I see this show very rarely so whatever little I know - Ganga was staying in some village with her dad (seedha sadha poor temple singer), step mom (evil over acting), real brother (henpecked and dumb), her bhabhi (evil over acting) and a half sister (nice but more like a furniture that talks once in awhile).
Ganga had some "daag" or marks or whatever on her skin. Which is why no one would marry her. Step mom and bhabhi went on nagging her about this. Plus bhabhi whos from a better off family was pissed off that her husband had to contribute to the house. When she got pregnant she insisted going to her parents place as she didnt want her child to have whatever Ganga did. Same time Ganga's dad lost his job when she took water from some holy pot to revive him when he fainted.
The brother leaves with the wife. His in laws get some rishta for Ganga. Some goonda fellow with a creepy dad. Both father and son are lecherous. Her step mom threatens suicide if she doesnt accept the rishta, her brother says he aint coming home ever. Everybody forces her to accept the proposal. Finally she agrees inspite of her fathers protests.
Shiv the hero comes along. Figures out that the marriage was to the father lech and not baby lech. In all the melee that follows the Ganga's dad falls hits his head on something and dies. Shiv takes Ganga and runs away from there. Explains to her no point going back. Goondas give chase but they escape.
Shiv eventually brings Ganga to some place where he's from. Where this Mahant guy is like head of the area or whatever. Initially he seems like a nice guy living with a strict mommy, 2 widowed sister in laws (SILs), 1 old mad aunty. Mad Aunty keeps trying to warn Ganga about some evil thats going to befell her.
Now turns out this Mahant whos now all good and pious etc in the past was quite the philanderer. He had a thing for a dancer girl eons ago who looked like Ganga and he believes it was Ganga in her past life. He takes Ganga to all those places to remind her about the past and that how they are meant to be together. Ganga does recall being burnt at a temple (presumably thats how she died) and remembers being a dancer type. Meanwhile Mahant and his mom conspire to keep Shiv away from her and from all these revelations. They want that Mahant should marry Ganga - and remove some curse. Something about them being without waaris (hence widowed sister in laws.) Also one SIL keeps taunting the other SIL who's pining away for Mahant - pointing out how Mahant has a soft spot for Ganga. Shiv independently also finds some old paintings and some story about someone who looked just like Ganga.
Havent seen much lately.
