Turn Around!
Part-9:
I pulled the car at the portico as Wargade came out of the house to welcome us. He came forward and tried to open the passenger door.
"Thanks, Mr. Wargade! Help mother!" Arjun motioned towards the back door.
Wargade approached the back door and backed away in shock as the car shook vigorously.
With Arjun got down I had to pull the hand break, fast, to control the shaking as Chottu was trying to get out of the car.
Once he got down it was easy to manage the small car that we had arranged for the trip.
The last time when Arjun came here in a taxi and said he was staying in a hotel and was coming in a taxi to visit the house, it was necessary to produce a car now.
Now Wargade reached the back door and opened it.
He was shocked once again to see the back seat empty and turned to Arjun for an explanation. But Arjun called me, instead, "Shree!"
I was closing the window as he called.
"Si!-, Ar-, Coming!"
I came to a decision fast and got out of the car.
"Get it!" Arjun said.
"Right!"
I went to the back of the car and opened the back.
I produced a foldable wheel chair as Wargade was looking puzzled at it.
"If you please!" Arjun said to him politely and reached the back door himself.
"Shree, help me here!"
"Yes, Bhaiya!" I was all right then.
I set the wheel chair and placed it ready.
Arjun leaned forward toward the back seat as Wargade whispered, "What are you doing?"
"Don't you know our mother can't walk? So we help her get down the car." I told him with a frown.
He seemed undecided to talk to me any further about it.
He turned to Arjun again.
I saw Chottu was sill wriggling his body to ease out the pain, the journey in the small car cast over him.
I smiled at his wig and beard.
The mustache was in some other class with his specs.
Arjun picked up the imaginary mother in his hands and placed her carefully in the wheelchair.
"Ma, This is Mr. Wargade, the owner of the house, " Arjun introduced.
"Mr. Wargade, this is my father," he said as Chottu came to his side at last, "And this is my mother!"
"Goo-" he stopped and tried again, " Good day, Mr. Wargade," Chottu said now in a harder voice.
"Welcome, Mr. Rawte!"
We four including Wargade were standing there just like other statues and were looking the mother until Wargade gave in and said, "Welcome Mrs. Rawte!"
"Shall we?" I volunteered.
He gulped and said, "Oh, yes, Please come in," he invited us in.
We entered in as Arjun said to the mother that, "No mom, he won't think like that. He is a gentleman! Isn't you Mr. Wargade?"
"What- I mean what did you say?"
"No, no. Mom said we are troubling you unnecessarily. I replied she was wrong!"
"Yes, yes correct! I mean she is wrong," he laughed nervously.
He showed us the sofa.
Arjun refused at once.
"No, show me mom's room first. She needs rest now!"
"Right, this way please!"
Once closed the door after giving her a pat on the shoulder and telling her that the books were in the side table next to the bed, Arjun came to join us in the sofa.
Wargade greeted him with a juice though his face was not normal.
"Thanks , by the way, he is my brother, Shreekanth! Sorry, I couldn't introduce him any sooner. Don't mistake me Mr. Wargade," Arjun took the glass and introduced me formally.
Wargade did not even turn towards me or deny that he did not mistake him.
His eyes went once to the closed door of our mother nervously.
Arjun cleared his throat and said, "Mr. Wargade, if you let me I'll show the house to my father and brother."
We quickly passed the rooms and I asked, "Can we see the garden, Mr. Wargade?"
"Sure!"
"You go. I'll sit here,"
Chottu settled on the sofa.
We came out.
I went hither and thither and started asking him," Which flower is this?", "What's the name of that plant?", "What's there?"
I moved to the side of the house as Arjun and Wargade followed me.
"Mr. Wargade, where can we get a taxi here?"
I asked an irrelevant question then.
"It's just two blocks away- aww-ay-", he stuttered as his eyes saw the impossible.
