Chapter twelve

Next morning, Karan's garage.

Arjun was listening to the morning news. The news reader just read it out, with the name of car owner. She also said the driver was found safe and sound in close vicinity.

Karan : Loh, case toh shuru hone se pehle hi khatam ho gaya!!

Arjun : hmm...accha hain jo ladka sahi salamat hain...

Karan : But itni expensive car to gaya...

Arjun : (looked up) kitneka hain?

Karan : minimum 50 lakhs ka .

Arjun : Phir toh yeh accident hone ka chance aur vi kum ho gaya...

Anjali's voice interrupted this time.

Anjali : woh car se driver gayeb hon wali case ki baare main baat karr rahe ho?

Arjun : aa gayee? Haan main usi ke baar main baat karr raha tha. Tumne news dekh li?

Anjali : Haan...insurenc ki paison ki liye kiya hain, it's a drama.

Karan : Kya!!

Anjali : Haan..aur isme koi mystery nahi hain...who ladka kaal raat raaste pe bhatak raha tha...police ne pakadke ghar chor dia...

Arjun : Bhatak raha tha?

Anjali : haan...sarr pe chot lagi thi...partial amnetia hain...

Arjun : Naam kya hain uss ladke ka?

Before Anjali could answer Siman sprinted in, panting.

Karan : What happened??

Simran : Di...she's not in her room.

Arjun & Karan : Kya!!

Arjun : Iss haalat main..

Karan : kahan gayee?

Simran : Haan...(gave Karan a chit)... office gayee hain...

Arjun : You know her office's location?

Simran : (nodded positively) but she's not there, I called ... She left for some meeting...

Arjun : Anjali, trace her location...karan, stay with Anjali...come, Simran.

Anjali failed to trace Di's location as hr phone was switched off. Arjun and Simran was searching for her. Karan had nothing to do, so h brought Anjali a pastry and started working with a car engine.

Anjali was playing with her laptop, eating her pastry, while Karan was busy with a car engine. Anjali started talking to Karan, who was totally engrossed into his work.

Anjali : Karan? That SUV was really expensive...& had insurance. But the insurance company won't pay, right?

Karan : Which car?(he was busy with the engine)

Anjali : Anik Mukharjee's car...wahi jo kal accident kia...

Karan : who jiska memory saaf ho gaya who?? Hmm...carburetor main dirt hain..isiliye madam nakhre karr rahi thi...

Anjali : Arre Karan!! Main kya puch rahi hoon? Huh? Abhi vi insurance company uss car ke liye pay karega? Anik ko paisa milega?

Karan : Haan.

Anjali : Why? Won't they raise question on that accident? Car ko deliberately uss khai main gira dia..koi vi karr sakta hain...it's a deceive!

Karan : Deceive nahi fraud.(he's still busy with his work)

Anjali : Haan..haan..deceive ho ya fraud...why should thy receive the money?

Karan : kyun ki yahi rule hain.

Anjali understood that talking to Karan at this hour is impossible, so she again concentrated in her laptop.

Simran and Arjun reached the law firm Di worked. They asked the receptionist about Di. The receptionist girl informed them she came early today, and then left for her meetings with some clients. Arjun was asking for the address, when Di's boss showed up and invited them to his cabin. He informed them that he gave her off for the rest of the day, seeing her health. He first issued leave for a week, but Di insisted that she resume her work, so he permitted her to work from home if she feels so. He tried to contact Di's client, but his number was unavailable too.

Arjun called Anjali to trace the location and she found the place this time. It was a transport office. They reached the office and found Di just finished her work and left. Simran thanked the man and they resumed their search. They searched in every place she could go, including the hospital, in between Arjun called Anjali several times to know if she'd reached home or not. But the answer was negative every time.

Dishari reached the law farm at the morning. She took her seat and grabbed the morning newspaper, the news of last days mysterious accident was published in the back page, with the photo of the driver. She sighed in relief when she read that boy came back safe and sound, he had a partial amnetia due to head injury. She looked at the boy in the photo-Anik Mukharjee, thinking over the whole thing. A head injury could cause amnetia, it's no wonder...but she didn't know why, she couldn't believe it at all. There is something fishy.

Her chain of thought was broken by a knock on her door. It was MD's secretary, she informed Di that the MD has arrived. Di met the MD and gave him reports, when her boss saw her uneasy right hand. He enquired about it, and Disha informed him about the accident she met last day. He boss asked her to go home and take rest, but she insisted. So, he permitted her to work, but from home and he asked her to postponed her meetings and hearing for some days. Disha smiled at that and moved away for a meeting. It was with a land owner who was selling his land to a real estate owner, it was a big name. Disha assured him and left his place.

