This is my observation, i dont know how many agree
i think Toshi's voice has a slight resemblance to SP Balasubrahmanyam's voice. I know they hav different styles(SPB carnatic and Toshi hindustani). There is only a minor similarity which i feel at times. Although Toshi's voice is not as deep as SPB's, they both have the same kind of emotional feel in their voices. I would like Toshi to sing any SPB song to confirm.
Thoughts?😊

For your information, most of the film songs are based on different ragas on which classical music is also based. So classical music is the basis of film songs. SPB got national award for film 'shankarabharana'. Listen to it's songs and decide if SPB can sing carnatic music whether he is trained or not.

I never said SPB cannot sing carnatic songs. But he is not trained in classical singing.Just because someone sings a classical song doesnt mean he is trained in carnatic singing.Any song is based on raaga and all of us know that.

SPB is a versatile singer. He can sing any type of song. If a person is trained in a particular style of music or he sings songs based on that style for a long time he adopts that style automatically. most of the southies are trained in carnatic music or they mostly hear songs sung in carnatic style. same thing is positive in hindusthani singers. all know that although very similar, carnatic and hindusthani styles hav certain differences. Toshi is trained in hindusthani and sings in that style. SPB even though not trained has got carnatic style. I dont want to argue on this point anymore. i just thought their voices had similarity and wanted to know if anyone felt the same, that's all.

I feel Toshi's voice reminds one of Kailash kher(minutely again) more than SPB who has a more deep rounded voice.

Now coming to the argument regarding SPB's classical singing abilities it is really amazing that he could pull off classical raga based songs inspite of not being formally trained in the genre and the credit should go to the MDs of south who honed SPB's voice to give us numerous classical melodies to savour for a long time to come.

My thoughts exactly.
