Periphrasis of a Petrel!

She laughed lightly as they moved into the compound.

"What's so funny here?"

"You know, when I came here first, running away from the dog, he was standing in that same step as I was hiding behind the doors safely!" She laughed again, as Ravindhar joined her.

"When I saw through the window, he gave one fierce look! I'll never forget it, ever!"

"Towards you?"

"Oh, come on, Indhar-ji,- towards the dog! You won't believe it; the dog literally took a step back and went away instantly!"

Ravindhar jingled the bell once.

"You know, once I came out I found the truth that he had not much choice then, but to face the dog, since the doors were locked at one end and the dog was standing at the other!"

She said in a low voice. She started giggling and cupped her mouth with her palm.

Ravindhar laughed and quietened her.

"Shh... This is not fair!"

"Which one?"

A new voice asked from the other side of the door as the door opened wide.

"Oh, God!" She whispered.

"Uh- It's nothing-" Ravindhar started.

"Of course! What if I say there is dog behind you-"

She squeaked and turned back in shock.

She found the men were laughing at her, as she turned to face them.

She too laughed nervously.

"Please, come in!"

He invited them in.

"I wanted to thank you for your timely help that day! I owe you one, actually!"

"Oh, it's nothing Mr.Ravindhar! Anybody could do that, even this girl, could have done it herself!" She was looking the photos on the refrigerator as they started talking. She saw a middle aged woman on a photograph with him. Must be his mother!'

She saw a girl with them in the other. Who's she?' She was searching for more photographs on the wall as she heard them mentioning her in their talk,he was saying, "...As she knew well how to lock a door behind one way or the other!"

She turned to see what was going on. She found them smiling and watching her.

"What?"

"Nothing!"

They both replied together.

"Where is your mother?" She asked for a starter.

"She is visiting my sister, who is in Pune!"

"I see and..." She glanced at the picture on the refrigerator, significantly.

"That's right!" He said shortly without explaining her what was right, which she was eagerly waiting for and he added, " By the way, how is her mother?"

He turned to Ravindhar to her annoyance.

"She is fine now and she requested us to invite you specially for the function personally."

"Thanks!" He replied shortly again and did not give her the glimpse of his decision, whether he would come.

"When will your mother come back here?"

Ravindhar asked him.

"I'm not sure! My sister is expecting her first baby!"

"Oh, Congrats!"

"Hey! One more baby!" She said from the book shelf cheerfully.

"So your marriage will be the next!"

"She is eager than me, in that matter!"

He commented and both of them glanced at her, but she was reading a book sincerely.

He checked the address once before entering in to the compound.

He would not have gone half the distance from the gate, someone from the house came running and ran into him.

She had dashed into him and started laughing.

But he ignored her and was looking behind her, over her shoulder.

As expected a boy came running after her with two more kids!

"Right! Now it's perfect!"

He said and smiled.

They tugged her dress and shouted, "Out! Out!"

"No! I'm not!" she denied.

"See, we caught you! You are out! No cheating!"

They explained.

"No! I'm not! If he didn't come in the middle you couldn't have caught me!"

"Anyway, You're out now!"

"You are cheating!"

"No, you are!"

They stopped the fight as he started complaining and they looked at him.

"See! You people invited me and insisted me to come for sure! And now I'm here! But still I'm standing at the gates! You are fighting with them about cheating. Cheater!"

He poured like a rainfall.

The children followed him suit.

"Cheater! Cheater!!"

Finally she quietened everybody and led him in.

At the doors she stopped and said," Dhi!", she turned toward him, "This is my sister Rupana! Dhi, It's him!"

"Please, come in!"

"Hello,sister!"

"No, I'm not a sister for you!"

Rupana said and smiled at her sister as her sister took a step back and was evading into the house.

"Of course, not!"

He smiled and said as Rupana's sister stood on her tracks and smiled before ran in.

"I wanted to thank you!"

'Oh, God!'

"For what?"

He asked hesitantly.

"For saving my sister from..."

She stopped dramatically.

"From your husband or the dog?"

"Why, for the both, of course!"

They both laughed as they went inside and met Ravindhar.

"Please, come!"

She and her mother came with a tray filled with juice and sweet bowls.

"Welcome, Welcome! Take it!"

The baby smiled at him as he lifted her from the cradle.

"Hi, what's her name?"

"Akshara!" She, the kid's aunty came forward and said.

In this way, the family mingled with him.
