The encounter
He was a biz tycoon.
A self made man, both envied and admired.
Loved and hated.
Worshiped and feared yet the most amiable and genuine in his conduct.
Still the most ruthless in his comand and job.
Born into an influncial family Jeet Saluja was everything that a rich spoilt brat is not. He had everything a man craves for.Name, respect and family. A doting wife, a loving family and power at hand. He had it all. But still there was someting amiss.Something he knew was missing but he couldn't quite put his finger on it. He felt an overwhelming void that he found difficult to fill. And Jeet had to comply.
But then something changed. And changed forever...
It was just one of those days when Jeet left his office. It was around one in the morning and Jeet was fearing the wrath of his family that was to befall on him on being late yet again. Heaving a sigh he got into his black Ashton Martin. It was as if he was destined to be surrounded by dramatic people.Topping that list was his best friend turned wife Rano. She would hog on him for a few hours after his return making sure she gives him her usual dose on being late for the umpteenth time.
Shifting the gears of his car he began driving towards his home.Events from his past moving in his head like a play by play. He had always liked Rano but had failed to register any romantic vibes in his heart for. Though his marriage to her was on a friendly note and they did make a good couple he didn't for a second feel the void go.
He began driving aimlessly. He needed something to soothe himself.Absentmindedly he took a turn and kept driving when he found something astrange. He had never seen this place and for the life of him he could not recognise the scenes of the place. It was a forest bathed in darkness. With chilly winds running wild. The erieness of the wild combined with an undisturbed silence made the ambience look darker and wierder than the normal. Jeet looked ahead and found a never ending path that tore itself through heart of the forest.
He saw a figure veiled in black. The darkness had already engulfed the place and the faint and feeble lights from the car was not at all helping to identify that mysterious figure. Jeet's mind had suddenly gone numb. He felt sudden curioustly coupled with anxiety grip him. And then it happened. That mysterious figure moved, towards his car to reveal itself as a lady draped in black. She came round to his window. To say that Jeet was shocked would be a gross understatement. In the light she apeared what one could call ethreal.
"Would you mind giving me a lift?" she spoke breaking the silence. And Jeet was suddenly brought back to reality.
"Of course, hop in." Jeet leaned onto the other side opening the door for her and inviting her in.She taking the cue walked over and joined Jeet in the car.Jeet suddenly felt an onslaught of senses. The lady's aroma had him enthralled and had enarmoured his senses. Jeet stole glances at her. She was rivetting and different. Her face was beautiful and serene yet there was something that screamed that it was not all. Her eyes were eloquent and calm but they also were indicative of something satanic about them. She was draped in black saree that hung to her like a second skin, revealing her beautiful curves. Jeet was immediately taken to her. He found her enticing and alluring. And he was drawn to her.But at the same time he felt something cosmic about her. Something out worldly.
He mentally smacked himself and began concenrating on the task at hand. But with her at his side; he found it difficult. The drive was quite with none of them trying to break the silence. The cold suddenly increased. While Jeet had goosebumbs all over the lady seemed pretty much unaffected.
"Do you want me to switch on the heaters?" finally Jeet spoke unable to fight the chill. She gave a shrug of her shoulder to indicate that either of it would suffice."So you're from round here or is it your first time here?" Jeet asked hoping she would answer giving words to her beautiful voice."You're listening. Right?" Jeet said, a little impatiently now.
"You pose a lot of questions." finally she answered, taking Jeet by surprise. "I am sorry if I offended you. The journey seems unending and I thought talking might take off the uneasiness." Jeet interjected apologetically.
"All journeys are bound to end. Nothing lasts forever" she said. She turned towards him, smiling she said,"Thats not all, is it?There is something else as well, right?"
"Amm..yes. How is it that you are here. I mean doesn't this pace makes you afeared? The dark...doesn't that scares you? And how come a lady like you turns up here in middle of nowhere?" Jeet voiced his thoughts.
"Shadows are not to be feared. They are partners to the light that we see.Everything eventually ends with the dark. I pray you, stop.my journey ends here."
Jeet stopped the car and looked outside." We're not even out of the forest as yet. Let drop you somewhere near the main roads. It would be easier for you to find your way" Jeet almost pleaded. Hoping that she would give in to his request, giving him some more time in her company.
"Thank you but my journey ends here." and with that she moved out of the car without even sparing a glance back.Jeet kept looking at her, awestruck, till she dissappeared into the dark.It was then when Jeet realized he knew not her name or anything about her for that reason. He banged his fist on the steering wheel in utter frustration. He was uncomfortable and longed that she somehow would retreat in her steps and come back. Her erieness had hooked to the core and now he was left fidgeting with his feelings. He turned aroundto the seat that was till a moment ago occupied by a beautiful companion. he found a sovenier. He found a gift as unique as his companion.
