It all started with a young Shreya, Sunidhi and Kunal singing in front of judges like Usha Mangeshkar, Khayyam saab, and all those greats of music in a show called SAREGAMA. At that time the word REALITY SHOW wasn't used as frequently as it is today. They were called SINGING COMPETITIONS. And they proved to be exactly that. It was a simple stage, a simple, humble host, and simple contestants-and all this for one purpose only-to find good singers. The audience was restricted to watching and appreciating the truly out of the world performances. All this went on for many years and I don't recollect anyone having problems with the only Singing Competition airing on national television at the time.

Then came an Indian Idol and started the public voting pattern. Abhijeet sawant, Rahul Vaidya, Amit Sana etc. became household heroes. This fever was such a big hit that it led to a series of such shows-dancing, singing, and everything possible. MONEY obviously was a very good reason for all those. We have witnessed a NACH BALIYE, JHALAK DIKHLAJA, VOICE OF INDIA, INDIAN IDOL and SAREGAMA continues with a new name SAREGAMAPA. I guess the Indian audience is not too expectant. As long as good music and good singers are there we are ready to bear with just about anything and everything. Its all just way too bad now.

Ethics and basic ideals are no more a part of any of the shows. The so called "JUDGES" are just puppets in the hands of the producers-wonder whether the judges know something called as ETHICS. You see a now born HIMESH arguing with a living legend ASHA TAI. You see an immensely talented and a born singer in Shankar Mahadevan sitting on the same level as the PRITAM-whose known to rob tunes. Wonder how they manage all this. All in all a very sad story and getting worst day by day. Talent has taken a big time back seat. Dramas, Emotions, Scripts, Fights are the prime focus. I personally believe if there is talent nothing else is needed. A certain Anwesha and a certain Aishwariya proved this in one of these shows. I am dead sure that if they came in one of the older seasons on SAREGAMA(when no public voting was involved) by now they would be big time playback singers-we would not then need a PRITAM to make their career. I still think we don't need one. Its quite a tragedy actually-with so many reality shows after almost 10 years we found two of these girls who finally are the quality we want to hear. Something to look upon.

I guess all this I wrote because I am one of those music lovers who is DISSAPOINTED. Sorry to say but I no longer wish to watch any of these shows. My weekends pass by better without watching the CRAP. I want to ask you all one question is it time to go back to the old format-where real judges, real talent and real performance is top most and is showcased. My answer-A BIG YES!!!! Whats yours? Do let me know.

PS: No offense to any name mentioned above-its just my take.

Rockwizard ji I am with you completely.
I have disconnected my Dish Megapack. After seeing good singers being eliminated and avg singers winning most of the talent hunt shows.
I will not let them money off me. If we all stop subscribing to it. All stop voting for these shows than show people have no way of making money off emotional-foolish janta.
Hopefully we can go back to true talent, unbiased judges and true talented winners.

That was a superb and a truthful analysis of today's reality shows. Today only TRPs matter to the channels and so they resort to all types of dramas,rhona-dhona, etc. How I miss the days of when Sonu Nigam was the host and judges were sincere and most important there was no public voting. Anyways, times change and with that the shows also have to keep up with the others. VOI 2 has a really good singer in Ritisha and I sincerely hope she makes it to the top.

very well written! rarely does a truly deserving singer (at the time of the competition; sure they might improve later) win a reality show. it started off with indian idol, which was a huge success so everyone else followed suit. it's enough now, we've had too much of realitly shows. if at all we have reality shows, i think there should only be one. and then too, only once every few years. quality of singing is really going down the drain. but of course, it's all about TRPs and profits. they're going to make reality shows as long as people watch them, as long as they get money for them. if everyone just stops watching and voting, there will be no more reality shows. we really need pure singing competitions without regionalism, favoritism, etc getting in the way. we need good judges if we want singers to go anywhere in the future, or we'll just get more besure playback singers. and of course we need quality contestants.

Touche! Tehre are two alternatives.Listen to a good CD ,or just watch the IF videos and fast forward songs you dont like. The first alternative is better. There are good music sites available on interenet.Has anyone tried rhydhun?Google it out.
I also try the second option--fast forwarding.Belive me,the 90 mnt episode is over in 30 mnts or even less.We are indebted to IF video updaters like Sonyfan,Mangnificent,Nipun and all for this.
By the way Sunidhi entered playback scene via an old DD program called Meri Awaaz Suno. She won the contest and was awarded the trophy by none else than the legend Lata Mangeshkar.Sunidhi and Shreya are the greatest gifts of those real talent search shows.Aishwarya and Anwesha may rech that standard if nurtured properly.
Kunal Ganjawala and Shekhar of VS duo were eliminated in early rounds of old SRGM,but they were noticed by discerning producers.

Very well said.. I know its really sad whats happening in todays reality(so called singing competition). They agrue, do emotional blackmailing, drama just to gain TRPs. I've stopped watching SRGMP long back. Only reason am watching VOI is for Vipul n Rishita...n the reason i dont watch it live is that i dont wanna watch all the dramas created by judges.. I just hope some day these producers will realise that we dont need TRPs, dramas..., all we need is talent..which all these kids have... so just let them sing and let judges to do their job.