But the accident was still lingering over her mind. She couldn't figure out what was the odd in it. She checked the Google map of that place...and something stuck in her mind. She hired a taxi and rushed to the accident scene.

Arjun was sitting in the driver's seat and thinking about Di's whereabouts'. Where that injured girl could go. Simran was looking worried, but she became silent, which was much unusual of her.

Arjun was thinking what he knew about Di. That girl is mysterious, mischievous, stubborn, and intelligent. She is conceited too. another thing...she does what she wants to do & makes other's to do so. Last night those police made her hell angry when they called her sick...right...she must've gone there. Arjun started his car and speeded up.

Simi : arre, Arjun...samhaalke!!

Dishari was sitting near the burnt site. Police took the burnt car to their lab, & they've already searched the place. There is nothing particular, but still she was sure that she could find something here.

Arjun saw Dishari from the corner of the edge and climbed down. Di looked back listening the footsteps. She saw Arjun & Simran coming down.

Di : (grumbled) aa gaye guardians!

Arjun reached near her and Simran started scolding.

Simi : What are you doing here? that too in this condition, you've climbed down this slope! Are you nuts! It'll worsen your wound!

Arjun : Disha! Yahan kya karr rahi ho? Kuch mila?

Di : Nahi...but...kuch toh hain jo nahi hona chahiye...

Arjun : Kya?

Di : Do you know what that car worth of?

Arjun : around 5o lakhs..& this car was insured...

Di : So there is a strong possibility that...he did it willingly...

Simi : Kya Di! Itna expensive car koi jaan boojh ke kyun kharab karga?

Arjun & di : Of course for money!

Arjun : Heard it in morning news, that boy who was driving the car, came back last night. He's suffering from partial amnesia...

Di : Just think...he did this accident is a deserted road. Just look at this road...very few car's passing this road during this rush traffic hour... so at evening it becomes more solitude. Now think, a barren place...with such turns, and a cliff, an accident occurred, why, how? Nobody knows. Then he just vanished like this (she clicked her fingers), where? Nobody knows...then he comes back, with an mighty amnesia. & the irony is, in spite of everything, he still can claim the insurance money, 50 lakhs.

Arjun : Hmm...yeh case junta seedha dikhta hain utna hain nahi...

Di : Haan...yeh mystery sirf barr raha hain..

Simi : ek baat batao, jo wapas aaya who aasli hain ya nahi...matlab asli Anik hi wapas aaya ya phir koi aura aa gaye Anik banke?

Di : No doubt..agar koi aur hota toh gharwal thori aapnate!

Arjun : Nahi...aur yeh turn vi utna sharp nahi hain...ki koi gir jaye...

Di : (straightened up) Aah!! ( Arjun grabbed her immediately). Arrgh! Arjun, this is my injured hand!(Arjun left her hand immediately)...I'm fine! Come, let's go to the police station, Zara dekhe toh, un logon ko kya mila hain!

Simi : tumko laagta hain who log tumse baat karenge?

Di : Haan...main iss case ka prime witness hoon...they will talk...I'll try to put the idea of insurance fraud into their head, come.

The duty officer closed the file with a thud, and looked up. Annoyance was visible on his face.

Duty officer : What happened?

Di :I'm Dishari (she offered that man a bright smile)

It didn't worked; Duty officer pulled up another file, ignoring her.

Di : Anik Mukharjee accident case ka main prime witness.

This time Simi also smiled, supporting Di. Arjun came forward to support them.

D.O : hmm..(looked up) that case is closed.

Arjun : Closed! That means no further investigations? Aise kais ho sakta hain?

D.O : (Looked to Arjun) Haan sir, aisa hi hua hain. That boy went hom last night, accident main kisika loss nahi hua, koi mara nahi, koi injured nahi hua, there's nothing suspicious...kiss cheez ka investigation kare hum?

Di : Why? Reckless driving? & making another bike fall...

D.O : uska koi witness nahi hain.

Di : Kisne kahan nahi hain? Main ho0n..he made me fall from my bike and then..(she is getting angry)

Di's voice raised at the end, she was visibly angry. Arjun caught Di's wrist tight to made her calm. Simi seemed uncomfortable.

D.O : aap ki alawa koi aur aisa nahi mila jiska mansik haalat thik ho. Aur dusra witness, he saw nothing. Toh yeh case close karne ki alawa aur koi raasta toh nahi tha humare paas.

