So logically and well explained.
Yes, Anupama is the product of her upbringing - when her father passed away her only support died with him. Her mother is timid and old fashioned and not only did her mother never speak back to Ba or even to Vanraj - she was always shown to be deferential towards her damad and sambandhi - she never encouraged Anupama to stand up for herself either.
At 18 or 19 whenever Anupama got married to Vanraj, she was too young and impressionable and needed her mother’s support to grow a spine. She had no financial or emotional backing to fall back on. Anupama is a product both of her upbringing and the regressive nature of the Shah household. When Anupama bought a gift for her nephew with her pay, Ba was furious, when the kids were making favors for some festival, Paakhi and Samar made nice ones for the little boy as well against Ba’s express wishes. Anupama has been raised to enter her in law’s house and leave there only as a “laash”. Hopefully, Anupama is growing up even this late in the game and will make strides in her independence.
