Dude what Vanraj did for so many years was ABUSE. For years and years. What varying degrees? the torture and abuse he heaped on Anupamaa for years is reality.

Also every abuser claims they love their victim and dont hate them. Thats the whole cycle of abuse and how it works

I cannot believe people are downplaying years of ABUSE Anupama faced. No wonder domestic abuse is such a huge problem in India with this mentality

but are people really looking at him as a "good guy" ? i certainly am not. he offered Anuj some water and awkwardly some support. he isnt a good guy cuz of that, but that is him showing some humanity

he was abusive - absolutely. no doubt. but what does that have to do with him showing up at Anuj's doorstep?

does he claim to love Anupamaa?

who is down playing the abuse?

i dont think anyone is down playing the abuse...this is a family drama that is executed very very well imo. i dont watch the show to agree with everything that is going on. i appreciate it b/c of how realistic it is. in our demographic alone, Vanraj and Anupamaa are a dime a dozen. and even in situations where separation or divorce takes place, there is still that level of respect for the man regardless of what he did. that is the truth for many many households.

personally, i dont watch this show for a life lesson on what is right and wrong - cuz my parents taught me that - its a social commentary on a housewife who's life faces upheaval after her pati parmeshwar isnt who she thinks he is. that's is, that's all folks.

i cant relate to the viewers who watch this and think of things in terms of a story book : hero, heroine, bad guy, climax, happily ever after.

now if you are thinking that the PH has responsibility to relay a message thru the show, that's a wholeeeeee different conversation.

One domestic abuser cannot be redeemed by showing sympathy to victim of another domestic abuser

im curious to know if you identify the abuse solely at the hands of Vanraj or if you see anyone else as responsible ? i ask cuz i dont see many people dissecting Bapuji and his role in this...

I am not really upset with the show per se....iTV mein jitna bhi realistic dekhani ki koshish kare, kuch hi extent tak ho sakta hain, because its all about drama and masala, with a few life lessons maybe thrown in...for a hero to be shown a hero, it's important to have a strong antagonist also and that's what vanraj is for...plus, the actor playing vanraj is a veteran TV actor, toh usko screen space bhi Dena Banta hain...but I can understand people's anger also...plus we all analyze things way more than the writers would do while writing the scripts 😆

💯

you are BANG ON.

you literally just summed up everything, from every angle in a couple of sentences. good job!

Hmm, you're right people don't talk about bapuji as much as they do Vanraj. But that's justified I think, given that they've actually got bapuji to express deep regret in being unable to protect Anupama, and also they've got him to stand by her in all her current decisions.

Vanraj has done no such thing. Vanraj has never been shown to recognise that the way he treats his romantic partners is wrong. He has shown only very little remorse for the very damaging stuff he's done in Anu and Kavya's lives.

Yeah, anybody showing any content to millions of people out there does have a responsibility to engage with societal issues correctly. They also recognise it... Look at all of anu's bhashans. They're just not doing a good job at addressing the issues that they themselves have brought up. And an audience has the right to demand to see content that they appreciate, I mean, nobody is asking for the show to be banned, they're communicating that this way of handling these issues is unacceptable, that the writing is sloppy, that the characters aren't consistent in how you've portrayed them.

The makers themselves have portrayed characters as Villains and heros. Anupama and Anuj are heroes, they've been given more empathy, more bravery, and a stronger moral compass than others. Vanraj and Kavya as villains, with more selfish traits, less empathy, quite a bad moral compass. The audience is just engaging with what the PH has produced. If the PH is okay with receiving praise for dealing with certain issues, they should also be okay with criticism on how they handle it.