Di understood what that D.O. tried to say by "mansik haalat thik" phrase. That made her more angry. That man meant she is insane, has hallucination problem, so she is not reliable as a witness.

D.O. looked at Di's red face. So he kept the file aside and leaned forward.

D.O. : look, madam. Anik Mukharje's case is now in the doctor's hand. Doctors said he has lost his memory..due to some injury..trauma and all that..they've rot some bizarre words in the report. Uss accident main koi injured nahi hua (he lookd at Di's murderous eyes and gulped) aap ki injury toh girne ki wajese hui...usne aapko taakar nahi maara...koi property damage nahi hua..woh roadside railing ki alawa...toh I think..aap log uss case ki baat vul jaaye toh hi accha hain.

Now Simran looked at her friends faces and smiled inwardly. "It's not that easy Mr. D.O.", she thought. "they won't forget it. Never! Neither Di nor Arjun gonna let this go so easily. Tum jaante kitne ho in dono ko? Dono ke dono Ziddi hain...itni asani se nahi chorga."

Arjun : Look, it's not like that. Iss case main aur vi kuch hain...

Now the D.O offered them a hard look. But none of them cared about it.

Di : Look, he did it deliberately. He dropped that car in the canyon willingly, for the insurance compensation...50 lakhs! Everything is planned...accident, amnesia everything!

D.O : (land onto his chair) OH!! Detectives!!

Di : Aapko jo sochna hain sochiye..but he is a fraud!

Their argument was heating up, but at the exact moment, an office came out from his room. It was one of the same officers went to Di's home.

Office : (to Di) hey, how are you? Come in.( he called her gesturing towards his cabin)

D.O : Sir...woh!

Officer : It's ok...you come.

He invited them into his cabin. He pulled chairs for di & Simran before settling into his place. He greeted Arjun also. Then he asked Di about her reason to come in the police station.

Di told him everything she knew, Arjun and Simi helped her in between. The officer put his recorder on and recorded everything, with patience. After Di finished, he looked briefly at her.

Officer : Do you know who was driving the car?

Di : I know. It's..Anik Mukharjee .

For the first time Di hesitated to answer that question, there was something in that officer's voice. What did he want to say?

Officer : Not Anik Mukharjee. Mukharjee Khandaan ki Anik. ( he emphasized on " Mukharjee Khandaan")

Di : (Raised an eyebrow)" Mukharjee Khandaan" matlab?

Officer : Oh!! Aap ko kaise pata hoga...nayee ho na iss shaher main...Aab Khaar ki Mukharjees kuch bhi kare, car accident karke insurance ka paisa kavi nahi lootnge..they don't need to do this.

Arjun : Hmm.

The officer stared at Di for a brief moment, judging what she as thinking right now. then smiled sincerely.

Officer : Miss Tandon. I hope you've got round from last day's hit. (di tried to speak but he cut her between) I know how it feels when you witness such terrible incident in front of your yes...kisi ki vi dimaag pe asar parr sakta hain...Arjun Sir...aap toh inko samhaal sakte ho...after all you know how it feels..

Di was feeling like kill that man. She was hell angry.

Di : (cutting him short) Meri dimaag thik hain...& I can take care of myself.

Officer : Yeh aapko laagta hain...aapko kya sabko laagta hain..but Miss, I think aapki doctor kuch aur hi bolenge...& aapko unki ki zaroorat vi hain...to make sure that you are actually alright. proper rest & medication se bilkul thik ho jaoge...

Di couldn't take it anymore, She stormed off the room. Arjun & Simran followed her. She stopped near the jeep, inhaling sharply to make her calm.

Arjun : (stood behind her) Yeh Mukhajee hain kaun?

Simi : Aur who officer unka naam itni makkan ki saath kyun leraha tha?

Di : (angrily) Pata nahi.(sighed heavily)

Arjun : Ek cheez clear hain..this Mukharjees are really big guns...they have money.

Simi : & power too.

Di : That means yahan humari baat koi nahi maanga, actually sunega hi nahi. Aur mujhe toh sab pagal sabit karne pe tule hue hain. But main vi chornewali nahi. Yeh Anik Mukharjee chahe kitne bade baap ke aulaad kyun na ho...agar isko iska aasli aukat nahi dikhaya, toh mera naam vi Dishari Tandon nahi!

Arjun : Kaise karoge?

Di : (a crooked smile crept on her lips) baas dekhte jao. picture to baas shuru hua hain.
