THE FOUR DAYS

Questioning Room Incidents :

Rupav was eighteen and looked like hell. He was staring the floor as Arjun and Chottu entered the room.

Arjun took the seat just opposite him and Chottu chose to stand behind the suspect. But Rupav seemed like he did not aware of their entry.

Ayesha and I were comfortably sitting outside, monitoring them.

"Why did you go there?" Arjun started.

Rupav looked up, startlingly.

"I-I di.. n't-" His mouth went dry. He tried again.

"I didn't kill him."

"I didn't ask that still. I asked why you went there." Arjun repeated.

"To know what came up."

"Why were you so interested?"

"I didn't kill him. Really I didn't-" He cracked and started crying.

"You heard me."

" Because I wated to hide the slipper that I missed that night." Rupav cried out at length.

"Too late. We ve seized it." Rupav bewildered at hearing this.

" So you were there the night of murder too."

"Yes. But-"

"Witnessing a murder or .. doing one?"

"No, No! Please, please believe me" he cringed.

"What were you doing there the night of murder?"

"I was depressed and also angry on Bharadhwaj and wandered the streets a lot that night. I decided to kill him." He refrained from looking the eyes straight.

He hated the man sitting just before him, who seemed as though he knew this all already. But he didn't, Did he?

He went on, " I went there. It was still dark. I started winding the house to get an entry.Fortunately or may be it was my ill fate that the gates were open at that hour. So I entered."

He stopped to sigh.

"The house was dark except for one single room. I thought someone was there awake. I was half the way to the portico when I heard a dog behind and I chose the only way before me, the door of the house.

"I'd lost all my angry in a second and was about to ask help from anybody who would come out after hearing the dog' s barking. But none came out."

He looked as if he was retracing that night again.

"As I approached the door I realized that it was ajar. On the spur of the moment I entered in and closed the door behind me.

" I waited for the dog outside to move away or somebody inside the house to come out. None happened. Then I decided to look for a way to get out And it was when my fate really played terribly.

"I went to the room that had been lit. And I saw him lying under the table. I reached him on the thought that he was ill. Then I noticed the blood. i could tell he was dead. At that I flinched back and ran toward the doors. I had forgotten the dog then and how I reached the gates and my house were another nightmare."

He shivered a bit and said , "that's all.'

He felt exhausted and went silent.
