CHAPTER 19
STRICTLY A KIND REQUEST: PLEASE READ THE PREVIOUS UPDATE BEFORE READING THIS NEW ONE.
I was already up for the first time in history, I didn't need any alarm or any text messages to wake up.
"Good morning" said Monica in a tone of confusion, stretching her arms wide.
"Good morning!" I chimed and not realising I was humming as I folded my clothes in the closet.
"Good to see someone so chirpy today." She announced. She was the one who was familiar with my moods when I use to work for Cosmos.
A knock on the door startled the two of us. Sid walked in without waiting for any us to speak up.
" Morning." He jumped in with a great burst of energy. Was it just me or everyone I see, find so happy today. Until I remembered last night, so much had happened that changed many lives, including mine. Logan and I are now friends.
"Stop right there." Monica panicked pulling the blanket tight around her neck.
Sid realised the discomfort and teased her.
"Oh come on, your highness, we are soon getting married." He pushed his butt on the edge of the bed and kissed her forehead.
"Aww" a sound escaped from my mouth and from someone behind me. I turned around to find Josh leaning casually on the door with his arms across.
"You two need to tie knots soon, at least I'll get to play the Best Man for you." He smiled.
I smiled at him and wished him morning. He smiled back but the glint in his eyes was missing, and I could read he seemed hurt over something.
"Get ready for breakfast, we need to leave soon. Work calls. " Sid sighed while Monica pouted sadly.
"What? Are you leaving so soon?" I felt a sadness wash over me. The thought of not seeing them actually did make me sad. They were the only family I had unlike my biological parents who abandoned me. And of course my dear bestie Ambi. It's been such a long time, that i didn't hear from her.
"We have to. We can't afford more days off as we need to save them for our marriage." Sid winked and Monica nodded quite knowingly.
After a little more banter we headed to the breakfast table. However Josh seemed different towards me.
" Wish you two could stay for a while" Matty sighed sadly.
" We'd love to aunty. But you know we have left work behind... but we will be back soon" Monica explained with a bright smile.
...
After breakfast, everyone gathered outside and bid goodbye's to SidMonica. I hugged them until the later comes.
" You seem different today. Whatever the reason is, don't let it go. Always keep smiling." Sid whispered into my ears and released me from the hug.
The feeling during and after goodbye's isn't good at all. It ached my heart to wish them farewell for the time being. Sighing sadly at the blurry image of their vehicle fading away, I turned around to return back to my room.
"Hey Riya." Josh called out as Matty and Pat made their way inside.
"Hey. " I stopped and turned around.
" Are you working today.?" He asked.
"Yeah" I made a sad face.
"Are you okay?" I decided to ask him straight away.
He just nodded with a plastered smile.
"You're acting different today?" I added further to get out whatever he was holding inside.
"And so ARE you." He smirked sadly.
"Riya.. Uh- I know you have been away last night. I'm sorry I wasn't spying, just saw you two. My only concern right now is you, keep your distance from Arjun, Riya. I don't want to see you hurt." He looked into my eyes and walked away.
I stood there stumped once again, not able to question further. "Why? Why does everyone think he is bad?" I sighed. "Josh if you think hanging around Arjun is harmful for me, then you need to give me the reasons for it. Otherwise it makes no sense to me. I need to know" I stared down at the ground sadly.
Just then my phone buzzed highlighting a text message on the screen.
I returned to my room and collected my belongings and headed to the Manor house.
I stepped inside the familiar vintage house, and searched for the people in the house.
"Riya, sweetheart how is you?" I looked at Mark who was descending the stairs.
"Mark!" He hugged me. I felt strange how soon I was getting close to the people in this new place. It would hurt to leave this all behind.
"How was your time out Mark, Is your miss's happy now?" I teased him, even though he was my father's age, I couldn't help it. I remembered the times I was so close to my father, things change and so do people.
"Fantastic. If it wasn't for Mrs Rose upcoming event, I would have spent more time with my love." He explained.
"Well, it's good to see you again." He said holding my shoulders.
"So what are you doing here?" he asked.
"Got a text from Mrs Rose, asking me to come here."
"She's upstairs, Have a good day sweet." He excused and left. I didn't know if I should call out to him or continue climbing the stairs.
Reluctantly I climbed the stairs and walked in the large hallway. There were so many closed doors which would be his. I wondered. I thought there was an end to this hallway, but I was wrong, it ended up in a huge ballroom size living room, large chandeliers were hanging in the air, huge windows covered in satin curtains. The space was bright and lively, as if it's been brought to life some time back.
"Hey." I was startled by Arjun's voice. "Hey" I smiled cheekily.
"Nice house" I complimented. "Thanks." He joined me at the end of the hallway where I was standing.
He leaned down on the railing and stared at the open space below.
"So sir what are your orders for me today?" I mimicked in maid type tone.
He laughed. "I need your help to set up my room. It's been a while I haven't been to this house."
I nodded, surprised by him politeness.
He made his way into one of his rooms and I followed him.
As he opened the huge door, it revealed into another huge bedroom. There was a huge king size bed, and one section of the room was set up with sofa's and the other corner had huge closet doors lined up. Literally everything looked posh here.
"Are you sure you need help to do this room. Because it does look like it's been maintained well every day." I spoke up my confusion.
"Yeah, very well spotted." He smiled with a wink. The compliment pinched my heart. "Mum tries to keep this room alive in my absence, thinking one day I will return to her."
"So what can we do with this room?" I asked, moving towards the windows and opened them, letting the fresh air sweep inside.
I walked through the room and listed the things we needed to change the room.
"Perfect, we will need these things and we'll get started with refurb very soon." I said, handing the list to him.
He looked down at the list and smiled. "You are crazy, do you know that?" he chuckled.
"Why?" I laughed in embarrassment.
"Some bright lights, fresh air, music, laughter and smiles, happiness." He reads the list and looks up.
"Well this room is just perfect and needs no change except that someone needs to live in here." I replied with a shrug.
"True." Mrs Rose walked in.
"And I am happy that you finally decided to move in." She kissed his son on his forehead.
Looking at the mother-son adoring each other, I quietly made my way out the room.
"Riya." Mrs Rose stopped me.
"I'm so sorry. Just a moment please?" I walked back inside with a nod, while Arjun left the room with a short glance on me.
"Riya, we're going to have some visitors coming on Wednesday to see the Mansion. And I'm thinking of having a dinner for Arjun's birthday and invite them too."
"Good idea, it will help us to build a business relation with them." I nodded, knowing what to do next.
"Right. So get started, we don't have much time. There's lots to prepare and remember keep this dinner a surprise to Arjun." She whispered the last words.
"But Mrs Rose, how can we auction the Mansion which is so dear to..."I spilled out without a crosscheck with my mind.
"I'm doing this for him Riya. That house will only bring him pain and sadness. I see he has taken his first step to move in with me and I am very happy for that. All I want is to see him happy too." She smiled sadly.
"I'll get started with the preparations." I excused her and left the Manor house.
