Touching feet basically means person himself herself surrendering to that person whose feet are touch it means ab aap hi mere anndata ( food giver) ho to jo Ann data hota hai ya jo hamari rakhsha means protection karta, है सो as due respect they touch feet

Now why girls don't touch feet of parents because it is always said daughter ko doosre घर जानहै to इसका husband iske saas sasur hi real Ann daataa है हम जन्म dene wala mata pita nahi hai

That is why parents don't let daughter to touch their feet because daughter ko zindagi bhar apne parents ke protection mein nahi rehna है तो बेटी से pair chula ke kya karenge

Jub woh beti ka kanyadaan kar dete hai to parents yeh maante है कि अब beti poori tarah saural ko surrender ho gayi yahi in laws daughter ke real food giver so they ask girls to touch feet of inlaws

Sorry to hear about your father Sam...A big tight hug to you🤗

About touching feet of elders for taking blessings ,I could never relate to it...When I was a kid I was made to touch the foot of this person who always bullied me ,just because they are my elder...I despised it and it left a permanent scar in my mind...

After that I never touched anyone's feet nor do I let anyone touch my feet...we can give and take blessing just with words or maybe a hug...

I don't buy this concept of age equals respect... Everyone should be respected irrespective of their age..

Sam grls having made to follow different rules for every situation has been going on forever. Personally I don't follow any practices blindly.

Traditions are different across but Baa and Babuji were always hypocrites, who wanted more from Anu then their own kinds (son or daughter)

Sorry for your loss 😒

Coming to the poem hilarious. It is funny, because it is true. 😆

Okay. Sharing my honest opinion coz I never have anything else to say otherwise, lol.

I always take blessings of elders but I then I give them side hug after I touch their feet. And I've seen their faces light up more when I side hug them or caress their cheeks. so Yeah I know what is more effective but some elders see it as disrespect if I don't take blessings so I oblige them.

About your thoughts about losing your dad, I understand the emotion coz I've faced same in 2020. I was also not able to go back home and see him coz the flights weren't operating. But I somewhere feel my dad did come by to see me before he left this world, coz I felt the emotions before hearing the news and have never felt anything like that before.

I take comfort in living life the way he did or taught me, and feel he is living with me. My love and hugs to you chirpy. Don't keep the guilt but cherish the memories.

Just fyi- in Gujarati culture which is what anupama is shown to be in- daughters touch their parents or any elders feet, son do too, Daughtet in law too and son in law too. This culture of daughter not touching feet is in other states but not Gujarati’s. Just like my brother or any male, I touched my elders feet before going to exam or any important thing. So do my daughter sometimes some females now a days like moms and all stop us and go in for a hug.but that is always after bending first.

Thanks for the tag Kiya! ❤️A big hug for you dear.🤗 I too lost my father so I can understand your pain. In my culture (Gujarati), both male and female children and their respective spouses have to touch elder's feet. Whether they are married or unmarried it does not change. It's not only for showing respect ,for taking blessings but for greeting as well. Like whenever elderly family friends (who are not related by blood) visit, we touch their feet when they arrive as well as leave. I'm personally not in favour of it. And definitely not in favour of bahu touching feet while beti is not allowed because like you mentioned, if beti is Gauri, then bahu is Lakshmi. So she shouldn't touch feet either. And I can completely relate to the back pain part. Been there, done that!

Ow, thanks for tagging me in this too, Chirpy!

Dunno whether to cry or laugh first - your writing is always so full of wit and heart (or is it the other way around? 😆)

But ok, first then crying 😭 - because of your Dad - and for all those who lost a loved one to Covid, or anything else, recently or earlier (like both my parents, lung cancer - smoking truly kills...)

But we can also smile because we remember him/them with such warmth ❤️

And then, OF COURSE, the big laughter🤣

This Forum is truly a virtual pool of GREAT TALENT which you and others of your ilk show so wonderfully !!

As for touching feet: I know of a Sant Ji who always says not to touch his feet...yet people ALWAYS touch them - and he tries withdrawing them but the touchers take almost unholy pleasure in actually having touched them !!!.

This touching of feet I personally totally reject. I do it because I don't want to offend the receiving party. Although I always think then - like MotiBaa: Aapki soch, sambhal lo, girgayi..

But this obsession with feet and touching them.... why not look at the heart, the spirit, the soul of the person? And give that the respect, not 'due' but DESERVED?

To force to or make anyone touch someone else's feet is to disrespect the person who is to touch. And, rightly, MaAn did place RESPECT at the heart of their relationship.

One of the Scriptures places respect at the beginning of the prayer, as an attribute of the Divine. That is, the absence of staring down someone, bullying him/her, forcing him to bhau karo the other - that is a divine aspect indeed.

Those were my (surri, surri - more than) 2 bits of contribution 😛
