It all started with a young Shreya, Sunidhi and Kunal singing in front of judges like Usha Mangeshkar, Khayyam saab, and all those greats of music in a show called SAREGAMA. At that time the word REALITY SHOW wasn't used as frequently as it is today. They were called SINGING COMPETITIONS. And they proved to be exactly that. It was a simple stage, a simple, humble host, and simple contestants-and all this for one purpose only-to find good singers. The audience was restricted to watching and appreciating the truly out of the world performances. All this went on for many years and I don't recollect anyone having problems with the only Singing Competition airing on national television at the time.
Then came an Indian Idol and started the public voting pattern. Abhijeet sawant, Rahul Vaidya, Amit Sana etc. became household heroes. This fever was such a big hit that it led to a series of such shows-dancing, singing, and everything possible. MONEY obviously was a very good reason for all those. We have witnessed a NACH BALIYE, JHALAK DIKHLAJA, VOICE OF INDIA, INDIAN IDOL and SAREGAMA continues with a new name SAREGAMAPA. I guess the Indian audience is not too expectant. As long as good music and good singers are there we are ready to bear with just about anything and everything. Its all just way too bad now.
Ethics and basic ideals are no more a part of any of the shows. The so called "JUDGES" are just puppets in the hands of the producers-wonder whether the judges know something called as ETHICS. You see a now born HIMESH arguing with a living legend ASHA TAI. You see an immensely talented and a born singer in Shankar Mahadevan sitting on the same level as the PRITAM-whose known to rob tunes. Wonder how they manage all this. All in all a very sad story and getting worst day by day. Talent has taken a big time back seat. Dramas, Emotions, Scripts, Fights are the prime focus. I personally believe if there is talent nothing else is needed. A certain Anwesha and a certain Aishwariya proved this in one of these shows. I am dead sure that if they came in one of the older seasons on SAREGAMA(when no public voting was involved) by now they would be big time playback singers-we would not then need a PRITAM to make their career. I still think we don't need one. Its quite a tragedy actually-with so many reality shows after almost 10 years we found two of these girls who finally are the quality we want to hear. Something to look upon.
I guess all this I wrote because I am one of those music lovers who is DISSAPOINTED. Sorry to say but I no longer wish to watch any of these shows. My weekends pass by better without watching the CRAP. I want to ask you all one question is it time to go back to the old format-where real judges, real talent and real performance is top most and is showcased. My answer-A BIG YES!!!! Whats yours? Do let me know.
PS: No offense to any name mentioned above-its just my take.
