Vivaan Raichand koun he??
Neha's face became pale, shocked would be an understatement.. she felt her heart thudding loudly at his mention. She was getting restless. But somehow she composed herself.
Neha - he is dead.. wo marr chuka he! [she said it more for herself than others]
There was complete silence for a few moments.
Rehan - I'm sorry.. mujhe
Neha - don't be sorry.. waise bhi ye bahot purani baat he.. it doesn't really matter now! bhau..aapko kaise pata..
Aryan - mere jasoos har jagah he! tum nahi bataogi to bhi hume sab pata rehta he!
Neha remembered that Shaina had once seen Neha coming home with Vivaan n then she'd told her that he was her boyfriend!
Neha - you guys continue the game.. main aati hu..
She left before anyone could stop her.
Aryan - game continue karo!
They continued playing the game.

Mumbai,
Rawte Mansion,
Shaina was in Neha's room. While playing hide n seek, Aryan was hiding in her room n when Arni came to catch him he ran out, n dashed with the book-case n it fell down, all the books were not scattered on the floor, messed up. Shaina was arranging the books back in their places.
Arjun saw her working there n came to help.
Arjun - bhabhi.. main aapki help kar du?
Shaina - haan.. bilkul.. tumhare bete ne jab ye sab failaya he to sametna to tumhe hi chahiye! dhyaan se, abhi books me notes rakhi hongi.. to ek bhi page idhar-udhar mat karna!
Arjun - ok!
he looked at the books, most were on psychology, criminal psychology in specific.
Arjun - bhabhi, ye itni saari Crime Psychology ki books? Neha inka kya karti he??
Shaina - aachar dalti he! of-course padhayi karti he aur kya.. ab Ph.D. kar rahi he to itni books to padhni hi padengi na!
Arjun - oh haan.. main to bhul hi gaya tha!
Shaina - Arjun, maine ye left side ki saari books arrange kar di he. tum wo baaki ki kar lena, maine baccho ko padhayi karne bithaya he to unhe dekh leti hu.
Arjun - thik he bhabhi.. aap jaaiye.. main kar lunga.
She left, Arjun was arranging all the books carefully. Neha always liked her things to be kept in a proper arrangement. Well thanks to him, he'd taught her to keep her things properly. As he finished keeping the books, he saw a diary. He picked it up n a photo slipped out. He looked at the photo n wondered who he is! He knew the answers were in this diary, but to read it was completely unethical. A brother should not read his sister's personal diary. He held the diary in his hand, deciding whether to read it or not.

Mahabaleshwar,
12 p.m.
Neha n Manushi were sleeping in their rooms when Manushi woke up hearing someone's voice. She sat up n saw Neha speaking in her sleep.
Neha - nahi.. mere paas mat aana.. kaha na maine.. dur raho.. dur raho mujhse.. haath mat lagana mujhe..
Manushi tried to wake her but felt scared to touch her.. she tried calling her name but was of no good. She immediately got up n went to call Aryan. She checked the rooms but didn't find them. She went out n saw the three men discussing something.
Manushi - chief.. jaldi chaliye.. wo Neha..
Aryan - kya hua Neha ko?
Manushi - pata nahi.. aap jaldi chaliye..
All of them rushed to the girls' room. As soon as they reached inside, Neha woke up screeming, "Naaahhh..." She was sweating profusely, breathing heavily n crying.
Aryan sat beside her, giving a side hug, tried to console her.
Aryan - shona.. baccha shant ho jao.. rona band karo.. sona..
he gave her a glass of water, she drank it slowly n stopped crying but was still sobbing.
Aryan - kya hua baccha?? koi bura sapna dekha??
Neha - [muttered to herself] kash ki wo sirf ek bura sapna hi hota..
Manushi - Neha.. tumne to mujhe dara hi diya tha.. aisa bhi kountha sapne me jise tum dhamki de rahi thi??
Neha - yaad nahi.. waise bhi mujhe bahot neend aa rahi he.. aap sab bhi so jaiye.
Everyone left to their respective rooms. Manushi went off to sleep but sleep was far away from Neha's eyes. The nightmare was again haunting her night. After trying hard to sleep, she woke up. A little amount of alcohol was the only way to get a sleep. She took out her bag n tried to get the bottle. After searching whole bag, she didn't find it. She looked around n saw a shadow at the door. She went out n saw Aryan holding her bottle. He said sarcastically.
Aryan - ise hi dhundh rahi thi na?
Neha's eyes were on the bottle itself, one question in her mind, "How did he get that??"
Aryan - yahi soch rahi ho na ki ye mere paas kaise??
He held her hand n almost dragged her out of the cottage. Neha could feel his anger burning him, n next was her turn.
