Earlier this evening, we in Singapore saw the episode where ACD goes to Shanthi's house and has an enocounter with Priya. I agree with Madhu that ACD came across rather badly. Cheyar, what are you doing with your star actor???
ACD says Priya had persistently chased him for marriage. She should therefore understand what her future husband desired and act accordingly or something to that effect. What crap.? Cheyar, you are a woman's liberation man (a remarried widow, a remarried divorcee, i.e., Charu, and strong-willed career-oriented women). You put your star character in jeans and sunshades and have him mouth a 19th century dialogue. How could you? Please produce more 21st century dialogues. I applauded you once when Shanthi chided Shyam for reading Uma's letters. Where is this ACD dialogue coming from? Which century? I am outraged.
ACD's dialogue also has no logic. It would have had some logic if he had uttered it after he had seen the photos of Priya's post-enquiry encounter with Priyan. But it was before he had seen the photos that he chided her for not acting according to his desires. How was Priya to know what his desire was when he himself had no idea (just as she) that Priyan was Annamica and therefore someone she shouldn't associate with? ACD also ends saying it would only be Priyan's surrender or death that would win Priya her "moksham". I believe this refers to salvation. Well, he can't be referring to legal salvation since Priya cannot be considered guilty by association with Priyan. There is no conclusive evidence that she was in cahoots with him. ACD then can only be referring to Priya's redemption in his eyes. What crap.? It's he who has to redeem himself in her eyes. Cheyar, please craft your dialogues with more care. ACD is your star and bad characterization and poor dialogues can affect his image – and your ratings.
ACD, please don't be disheartened by what we say about Cheyar's work; we still love you and your work.
Btw, folks. I thought ACD had piled on a couple of kilos. I noticed it in that episode where he visited JC's home. Cheyar, you may have to put your star on the boxing ring and badminton court more often (we want to see him in W&W and in shorts). Perhaps what you could do at the least is ensure that your star has more rest. Don't work him till the wee hours, as you probably are doing. Let him go home at a decent hour so he can lead a healthy lifestyle ;-)
To make up for readers' outrage against some of the dialogues that ACD has had to utter and the resulting poor image, I have done a short writeup on his state of mind after the death of Sigamani. It's very raw text, hastily written up, but what I've done is to try and imagine his mental state. Enjoy.
