Alright, so here comes a plot I have been harbouring for too long but was lacking the motivation to put into words.

Part 1

The door flew open with enough strength that the only thing left was for it to go off its hinges.

Stomping into the hall, she slammed the handbag on the sofa and cursed.

"F*ck!"

Next, she rushed into the bedroom, and scrutinized her reflection in the full length mirror. She briefly closed her eyes then, recalled their smug faces and the disgusting snickers, and her frustration soared, as she removed her bangle and aimed it at the mirror with full force.

The bangle crashed against the floor leaving a tiny crack in the mirror. Chest heaving, eyes wide with rage and hand outstretched, she hissed then and fixed her gaze on her left wrist from where she had pulled off the bangle off, brutally. It had left a tiny cut behind, not that she could be bothered about it but she calmed down finally and scrubbing her face, let out a low groan.

" F*ck!"

She plopped down on the bed and pinched the bridge of her nose.

This evening wasn't supposed to go like this.

Shaking her head, she fell on her back and throwing an arm over her eyes, closed them.

She had joined ShoBiz in the capacity of a tabloid journalist, and true to her previous experience, had gone to a high end party, to cover it. And just like old times, all was going well until they happened.

Vanraj and Kavya Shah were at the party too, but in the capacity of guests. The man was the CEO of TruNewz, the company she had dedicated 6 years of her professional life to and he was the man, for whom she had sacrificed 14 years of her worth- he was her scummy ex- husband.

The year she had completed her BA in mass comm, she had joined TruNewz as a fresher. She had planned on working an year or two before applying for masters abroad. That had been her dream, since her HOD had talked about the same in a seminar.

Unluckily, Vanraj shah happened. The man was her senior by 3 years and was well versed with tabloid culture. He was assigned her mentor, and one thing led to another. The more news they covered together, the closer they grew and no sooner had he popped the 'question' in the middle of a party, by going on his knees. And she agreed instantly, more than satisfied to see a fairy tale materialize in her life.

And before long, he swallowed her identity. She was cute, when she would fumble with her write ups and make silly mistakes, but the more she grew, and the less became the distance between their pedestals, vanraj worsened. No, he started to show his true colors.

He first threw a fit, when the company nominated her name for the best writer, in place of him. He apologized soon after though, citing his competitive nature and she had let him be.

But it happened again. He blew a fuse, when she was sent to Gandhinagar to cover Anbani's son's wedding. He accused her of warming the bed of higher ups to climb in the ranks. And she slapped him for the disgusting remark.

The man apologized the next day, and she forgave him once again. But when he stole her article and presented it as his own, she lost it. He must've never expected her to create a ruckus but she did and a mighty one at that. A committee was set up to investigate the same and as vanraj's promotion was put on hold, they grew distant and all she felt was hollowness, seeing her marriage crumble.

Everytime they were face to face, they clashed and thus she decided to separate from him, for he was no longer the man she had fallen for.

Her promotion happened and she found herself neck deep in work. She appreciated the distraction, for not only she was going through divorce proceedings but she had to see her still husband get excessively cozy with a new joinee in HR, Kavya. And, it hurt. Like hell.

And one day, just like that, all hell broke loose. She was accused of colluding with a rival channel, by selling out classified information. She had no clue as to when and how, but there were circumstantial evidence against her. Surprisingly, Vanraj Shah came to her rescue and stood tall in the face of accusations thrown at her. And he became her rock in her trying times, and thus she dropped the divorce. She let go of his professional transgressions, in lieu of his personal support.

In absence of concrete evidence, charges against here were dropped but to protect the organization's goodwill, she was asked to leave, and so she did. 6 years of hardwork went down the drain. For the very same reason, no one took her and she fell into depression. Had it not been for vanraj's constant assurance, she would have been destroyed completely.

She fell into a routine at home, and as she became a homemaker, their married life sweetened. Her mental condition improved, and soon she started to forget about her dreams of studying abroad and starting her own channel.

9 years had passed already, and she would have continued to bask in the ignorance, had she not overheard vanraj and kavya laughing at her plight, in her own bedroom, laying naked in each other's arms.

All those years, he had been two timing on her with kavya. All those years back, it was these two who had trapped her in false case of fraud and destroyed her career. And why did they do it? Simply because vanraj shah couldn't stand her pride. He could not come to terms with the fact, that she was better than him, and that she was more than able of living without him.

She had felt like dying then. But she refused to give him the satisfaction of ruining her. She filed for a divorce, and went beyond her means to hire a top tier lawyer, collected evidence of his infidelity, dug up old records pertaining to her dismissal and his hand in it. However, she couldn't find much, but on the grounds of cheating, and in order to protect his own reputation, vanraj shah caved in to her terms and gave up half his assets in alimony.

The worst it did to him was give him high BP. But she suffered the brunt of it, as the case became a hot topic and her buried history was dug up. Vanraj shah had become too powerful already, and he left no stone unturned in making her life miserable. She got the money, but failed to settle the scores with him. And in favour of her peace, she left the state, and shifted to Mumbai, with her old friend, Devika.

Shobiz was a startup, run by 28 year old harvard return, Maan Singh. He recognised her work, and supported by Devika's reference, her career came on track yet again.

And after 19 months, she was given an opportunity to come back to Ahmedabad. And Maan wanted just one thing from her- to make Shobiz the top regional channel, that is, to overthrow TruNewz from its throne.

And she agreed. For the old her was back. And the old Anupama, was raving for revenge.

Anupama sat up straight. That's right. Being disheartened would do her no good. She was already aware of Vanraj's stature and was equally familiar with his ego. Him showing up at the party today wasn't that expected but seeing his face at her first party in Ahmedabad, did throw her off.

'So, living good on my money?'

'Coward! You ran away because you knew you were wrong'

'Just look at yourself! You don't belong here, anymore'

Anupama clenched her fist, and breathed deeply.

This was just the start. More provocations were bound to come her way.

"I must stay strong. Anupama, you must not cower and you definitely, should not lose this time. Come hell or high water, you must put Vanraj shah in his place. Damn your beliefs and moral obligations, play dirty and unfair, employ every trick in the book if you must, but that b*stard and b*tch have to eat s*it this time around".

She looked at her reflection again. She was comfortable in her own skin, but this cutthroat situation was by no means comfortable.

"Go for it, Anupama! Go for it!"
