Part 3 - A sinking feeling.
Straight after Malvika drags Anuj from Vanika Announcement Party
She took a deep breath. Upne aapko mana kitna mushkil hota hai… she had forgotten. She had become spoiled by the open manner in which she lived these days. He had spoiled her with his honest sincerity. Taking another deep breath she steadied herself as Anuj was dragged out by Malvika. Away from the party. Away from her.
“Stop it Anupama” She caught herself. Again. She hadn’t wanted to ask questions. Hadn’t wanted to be that person again. Who had doubts and insecurities and got hurt. She understood. She truly did. And she trusted him. Truly.
But. This is what she was afraid of. Why she had been so insistent of keeping her heart out of the equation when it came to Anuj. The fear. The sense of betrayal. Feeling of loneliness. She didn’t want this. Again. Didn’t want to open herself up to feeling this way. Again.
Taking another deep breath, she fought the instinct to contact him about his meds. He had GK, and now he even had Malvika. “Why didn’t he tell me?” She had to calm down. “Why did he keep this from me?” She had to fight this feeling of desperation and sadness that was seeping into her. “Why didn’t he trust her?”.
“STOP IT ANUPAMAA” she chided herself as she straightened her spine. She conjured up the last of her strength and returned to her family. Barring Mr Shah’s check-in (surprisingly sweet) and one, too-short, tussle with Kavya… this did nothing to distract her from her predicament.
“Samar, shall we? Chalain?” She wished everyone, smiling through her frustration to avoid any unnecessary questions (that she had no answers for) as she wished everyone farewell.
Walking out, every step brought new questions, and no clear answers. She felt almost dizzy. Trying to shake it off, she turned to find Samar.
“Mummy? Where shall I take you?” He asked with hesitation.
“Er…” her silence spoke her truth to her son.
Putting his arm around her, he tried to inject his usual bright humour in to the situation. With a dramatic salute he said “Don’t worry mummy. Aapka driver aapko le chalta hai!” With that he brought her to the car.
“Samar, do you mind if I drive?” She just needed to do something with her hands. Or she feared she might explode. “Yea, of course”. Zooming through the city, everything that had happened that evening flashed in front of Anupama’s eyes. Not even realising how… she found herself pulling up in front of Anuj’s building. Looking up at the flat, she felt echos of a sinking feeling she hadn’t felt since leaving the Shah house. A feeling she hoped to never feel again. It was suffocating. Shaking it off. She knew she had to deal with this. But how…?
She found herself turning to finally look Samar in his eyes. He looked at her expectantly, waiting patiently for her. He always did, sweet boy. She had to move.
Taking a deep breath, she just couldn’t…
“Erm…” She really didn’t have the right words. Straightening her back once more, she restarted the car and starting driving. “Mummy?” Samar’s question was gentle, he knew his mother was in a delicate state.
“I… I…want to go home Samar” She said as she gathered herself and built her steely resolve. “Accha listen… tell me about tomorrow’s dance classes, what’s the plan, what’s upcoming?”
Sensing that his mother needed a distraction, he started speaking. Going into details. Talking through all the minor details of the work up ahead.
Anupama let Samar’s words wash over her, pulling her in to something other than the storm going on within. A welcome distraction. For now…
The harder the fall, the brutal will be the bruise. Anu truly is right in her thought process. It is because she trusts so much, that it hurt when mukku's truth came out abruptly.
Beautiful interpretation of anu's turmoil.
Want more n long update
I know this is a emotional story but I cracked up after reading Mr. Shah and devika's dance on kaho na pyar hai and anupama's bhashana being better than Mr. Shah. Hehe.. Nice update... Post soon please 😊😊
Part 4 - The beginnings of her frustration
Anu enterers the Kapadia kitchen the morning after Malvika’s party (and Anuj spills about his parents).
*Thwack*
“Soori soori!! I didn’t see!”
Anu’s heart jumped so hard she worried it might jump out of her chest. Her hair had just whipped Anuj in the face.
She stood watching his eyes go slightly out of focus, something she’d come to guess was a sign that Shaiyer Kapadia had taken over. Revealing in the momentary stillness, she took in his face, her eyes traveling over the flecks of water that her hair had left behind, clinging to the contours of his chiselled face… beautiful idiot. She could most feel the light morning stubble under her fingers, itching to reach out and run her hands over it. Her eyes traveled to his lips, which wore their familiar mysterious smile. Smirking idiot! She knew that if she reach out there and then, brushing their softness with her thumb, she could wipe that expression right off his face. If only she could convince herself to do so. Pagal Chokri!
Distracting herself, she asked “what are you thinking?”
Erm, “J..just that if this was a movie it would be some beautiful haatsa. But this is real life, and I didn’t realise it actually feels like a hunter. Ekdum Chaabuk”.
Anu was stunned. STUNNED. Chaabuk?CHAABUK?! Is this man serious? Actually merepaas chaabuk hota toh main inko dikhati! But the storm brewing inside her immediately softened as soon as she looked into his eyes… Adorable Idiot!
“Accha… so…so what are you doing here in the kitchen”
“Boldu?” Her heart stilled at his familiar question, feeling entirely different as he stepped closer. “Haan…”
“Boldu?” Another step closer brought her attention back to her heart, thumping so loud she worried he might hear it! “Haan.”
“Boldu?” She focused in on the water droplets on his face again, her breath getting shallower as she imagined not her hands but lips kissing it away, quenching her suddenly dry lips… Every sense heightened beyond control “Ha!…”
And just as she was about to say yes, or grab his face, or kiss him (she herself wasn’t sure which one), he swivelled slightly away to grab a pan from behind her… “to make CHAI!”
She inhaled a sharp breath, temper flaring at the unexpected change. IDIOT… “B… but why?”
“I said right? I will not let you work alone in the kitchen”, doing a ridiculous move imitation. His silly humour and sincerity settling her - flooding her senses with warmth as he had a habit of doing, while also fraying her sizzling senses further. To avoid…something(!?)… possibly jumping on him… or strangling him… (Anu get a grip!!)…she grabbed the pan out of his hands. “But why? The doctor told you to rest”.
He gently hands pulled the pan out of her hands, leaving behind a trail of fire “I can do this Anu. Don’t worry. I don’t want to leave you working in the kitchen alone”. She felt echoes of his hands in hers from last night. Control Anu!
Gripping her hands, she help herself back. Again, from doing exactly what, she wasn’t quite sure… (definitely strangling him… or just running her nails across his gorgeous neck)…Quickly turning to the counter she grabbed something, anything, to start cutting, just to do something with her hands. Did she even need onions for today’s breakfast? Probably not….
“Anyway… I wanted to talk to you Anu. I wanted to say sorry about what Mukku said last night”
