hi frnds,

I'm here again n goin to post a recent article on Shaan ,the host of svoi.

hope u all like it

here it goes::

A singer & an anchor

He anchored Sa Re Ga Ma Pa for almost five years, and he is now the face of Voice of India. Shaan enjoys his credibility as a singer but takes prides in being a TV anchor too.

A lot of singers and creative people from the music industry are for the first time coming before the camera and becoming recognisable public figures. Do you think it's a good trend?

I see no harm if someone comes in front of the camera. It depends on how presentable he or she is and how well the person comes across. It doesn't really matter if the person is a singer. It could be a doctor or an engineer who can come in front of the camera. How does that matter?

But does all this take the focus away from singing?

Sometimes you thrive on being able to take up a new challenge; and sometimes it distracts you from your core interest. That depends on the individual. In the past, there have been singers who have taken up major acting roles as a hero but that has not distracted them from singing.

What about you? With such a busy schedule how do you manage hosting Voice Of India?

It takes up every Monday of the week. Then it takes me a Tuesday to recover. Because I have to use my voice continuously throughout the day. We shoot two episodes together and there is lot of shouting and screaming. It does take a toll on my throat.

You have a huge female fan following...

That's news to me! I take workout sessions seriously and follow a healthy diet because I just want to stay young for my kids and watch them grow up.

How important is it for a singer to look good on screen?

It's not about looking good, it's about being able to carry yourself well. You need to be confident, you need to come across as a persona. Now there are a lot of singers in the West who are not necessarily model material or good-looking. But they have persona, style and a certain way they come across that works for them. Michael Jackson doesn't need to be good looking; he created a persona. Rod Stewart, Mick Jagger, Steven Tyler aren't conventionally good looking but they come across very well. That's what you need and anyone can be groomed.

You first anchored Sa Re Ga Ma Pa and now you anchor Voice of India. Any reason for this shift?

Honestly speaking, I hosted Hero Honda Sa Re Ga Ma Pa for five years and I really thought that I should move on. I always felt that while you get the recognition of being an anchor, it takes away your credibility as a singer. Also, I wanted more time to work on my voice, and probably better myself as a singer. So I was almost done; and then the split happened between director Gajendra Singh and Zee TV. It was very crucial that I gave Gajendra Singh my support because he had got me into anchoring when I had absolutely no belief that I could do it as my Hindi was terrible. I believe in people more than places or institutions.

Aditya Narayan is the new host for Sa Re Ga Ma Pa. Do you think he is as good as you and Sonu Nigam were on the show?

It's not about competing. When I took up after Sonu, I made sure that I didn't watch any of his episodes or didn't try to recollect how he would go about hosting. You have to create your own style. If you try to be like somebody else then it's always going to be like that. However well you do, people will comment that he is hosting just like the previous anchor. Aditya is young, good looking, confident; he is a typical today's generation product. He will soon find his groove and start doing things his way. Right now the judges and everything else is weighing heavily on him. He is doing a great job and I am sure he will go a long way.

On most of these shows people sitting at home are deciding the fate of singers through SMS. Do you feel that's justified?

Everyone can decide whether they like a contestant's voice or not. They might not be able to reason out their judgment. Music comes from the heart and it's universal. It's not cryptic nor is it rocket science which masses can't understand. But what is degrading the essence of the show is the involvement of sansthas. Bachhon ko le ja rahe hain bakriyo ki tarah raaston par and people are waving. That's not the way it should work. They are turning it into something very non-musical. No one today sits and votes the way they did 2-3 years ago. People who vote, they themselves don't believe in the system anymore. Voting takes away the concentration from the singers. Their work is to sing, but they are more bothered about voting. Music is something that rejuvenates you but some of the contestants look so fazed. When a singer starts thanking people for votes, he becomes a puppet, almost a politician.
