This is my story line for the phone calls that Shruthi kept receiving back in USA during the Cockroach kaand.
It's not Mrs. Smith to whom Shru is talking to in secret when she was in USA as the makers showed. It was actually another guy, whom she kinda got close to and started talking at her work and he started to call her to check on her health after her surgery. With their recent interactions, both of them realize that they have feelings for each other. Shru also starts thinking that AK is just not worth it, as he does not give a damn about her and has only Anupama on his mind always. (Anyways, EMA is something that everybody does so casually in this serial, so now it's Shru's turn too!! đ )
But the only person that Shru is genuinely concerned about is Aadhya because she had met the child when she was just 8 years old and they had really bonded as a mother-daughter relationship. She knows Aadhya's history and her trauma and she is not sure how Aadhya will react to this news because then it would be complicated for all to them maintain the current relationships like what they have now.
Anyways, Majboor and Aadhya leave to India for Dimpy's wedding and Shru does not join them there. Majboor ends up marrying Anupamaid since the Sindhoor flies out of his hand when he is giving it to Teetu and instead falls on Maa's forehead because as usual Maa pretends to lose her belence whenever her puppy is around so that she can fall on him 
. So, dhoke se, they get married. Aadhya tries to tell her dad that this can be considered as a mistake and we can ignore it, but Majboor just needs a desperate reason to marry his lady love, so he gets really angry with Aadhya. Both adopted parents give a big lecture to her on samskruthi, maryada, riste, riti-riwaz aur sindhoor 
Aadhya gets mad and she asks Shru to immediately book her a return ticket back to USA.
Majboor is actually relieved rather than worried (as he has already left her several times in hotel in a new country alone, so this doesn't matter to him) plus now he gets to romance with this new dulhan (jo itna sharmathi itrathi hai, at this age bhi, uff uff uff.. ) without his daughter's constant chik-chik.
When Aadhya gets back to the USA, Shru tells her about her new love and explains to her in a very sorted and matured way why AK is not right for her and that she deserves someone who actually loves her back. Aadhya understands Shru's viewpoint as she has seen in India with her very own eyes how cheaply her dad was behaving with Anupama Joshi in front of everyone. She meets Shru's new guy, starts liking him and accepting him as Shru's partner. They get married soon and Shru and her guy still continue being there for Aadhya till the time her dad comes back to talk things over.
Meanwhile, our mahaan Romeo in India is trying to get his Anu's attention to focus on him, but as usual she only has her eyes for Vanraj and his family. He keeps urging her to go back with him to USA so that they can be with their Choti and she can re-open Spice and Chutney again, but Maa is like "Who Choti....What S&C?". Finally Aadhya tells him that Shru got married to someone else and Aadhya wants to stay with them for her mental well-being and wants to stay away from Anupama Joshi. So, Majboor is now stuck serving at Vanraj's feet along with his meri Anu and regretting that he lost his daughter and also a good girl like Shruthi.
