&TV's new crime show Agent Raghav-Crime Branch made its debut on Saturday Night. The show will be beamed every Saturday and Sunday at 9pm. The show features Sharad Kelkar as Agent Raghav - a psychiatrist with the crime branch.
When Agent Raghav's promo was aired, I had a doubt that show is inspired by the popular American television series The Mentalist. After watching the first episode, all my doubts were cleared. It is indeed inspired by The Mentalist in many ways but sadly doesn't match upto its standard.
Like Patrick Jane (played by Simon Baker), who works for California Bureau of Investigation, in The Mentalist, Agent Raghav too has a strong deduction powers on the basis of reading body language, stutter, stammer et al, but also has a witty, fun-loving and humorous side to him. Coincidentally, both the shows have a team of five members. Two women, out of which one is the boss and three men, including the protagonist. That the makers of Agent Raghav didn't bother to stretch their imagination is evident from the character of Vikram (played by Jason Tham). Remember Kimball Cho (played by Tim Kang) from The Mentalist?
he similarity ends here. While The Mentalist keeps you on the edge of your seat till the last and it is not easy to guess the culprit, the first episode of Agent Raghav was a damp squib. While the plot was interesting, the end was a disappointment with illogical reasoning. Also, the culprit was very conveniently the one who was least suspected. Just because he was the least suspected, we knew from the beginning he will be the one. Wow what a surprise!
Talking about Sharad Kelkar, he almost nails his act as Agent Raghav. He succeeds in giving his character a charm that makes him likeable. The way he observes people and the surrounding makes the character believable and awe-inspiring at the same time.
