In keeping with the channel's core positioning, Sony Entertainment Television announced its next baby in the 9 p.m band. 'AmberDhara,' the channel's new offering is a heartwarming story of two conjoined twins, who grow up as strong, distinct personalities. The daily produced by Sidharth Tewary and Vikas Sethi will hit the airwaves from September 24.
Elaborating on the storyline of the show, Executive Vice President and Business head, SET says, "In the past, we have had success with some offbeat concepts like 'Jassi,' 'Kkusum,' and now 'Viruddh.' 'AmberDhara' falls in the same category. It's not a typical run-of-the mill story. Amber and Dhara are different as chalk and cheese. Amber is a bubbly, charming and a very ambitious girl, who aspires to be a singer. Dhara is soft-spoken, shy and a homely girl. Unlike her sister, Dhara doesn't dream big and is content with her little world. Two bodies, two minds, and two hearts yet conjoined for life. We think the show will definitely appeal to audiences who're looking for something fresh on the small screen."
Noted theatre actress Mona Ambegaonkar, plays mother to the conjoined twins. Elated about her new role, she says, "Since I am a theatre person, I have thoroughly enjoyed essaying Lata Shukla's role. My husband abandons me after I give birth to conjoined daughters. But I take my children to Panchgani and try to give them a normal life." Veteran actor Kanwarjit Paintal plays Lata's father.
Talking about the different look in the show, Producer Vikas Seth of Swastik Pictures says, "Sidharth and me had thought of this concept quite sometime back. Now, let's hope we manage to break the clutter from kitchen politics. The look to the show is totally different as we have travelled to various places around the countryside for shooting. We don't have a fixed set as such."
'Amber..' also promises some other strong starcast like Viju Khote, Harshad Chopra, Shweta Gulati and Nasir.
"I play Anuj Mehra, who has a huge impact on the lives of these girls, especially Amber. As a talent hunter, I persuade Amber to come to Mumbai. However, what the sisters don't realise is that I'm going to exploit them to the fullest," says Nasir
Shweta Gulati plays a negative lead for the first time. "I play Sonia Jaiswal, the only daughter of Mr.Jaiswal, one of the richest and influential men of Panchgini. Sonia is a spoilt brat and simply hates Amber and Dhara. Right from childhood, these girls have always proved to be an obstacle in her life" said Shweta.
The channel did not reveal the identity of the conjoined twins.
